From the Seneschal Happy Yule unto the Shire of Rosenfeld! Soon, we will be in the midst of celebrating another Yule Season at our Winter Revel scheduled for December 10, 2011 at the Fellowship Hall of Pleasant Retreat UMC in Tyler. Scheduled activities include Redacting/Period Recipe Review (Mistress Rhiannon), Silk Fan Painting (Lady Sarah), Banner Painting, and Feast/ Potluck- bring your favorite side dish. Dancing will take place after Feast with Bardcraft during Feast. Please watch the List for additional information! At our last meeting, we discussed our participation and assistance to the Phoenix Charter School in Greenville, Texas. I am happy to say there was overwhelming support from Rosenfeld. I have communicated with LaNell Brown, a Volunteer for the school (and my initial contact) and Chrissy Dickens, the PCS Board President, of our desire to be involved. This will be an on-going project which will give each one of us the opportunity to be in on the ground-up planning of the school s goal to turn their campus into a kingdom. They will need guidance as well as volunteers to assist them with their transition. I will relay information as it becomes available. His Excellency, Tostig, has already volunteered to assist them with Heraldic matters. I would like a volunteer to coordinate project-oriented things like helping with garb and someone to coordinate classes. If you are interested in either of these roles, please let me know. We also discussed transitioning Three Kings into a 10-Man Team event. To date, I have received word from one individual interested in being the event steward. If anyone else has interest, please me letting me know of your interest and, in general, what you will bring to the event. As the event steward is a Deputy Seneschal, please include your proof of membership and copy of your drivers license. If you are organized, love to communicate, can manage a team of individuals, and have a desire to serve, this is the role for you! Just a reminder I invite those interested in serving as the next Seneschal of Rosenfeld to submit an application, a copy of your membership card as well as your driver s license to me and Baroness Alys (Central Region Seneschal). The office will transition at the next King s Round Table in January. Please feel free to see me if you have any questions regarding the office. Safe journeys to those traveling this Yule Season! Peace and Blessings to All! Julia
From the Exchequer Greetings, The Treasurer's office is humming right along. Three King's 2011 was a success, and while there was not a lot of profit, there was a still a profit. I will have an exact number at the December meeting being held at our Yule Revel on December 10. In service, Sarah From the Minister of Arts & Sciences Good Rosenfeld, We are all proud of the success of our event Tournament of the Cross and have enjoyed the accolades of peers throughout all of Ansteorra. It was, I believe, better than our expectations with so much to see and share with our Society. Of note in particular is the re installation of Rosenfeld Champion in both Static and Performance Arts. We are pleased to be represented by Honorable Lord Kieron McBride as our Bardic Champion who did say of Rosenfeld I have been meaning to visit for several years wish now it had been sooner as you have the best people and I have enjoyed myself so much. HL Kieron performed an original ballad 10,000 brilliantly and played a period instrument much like a present day small banjo Courbus-do pardon my spelling as it is certain to be incorrect. Never the less the entertainment of all of the bards was spectacular. Our A&S Champion Honorable Lady Delphina de Champeaux did tear up at the beauty of the Champion Baldric as it was presented to her in court. Her A&S entries were of bobbin lace-many beautiful styles and uses even one with gold woven into the pattern. There were several excellent entries from younger Lords in the A&S competition lending to the suggestion of possibly having a young gentles competition as part of next year s event. An enormous thank-you is due HL Carletta for the gift baskets and all of those who contributed to them, for all her work on the Cloak and the Baldric- and to all who also
helped make them so Champion worthy. Gratitude is owed also to all of Rosenfeld for the hard work and giving their all to assure 3 Kings was fun and ran smoothly. I am sure we are now all looking forward to our own celebration of Winter Revel (December 10 at Pleasant Retreat Church in Tyler) and the awesome competitions to be savored. I am, I admit, daunted at the challenge to decipher the unredacted period recipes for Mistress Rhiannon s cooking activity but excited to learn and experience the flavors of others labors. We have heard of those interested in making banners as an A&S activity and recently a suggestion that we make a cook book with illumination and period recipes. I shall organize those and hope that each of you send ideas to me for other ventures which intrigue you. Whatever we do we shall relish being in the best of company. Anon, Lady Emma Farewyll, Rosenfeld MoAS emmafairwyll@gmail.com From the Rapier Marshal As I write this I am preparing for Thanksgiving and our Yule Revel. The holiday season is upon us and as soon as it winds down we will be looking at preparing for Gulf War and the spring fighting season. This is a great time to be working on your kit and cleaning your blades. See you at practice. Be safe and have fun Rhiannon
From the Event Stewards for Three Kings Rosenfeld! Please accept my most humble gratitude for all your assistance with Three Kings- Tournament of the Cross. It was great fun as usual. Without all of you, there would be no event. Your hard work and dedication are what make it great. As thoughts turn to next year the new format requires a new name. I am offering a prize (probably a painted banner of your device) for the good gentle who comes up with the winning name. There have been several submitted, all good, so keep thinking and throwing them into the ring. In humble service, Sarah Recipe of the Month By Mistress Rhiannon Shepherd s Pie For the Populace meeting I did everything in a crock pot; however I much prefer making this dish in a Dutch oven so that the potatoes on top get nice and brown. 1 to 2 lb stew meat (pork and venison both work well) 2 medium onions 1 whole clove of garlic 1 lb carrots 3 medium turnips 1/2 lb green beans Salt Pepper Basil Oregeno
Dice onions and garlic and put in the crock pot. Layer in meat, sliced carrots, and diced turnips and snapped green beans. Season to taste. Cover and cook for 6 to 8 hours. Stir periodically to ensure cooking. At least 1 hour before serving mash 4 to 6 medium potatoes and cover top of dish with potatoes. Cover and continue to heat on high. To cook in a Dutch oven follow the same instructions and cook for about 2 hours.
Come join us as we travel down the Silk Road for Rosenfeld s Yule Revel December 10, 2011 Hall opens at 1:00 p.m. Schedule 2:00 Redacting and period recipe review - in the kitchen, If you want to play let Rhiannon know so she can give you an unredacted recipe. Everyone is welcome to come and taste the experiments. 3:00 Silk fan painting (probably in the gym) there will be a small fee to cover supplies Lady Sarah will be presenting the activity. 4:00 Work on the big Rose banner. 6:00 Food (potluck) Ham and Turkey are taken care of. Dancing and bardcraft just think of the wealth of material available to you. Rumor has it that there may be a gaming table available. Announced competitions are a costume contest (sponsored by Lady Sarah) and a table decorating competition (Lord Aidan). We would love to see people sharing their arts. Bring your art something you are proud of this is not a competition and share your talents: Rosenfeld is filled with talented people it would be great to see everyone showing off their skills at all levels. Finally, we would like to challenge everyone to bring a friend to the Revel and introduce them to the SCA. We need to grow and the best way is to encourage others to come out and join us. Julia and Rhiannon
