30 ANNOUNCING A SIGNIFICANT COLLECTION ^FACSIMILE REPRINTS of BOOKS and PAMPHLETS by NEGRO AUTHORS It is not generally known that the collections of the Historical Society of Pennsylvania and of the Library Company of Philadelphia contain some of the best source materials in manuscript and printed form on Africa and Afro-Americana. For decades both institutions have been encouraging its use. Reprints of forty-six rare and uncommon items from these libraries (in some instances only one or two copies of the originals have been located) are now available. Reproduced on acid-free paper in convenient format, they are designed to meet the needs of students, scholars, and lay readers. Poetry, drama, slave narratives, documents of the first black religious societies and rare convention proceedings comprise the first series of reproductions. All of the items have been specially selected and contain biographical and bibliographical notes and introductions.
