We have accomplished much this year, worked hard, and had fun doing it. While I am sad to see Lauren s year come to a conclusion, I am looking forward to working with Leah and the new officers. NATIONAL CONVENTION The 2017 National Convention is April and will again be held at the Renaissance Arlington Capital View Hotel, 2800 South Potomac Avenue, Arlington, VA The C.A.R. Room Block for the 2017 National Convention is Open! The Renaissance Arlington Capital View Hotel is accepting reservations for the 2017 National Convention. Our group rate of $154 plus taxes is available from 4/19/17 to 4/23/17. To make a reservation, you may use the reservation link below or call the reservations center at , asking for the Children of the American Revolution National Convention. The reservations cut-off date is 5:00 p.m. on March 29, 2017, or until our contracted room block is sold out, whichever comes first. To avoid disappointment, we urge you to make your reservation as early as practical. Two Marylanders are running for national office. Please come out and support them. Also, the registration fees for the members will be reimbursed by Maryland CAR if you turn in your registration form to Dave Schenck at the conference. Also join us Sunday on the grounds of Mt. 3 MARYLAND STATE CONFERENCE This year we celebrated Heroes for Heroes as we listened to Freedom s Thunder and accomplished so much at the conference, renewing friendships, visiting Benjamin Banneker Park and Museum and look forward to seeing you at National Conference in April. Some photos are shown elsewhere in this newsletter but more can be viewed for free at: By Law Changes Recording Secretary Kayleigh Gott and Sr. Recording Secretary Jenna Wood, report that the following Bylaws changes were approved at State Conference: Article IV - Dues and Fees Changed Section 2: The annual fee for all Senior State Officers and Senior State Chairmen shall be five dollars ($5.00) and shall be sent to the Senior State Treasurer on or before February 1st. Article VI- Appointments and Elections Changed Section 4: The Senior State First Vice President and the Senior State Second Vice President shall be appointed by the Senior State President for a term of two years to be concurrent with that of the Senior State President. They shall be from the membership of the Maryland Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, or the Maryland Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, or the Maryland Society of the Sons of the Revolution. Section 5: The other Senior State Officers shall include the Senior State Chaplain, Senior State Recording Secretary, Senior State Organizing Secretary, Senior State Corresponding Secretary, Senior State Treasurer, Senior State Registrar, Senior State Historian and Senior State Librarian-Curator, and shall be appointed by the Senior State President for a term of two years to be concurrent with that of the Senior State President. Article VII- Duties of Officers Added Part A- Duties of State Officers Section 13: In addition to specific duties included in these Bylaws, all officers will perform other duties as requested by his/her corresponding Senior Officer and such duties applicable to his/her respective office as prescribed by the parliamentary authority adopted by the State Society. Part B- Duties of Senior State Officers Section 12: In addition to specific duties included in these Bylaws, each Senior Officer will assist his/her corresponding member as needed and perform such other duties applicable to his/her respective office as prescribed by the parliamentary authority adopted by the State Society. 4 The Meeting began with the State Presidents and National Presidents entering the room Saturday morning with a parade of officers following suit and the local ROTC Unit led the pledge. Reports were given by numerous officers of all ages and heights. The Conference highlights the great work being done around the state, election of new officers, and some fun moments for all to enjoy. 5 Benjamin Banneker Park and Museum Saturday included a visit to the Benjamin Banneker Park and Museum to learn about Banneker, taste maple syrup, learn about nature, etc. The evening banquet was well attended with everyone appearing in formal wear to enjoy the awards portion and installation of our newest officers. 6 Thanks to the outgoing Officers and welcome to the incoming New Officers The State Society raised over $10,000 for the Hero Dogs Inc. Project and the Director attended in person to receive the check. Past MD State President, National President and Sr. National President Ms. Jane Wells Freeney Keegan, donated volumes of photo albums and memorabilia to be kept in the Maryland records.
