All children are invited to come forward for a Children s Time in our service. Then, following a prayer, they will leave us to attend Sunday School. There are activities for children on the table at the east entrance, to your right when seated in the sanctuary. Our Greeters today are Milt and Arlene MacLean (West Door) and Lynne McCulloch (East Door), the Welcome Associates are Laura Bucenieks and Miles Ross, and the Tellers are Dora Lane and Ken Lloyd. The flowers in the Sanctuary this morning are in loving memory of Elizabeth Raza who passed away November 27, " Always in our thoughts, forever in our Hearts", - James, Arooj, and Sheryl.. Coming Events 1. Friendship Group: Tuesday, November 28, 10.30am for fellowship, lunch at 12 noon sharp. After Lunch Speaker: Carolyn Whiskin, well known as a speaker, Carolyn is a Pharmacist at Brant Arts Dispensary in Burlington as well as in Hamilton. Her topic: Being an Advocate for Your Health - from Vaccination to Compounding. All are welcome. Friday, December 1: Journeying with Joseph: Join us in the Sanctuary, 10.30am, for an Advent Devotional Series. This first week the theme is Joseph the Carpenter. 7. Friday, December 1: Community Dinner 6.00pm at Wellington Square United Church, a free event every Friday and everyone is welcome. Please contact the Church Office for more information. 8. Friday, December 1: Sanctuary Decoration from 7.00pm. If you can help, please contact David Morikawa, or speak to any of the Deacons. 9. Saturday, December 2: Church Family Dinner. The program begins at 5:30pm, with dinner to follow shortly after 6:00pm. Come at 5:00 pm to costume if participating in the Impromptu Nativity. Tickets are available in the foyer this morning. Adults are $10. Maximum family cost is $25. A family is all those people who live under the same roof, and includes university students. 10. Sunday, December 3: The 52 nd Annual Santa Claus Parade 2.00pm 4.30pm. Parade route: Guelph Line from Fairview South to New St; New St. from Guelph Line to Martha St; James St. from Martha to Brant St; Brant from Elgin St. North to Baldwin/Victoria. 3 Please Note Advance Notice: Book and Bake Sale 2018 In the spring again next year (Apr 26 April 28, 2018), the Learning and Spiritual Growth Team will hold a book and bake sale to raise funds for the library and other programs of the Team. As you sort through your personal library, the Team is happy to take all your discards. Beginning in the New Year, books of any genre, magazines (not more than 3 years old), CDs, DVDs, VHS tapes may be brought to the church and left in the library or in the bottom of the library cart, marked for book sale. No multivolume sets of books, please, as they are not marketable. The sale has been very successful each year it has been offered (both books and baking) and it is hoped that that success can be repeated again this year. At BBC, the supply of prayer shawls is at an all-time low and now is the time that more should be made. Prayer shawls can be made by knitting (or crocheting). During the time of creation, the intention of the knitter is to infuse healing and good thoughts of health and healing into the shawl. Shawls wrap, comfort, cover, give solace, hugs, shelter and beauty. Thousands of stitches, and love in each stitch. On receiving a shawl, one may feel affirmed and uplifted, may forget one s troubles for a time and can feel good health and good spirits. The pattern can be simple and a great project to complete prior to Christmas - the time of giving. During a worship service, the shawls will be blessed prior to giving them out. At times, we all need a tangible reminder of God's presence in our lives, and we are blessed by providing these shawls to people so they can see and feel the warmth of God's embrace. 5 On our way to Bethlehem Journeying with Joseph: an Advent Devotional Series led by Rev. Dave Ogilvie. Join us in the Sanctuary of Burlington Baptist Church on four Friday mornings, beginning on December 1, at 10:30 a.m. for fellowship, reflection, singing and prayer. Come prepare for the season by considering the Christmas story through the experience of Jesus father, Joseph. 6 Women from Burlington Ubuntu Grandwomen and Canadian Federation of University Women Burlington are working together to raise awareness of the Orange Campaign, a global endeavour to end the violence against women. From November 25 to December 19, Human Rights Day, are 16 days of Activism against gender-based violence. The aim is to raise public awareness and to mobilize people globally to bring about change. This year, the UN Secretary-General s UNiTE to End Violence against Women Campaign invites governments, UN agencies, civil society organizations, local organizations and individuals to Orange the World, using the colour designated by the UNiTE campaign to symbolize a brighter future without violence. This year s theme is Leave No One Behind: End Violence Against Women and Girls. Burlington Ubuntu Grandwomen and the Canadian Federation of University Women Burlington are proud that our city of Burlington has agreed to light up City Hall walkway in Orange to shine a light on the important issue, and to stand with communities all over the world. Both groups wish to express their thanks to Mayor Rick Goldring and Karina Gould MP for their support. December 4 th women and families of the two groups will hold a candlelight vigil at 5:00 pm in front of City Hall. All are invited to join the vigil.
