1 Redeemer Christian Reformed Church Newsletter, Sunday December 9, 2018 Our Church Family REDEEMER CRC: On behalf of the R family, I would like to thank you for the many wishes of strength and love we have experienced during and after John's illness. Your cards, phone calls, food, flowers, hugs and best wishes were very much appreciated. John would have been overwhelmed by your thoughtfulness, mirroring Christ. God bless you all. ~Lainey R FIRST CRC: We extend our condolences to Wilma H and her family on the death of Lloyd this past Sunday. Lloyd was a brother-in-law to Grace and Fred V and Floyd and Judy Vl. The funeral was held on Friday. May God s comfort and love surround you during this time of mourning. Dennis and Nancy D praise God for the safe delivery of a healthy grandson, Mason Everett D, a son to Kailey and Craig. Next Week s Message AM: Next Sunday Peter B, classical exhorter from Maranatha CRC in Woodstock, ON will be our guest. He will be bringing us a message titled, "A Shepherd's Christmas" based on Luke 2:8-20. The shepherds tending to the sheep and being one of the first visitors to meet the Christ, knew EXACTLY what was meant when they saw the Lamb who was to take away their sin and the sins of the world. NEXT WEEK'S OFFERING: Bluewater Growing Project General Announcements CHRISTMAS DINNER: Today is the day for our Christmas Dinner. Doors will open at 4.30 pm for appetizers and the dinner will start at 5.00 pm. Looking forward to seeing you there for an evening of celebration, fellowship and good food. Also would greatly appreciate help for set up after church and cleanup after the dinner. CHRISTMAS BOTERKOK: Joanne S is taking orders for boterkok at a cost of $6.75 each. Proceeds to God's Littlest Angels. Please place your order no later than December 22. THANK YOU: I would like to thank all those who have donated knitted items for our outreach project, in partnership with St. Michael s Parish, to the northern Ontario First Nations community of Pikangikum. I have been informed that this was the last year a shipment would be sent to this community. Thank you again for your participation in this endeavour over the last number of years. CHRISTMAS SERVICES IN DECEMBER: The following is a list of the various services that the three Christian Reformed Churches in Sarnia will be holding during this Christmas season: Dec. 24: Christmas Eve service Living Hope CRC Christmas Day services Redeemer CRC, and First CRC HIGHLIGHTS OF EXECUTIVE COUNCIL MEETING HELD DECEMBER 4: 1. Executive Council offered Cindy B the Office Administrator/Bookkeeper contract which she accepted. Training has begun with the transition taking place over the next month. Employee Performance Review was received for the Office Administrator. 2. By consensus it was decided to approve Jennie D as the Treasurer for a one year term. This will allow for a smooth transition and for mentoring to take place. 3. Delegates to a special Classis Chatham meeting taking place on December 11 at Strathroy East CRC are Corene H and Diana W (see below for details of the meeting). 4. The Office Administrator has been instructed to update the old vision and mission statements where printed/posted when easily able to do so. Other changes will be made at a later date (i.e. outdoor signage, banner in the church, logo, etc.). 5. Dwayne V was present to give an overview of the insurance that currently covers Redeemer CRC. He answered some questions about Safe Church and Facilities Rental Policies. 6. By consensus it was decided that the Facilities Rental Policy will be developed by the executive. Once approved it will be managed by the Office Administrator. 7. Church visitors will be invited to the January Full Council meeting. 1
2 SPECIAL (CONTRACTA) MEETING OF CLASSIS CHATHAM 7:30 P.M., TUESDAY, DECEMBER 11, 2018, AT EAST STRATHROY CRC: The purpose of this meeting is to consider and endorse a recommendation from the LCM, that classis approve the work of the Fanshawe Chaplain Search Committee. The Search Committee and the LCM Board is recommending the approval of Helena A to become the new Chaplain at Fanshawe College, with a start date of January 7, Hence, at this meeting we will introduce Helena to classis, have a conversation with her, and consider the recommendation.the grounds for this special meeting of classis is that the proposed start date of January 7, 2019 aligns with the college's Winter Term, giving Helena exposure to the college and students for the full semester. If approval is delayed to our regular meeting in February, much of the semester will be lost (without a chaplain). As this meeting is called for a specific purpose and is a 'contracta' meeting, there is only the one item of business on the agenda. Although a quorum (half of the churches of classis plus one) is required, we hope that as many delegates attend as possible from all of our churches. ORNAMENTS: If members of our congregation would like to have some of the Christmas tree ornaments that the Ladies Aux made many years ago, please come to the great room after the service today. YOUTH CHRISTMAS BAGS: We have an opportunity to show our college and university students how important they are to us here at Redeemer. You can help by placing a card, note, or small item (candy, toothbrush, pens, gum etc.) in the bag which is available above the mailboxes. Thank you for your participation (there are 10 bags in total). Community Announcements REV.DIRK M RETIRES: Aylmer Christian Reformed Church ON Canada congratulates Rev.
