1 The Ohio Bulletin Country The Ohio Society of the Sons of the American Revolution Spring 2012 Newsletter Message From The President I would like to invite you to the Annual Meeting in Lima, OH (see page 7). Please join members throughout the State for an enjoyable dinner with NSSAR Secretary General, Stephen A. Leishman. The SG will share with us the past, present and the bright future of the SAR. Also, meet the student winners at the State level of the Youth Contests: D.G. High Oration, Knight Essay, Eagle Scout, and JROTC. Charles Edwards will be presenting the 2012 Hub Scott Award to a very deserving compatriot, who has given his service to OHSSAR and promoted their high ideals. OHSSAR officers will be installed on Sunday morning, after the Church Service, and I hope you will make yourself available to them during the coming year. Future events at which I will be participating will be the CAR Annual Meeting in Dublin and the DAR Annual Meeting in Columbus. Some of our Chapters have a wonderful relationship with these groups. It is beneficial at the Chapter level to take the time to have a joint meeting with these groups. We all can work with each other to accomplish great things in our ancestors memory. This July, the NSSAR Congress will be in Phoenix Arizona. It is sure to be exciting time, in a different Climate and Scenery. Please sign up for your credentials, if you wish to be a delegate (See page 3). I do hope that you will take the time to visit the library when you are in Louisville. It is directly across from the Louisville Slugger Museum. As I look back on my year as OHSSAR President, I think of what a worthwhile time it has been! I have really enjoyed visiting the many Chapters in Ohio and seeing the vital programs that they offer their members. In addition, there were many picnics, parades, George Washington Birthday Celebrations, grave markings, naturalization ceremonies, and meetings throughout the state. I had a wonderful time at each of the Chapters that I visited as vice president and president. I have made new friends and enjoyed working with all of you. Ohio is a great state with dedicated members of whom I am very proud. I look forward to continuing my visiting and keeping in touch with the OHSSAR s membership. This would be an impossible under taking without the support of the OHSSAR Officers, Committee Members, Guardsmen, and Compatriots for their dedicated work, as well as the Chapter officers and members for their kind hospitality during Cindy s and my visits. I hope you will join me in giving your undivided support for incoming President Steven Kelley as he takes the leadership of the Ohio Society. 6 Ohio Ladies Auxiliary Update Greetings to all our friends in Ohio! Welcome New Compatriots I m sure that you are enjoying this mild winter, as we are. Even the B.O.M. in Bryan was tame; although we awoke to a couple of inches of snow on Saturday morning. There were six women there to tour the museum in Montpelier. Afterward, we enjoyed a nice luncheon of soup and sandwiches with the men. Our speaker was a very special 90-yr-old World War II veteran, named Feroen Betts. He talked of his experience over in Leningrad, where they helped get supplies to the Russians. Everyone was moved by his testimony. Two weeks later, Jim and I attended four banquets celebrating George Washington s birthday: the George Rogers Clark, Benjamin Franklin, Western Reserve, and the Richard Montgomery Societies. During two of these, we were privileged to hear Larry and LeeAnn Cornwall, as they portrayed General and Mrs. Richard Montgomery. Please don t forget to set your calendars for our State Conference in Lima, Ohio on May 4-6th. Ladies please bring your dues. Val is still collecting items for the solders packages. Val requests that you bring one item for the Ohio basket at National Congress As Jim and I end our year of service, we again want to Thank you for the memories.
