We have starting the Pennsic packing process, so we will keep this missive short. We hope to see many of you there enjoying your vacation and supporting the Kingdom, Their Majesties, and the Heirs. Don t forget to take a class or two while you are there. We look forward to jumping into Boar s Head planning when we return. Please join us next month at Brandybrook Manor for our Baronial Championship. We will be holding Court, so look around and reflect on the good works of your fellow Barony members and get your award recommendations in as soon as possible. I want to thank Her Excellency for the photos from her trip to Ireland (in this month s Medieval Treasure s section) and Signora Beatrice for her award recommendations article. I hope this is the beginning of a trend. I know a bunch of you are holding out. I ve seen your Facebook posts about projects you re working on and photos from your trips aboard and to museum. Share them with the rest of us. If there is something you would like to see in the Song of the Tower, please let me know and I will work to get it in. Both items were registered on the May 2017 Letter of Acceptances and Returns, which was released on July 8th. If you are interested in registering your name or armory, please feel free to contact me! In Service, Beatrice Yes, you too can write a letter of recommendation! Beatrice Domenici della Campana We never get recognized in this area! The Royals don't care about what we're doing down (up) here! So-and-so should have been recognized years ago for all that they do! If you have ever heard (or uttered, or thought) those statements, know that You and only YOU can do something about that particular problem. Yes, this means you, no matter if you have no awards, just received your AoA, or are a long-time Royal Peer. In almost every case, the only way that the Royalty can know who has done what service/art/combat is if you tell them. They cannot be everywhere and see everything Themselves. Telling Them means writing letters of recommendation. I have never heard of a Royal who asked for fewer letters, or for people to stop sending so many. I have heard of many, however, who literally begged for more letters. Giving out goodies (awards and recognitions) is, for many Royals, the best part of the job. The only way that the Royals can do that job effectively and well is with lots of letters from the populace. Take a few minutes at an event, or practice, or meeting, or any place where you see people doing the awesome things that they do. Consider who you think has what recognitions and awards. Then check. The Order of Precedence (the official list of every award given within Northshield or to a Northshield resident) is online, and there's a Persona Search right on the Northshield home page (click the second tab right under the officer badges). If they don't have an award you think they already do, that's a good sign that you should write to the Crown. There are some wonderful handbooks and guides on how to write a letter of recommendation, and these can be found in many locations. Here's my taken on the matter (using the Northshield form, which can be found (only when you are logged in) ): First, make sure your contact information and profile on the North shield website are up to date. This makes sure if the Royals have any questions, They can contact you (this won't happen often, but it's courteous to make sure They could if They needed to). The first page of the form asks for information about the person you are recommending. You will first have to find their profile on the Northshield page, or check the box if you're certain they do not have a profile (you've already checked, right? when you looked up to see what awards they already have). Then put in any information that you have about that person's persona (time period, country of origin, etc.). As it says, please include some indication of the gentle's gender, as many names are not clearly male or female. The second page of the form asks for information about the award for which you are recommending this person. There's a big long list of awards (every one that Northshield gives), and then a box. Choose an award of which you believe the person is deserving. Use the box to wax eloquent about all the awesome things you've seen this person do. This should be specific and detailed. You want to show rather than tell the Royals how awesome this person is. Rather than saying they're awesome about service you want to say this gentle has served as head of gate for the last three events in our shire, is just finishing the third year of their second term as shire archery marshal, and is a regular host for the monthly shire clothing guild.

4 The third page of the form asks you to select events that you believe the person will be attending. You can take this from their profile (which you checked, right?), or from personal knowledge. You must select at least one event, so Their Majesties know at what event to plan for the award should They choose to give it. Giving awards when people are not present isn't nearly as much fun for the Royals or the recipients. The fourth screen lets you review what you've already said. Take a look. Make sure you've made all the points you wanted to make and included all the events that you think this person will be attending. Then click Finish. The form will send the information off to the Royals, and will take you back to the start so you can do it again (you did have someone else in mind to recommend, right??). From the Thrown Weapons Marshal Greetings, We have new throwing axes and knives! The range equipment is ready. I plan on having practice at the No Fee Thursday practice on August 17 th, in the large side yard. I m willing to have additional practices on Thursdays and Mondays, if there is interest. Please let me know. If Their Excellencies are willing, I will also set-up TW at Baronial Champions. In Service, Arnbjørn From the Rapier Captain Rapier is still continuing. I'm debating doing a few outdoor "summer" practices in the park, but that's unconfirmed. I will not be going to Pensic so practices will continue in August.
