Published by Trinity Baptist Church Dying and Living! By Dr. Ryan Wilson He is risen! He is alive! That was and is the startling message of Easter! On Good Friday, Jesus was killed; but on Easter Sunday, Jesus is alive! It was once said that nothing is certain but death and taxes. Taxes are due in April. As we come to Easter, we are reminded that all of us will die; but we can approach death differently because of Jesus. Death and life are interrelated. When Christ enters our lives, we die to self. Jesus insisted that this first spiritual encounter with death is more important than our physical deaths, because it marks our entry into a kind of life and relationship over which death has no power. Eternal life isn t something that just begins when our days on earth are done. The Gospels tell us that both death and eternal life are present realities. Jesus said, Whoever hears my word and believes in the One who sent me has eternal life and has passed from death to life. In other words, through Christ we are already in touch with the eternal love of God and can experience a quality of life that transcends our mortality. Death is also something that we come to experience more than just at the end of our lives. We struggle with it and overcome it throughout the course of our lives. We are supposed to strive to die to sin and be raised to walk in the newness of life. As we die to sin and self, God is able to create something new in us. Old patterns of behavior and character die and are buried, and new patterns of life are born and granted by God. Death, where is thy sting grave, where is thy victory? You see, Christ is Risen; and as we come to have Christ more fully in our own lives, we discover that we don t have to be afraid of death, but rather, we can have life abundant and life eternal. Happy Easter and allow Christ to help you die and live well!

3 Rebecca Sires Children s Corner /edisto5@att.net Happy Spring! I love this time of the year. All the budding trees and blooming flowers are a wonderful reminder of the new life we have when we ask Jesus Christ to be our Lord and Savior. We have spent the past several weeks talking about our faith walk and the people in the Bible whom we model our lives by. The kids have been asking some very good questions, and I encourage you to talk about baptism at home. Feel free to call or me with any questions. siresfamily5@yahoo.com The RA s have been doing a great job with their recycling project on Sunday mornings. I am proud of them for taking on this task. Nic at Night Our kids and leaders have been working very hard getting ready for the spring musical. Performance dates are Saturday, April 28 at 7pm and Sunday, April 29 at 10:30 am. Preston Cooley Youth News Happy spring everyone! It is finally time for warmer weather (in theory) and time for Spring Break! Because of the holiday, we will not have youth activities the first two Sundays in April. Enjoy your week off and come prepared for a new Bible study with me and Mary Grace. Kelli and I will be taking Spring Break to go to see friends in Texas; so I won't be around that first week. I hope to get back and hear about all the exciting, or maybe relaxing, things the youth do over their break. Spring Break is a good indicator that summer is not too far away. As the youth push to get their finals done in the next couple of months, I plan to use Wednesday nights to help them use some spiritual practices that can be relaxing, such as quiet reflection, prayer, and breathing exercises. When they enter the youth room, I'll be collecting cell phones and encourage them to enter quietly as they use this time to escape the stress and anxiety that the last 9 weeks brings. Of course, we can't talk about the upcoming summer without going over some of the major events we have planned. Here are some important dates to remember: - Choir Tour will be June 8-13 in Washington, D.C. Sign-ups has begun, and space is limited. If you want to attend this trip, you MUST attend youth choir practices on Sundays at 5. We will have a meeting in May to go over cost, packing list, itinerary, etc. - June is Vacation Bible School at Trinity. This is always a great time for the youth to get involved in helping run this event. - Our Passport trip to Greensboro, NC, will be July Like with the Choir Tour, we will meet next month to go over the details of this trip.

4 Music, Missions, and More Rev. Tony Vincent Trinity on Mission All Over the World! This Spring, as we emerge from our winter hibernation, we are excited about all the ways that we have been active in our community through Trinity on Mission. Take a look at what s happened recently and what soon will be happening. Find your place in the telling of God s great love story! On Saturday, March 4, over 90 Trinity volunteers helped package 50,000 meals for people facing extreme hunger around the world. Bravo! Trinity folks baked over 200 dozen cookies for the Kairos Prison Ministry at McCormick Prison in the week of March inmates experienced a Discipleship weekend and all of the inmates were touched with your love and prayers. Trinity on Mission purchased dress shirts and ties for 10 students at Blue Ridge Elementary in their CAT Leadership Mentoring group. April is Trinity s month for Sabbath Soup Kitchen. Each Sunday, a Sunday School class or other group will prepare a meal and serve it at Our Daily Bread to provide a hot lunch for our community in need. On Wednesday, May 2, we will gather for our usual Wednesday night dinner, but then we ll celebrate the Project Ruth Marathon! For 26 years, Project Ruth has been changing lives in Bucharest, Romania, and Trinity has partnered with Project Ruth for the last 5 years. We ll do some fun churchwide events, culminating in a celebratory walk around our property to celebrate Project Ruth s 26-year marathon of love. Upcoming LLL Event for Seniors Thursday, April 19, 8:30 am We ll travel to Columbia for a guided tour of South Carolina s historic Governor s Mansion, followed by lunch in downtown Columbia. Space is limited to the first 30 signed up! Cost: Lunch. Summertime Singing! Through the summer our choir takes some time off from weekly rehearsals, and we try to sing more familiar and accessible anthems. With summer travel schedules, we frequently miss some of our regular singers, and we could use you to help us out! If you ve been thinking that you d like to be more involved with our music ministry, maybe summertime is the best time to give it a try! See me for information on our summer schedule! Annual Free Sale Doing some Spring cleaning Each year in April the Young Adult Sunday School Class collects clothes, furniture, and other household items that are gentlyused and offers them to our community free of charge during a Saturday morning Free Sale. Donations are accepted April and can be brought to the Fellowship Hall Entrance anytime during office hours on those days or from 5-7 pm on April For more information or for assistance in donating, contact David Howle ( ) or someone from the Young Adult Class. The Free Sale give-away will be Saturday, April 14 from 7am-noon.
