1 Roe Fulkerson Lodge No. 299 F. &A.M From The East Greetings Brethren, As I reflect upon the year that has passed and the work that we have accomplished, I am so grateful that I was elected by the craft to be the Master of THIS Lodge of Freemasons. This year at Roe Fulkerson was filled with well attended and fun events from start to finish. We had our picnic at the beach, our steak fundraising dinner, our open meeting to thank peace officer s for their service and sacrifice, our open meeting for service awards and the analogy of the building of our lodge. Our work weekends used the monies raised to improve and beautify our Lodge, Thanksgiving dinner at the lodge that reinforced that we are all part of a larger family, a society of friends and Brothers. As we close this year we will visit the Masonic home and celebrate the holidays with our elderly Brothers and Sisters. The residents of the Masonic home remind us of the longevity of Masonry and we remind them of the renewal of Masonry through the infusion of new Masons. As Master, I am proud of the work of our Lodge as exemplified by the degree teams and the Masonic education led by dedicated catechism instructors, as well as some memorable education programs put on at our stated meetings. If you weren t there for Masonic what s my line, Masonry and the Star Spangled Banner, team Jeopardy, and Masonic etiquette presented in: you make the call you missed great fun and interesting Masonic information. This year we will have raised 14 new Master Masons. Our newest Masons have been involved in and worked hard at every function and every event that we have had this year. The greatest work of all this year was not the external things that I have listed here; but the internal things manifested and inculcated within our hearts as men and Masons while we performed these tasks. I ask you my Brothers, to continue to work towards the true promise of Freemasonry; of making good men better by giving freely of your time, treasure and talent so that the greatest Fraternity on Earth my continue its good work. 2 Advice to his Grandson On the development of good character- Dear Brethren, More from the East While you endeavor, by a good store of learning, to prepare yourself to become a useful and distinguished member of your country, you must remember that this can never be without uniting merit with your learning. Honesty, disinterestedness, and good nature are indispensable to procure the esteem and confidence of those with whom we live, and on whose esteem our happiness depends. Never suffer a thought to be harbored in your mind which you would not avow openly. When tempted to do anything in secret, ask yourself if you would do it in public. If you would not, be sure it is wrong. In little disputes with your companions, give way rather than insist on trifles: for their love and the approbation of others will be worth more to you than the trifle in dispute. Above all things, and at all times, practice yourself in good humor. This, of all human qualities, is the most amiable and endearing to society. Whenever you feel a warmth of temper rising, check it at once and suppress it, recollecting it will make you unhappy within your self and disliked by others. Nothing gives one person so great advantage over another as to remain always cool and unruffled under all circumstances. Think of these things, practice them, and you will be rewarded by the love and confidence of the world. Thomas Jefferson From the South Since publication of our last Trestleboard, on October 30 th. we passed to the degree of Fellow Craft, Brothers John Griffin, George Sijtsema and Juan Gutierrez. We congratulate you and look forward to raising you to the sublime degree of Master Mason on December 10 th. On November 12 th. we raised Brothers Michael Corcoran, Hilard Silver, Charles Riley, Jesse Taylor and Lon Weinberg to the sublime degree of Master Mason. Congratulations to all our advancing brothers. Our Thanksgiving dinner was once again a well attended function, where the true spirit of brotherly love and affection emanated from all corners of the Lodge. Special thanks go to W:. Mark Kuznitz, W:. Troy Porter, & W:. Wallace Fine for their hard work, and culinary expertise. The meal was excellent, and enjoyed by all. My thanks also to Brothers Taylor, Carpel and where s your father Davies; LouAnn and Victoria Burg for their many hours of help in the kitchen on Sunday morning; and to all those who helped that I haven t mentioned thank you Having just celebrated Thanksgiving we now look forward to the Holiday season. In Masonry it doesn t matter whence we come, so long as we have faith in a Higher Being. Ours is a beautiful universal principle of religion that permits us to shake hands and meet on the square with good men of all faiths, in essentially every country in the world. Robert G. Davis 33 0, secretary of the Scottish Rite Bodies in Guthrie, OK. summed up the Spirit of Masonry and Christmas as follows: The devout Israelite heeds our signs and lives in accordance with the sacred teachings of Freemasonry. The Christian knows he is a better man because he is a Freemason. The Hindu recognizes the universal language of the Craft and, speaking a different language, believing in an entirely different system of religion, and familiar with different laws, rises from a shrine in an Eastern pagoda to clasp hands with a Brother from the far West. The Moslem, turning his face toward Mecca in prayer or crossing over the desert sands, remembers the sacred obligations he has assumed as a Mason and performs to a Brother from a distant land the kindest acts of humanity. The pure and moral principles of our Fraternity inculcate charity to all mankind, a brotherhood without boundaries, a faith without sectarianism, a patriotism without party, a unity of hearts, universal, embracing a worldwide community of men. 6 Masonic Home Christmas Party Saturday December 12th Every year the 33rd Masonic district Masters and Wardens association raises money to buy gifts for the residents of the Masonic Home in St Petersburg. Those gifts are then presented to the residents at a Christmas party. Our Lodge members usually travel to St Petersburg on the 11th. We have a block of rooms reserved at the Comfort Inn where we also have a hospitality room set up. Reserve your room under the Broward Masons for a discounted rate.
