The Moms' Compass Group is collecting gently used handbags and sample size beauty products (soaps, lotions, cosmetics, etc. -- things that make a mom feel pretty). These items will be put together as gifts for the children of Flemingdon Park to give to their moms for Mother's Day. Please drop your donations in the bin in the foyer. We will also gladly accept financial donations to this project. Cheques can be dropped off in the office and should be made payable to "St. John's York Mills" with "Mother's Day Outreach" on the memo line. If you have any questions, please contact Robin Bickley. 6 Easter Dinner at Drew and Carolyn s home - Sunday, April 8 at 6:30 p.m. following the 5:00 p.m. Gathering Service. Not everyone in our parish has family in Toronto with whom they can share a meal. If you would like to share Easter dinner with us and your St. John s family, we invite you to our home at 91 Haddington Avenue. If you are able, please bring your favourite appetizer, main course, salad or dessert and anything you would enjoy having to drink. We would appreciate it if you would please remember not to put nuts in any dish. RSVP to lgrasley@sjym.ca. or no later than Tuesday, April 3rd. Drew and Carolyn Church School Registration for September 2012 has begun. Children will receive registration forms from their teacher and in addition, forms are available in the foyer or from Jan. Forms are to be completed for all children from birth to 13 years of age as of September 1, Parents are to return the forms to their child s teacher or Church Office by April 1st. Early registration will assist the Church School Committee in planning for the fall. The Gathering: Sundays at 5:00 p.m. Informal Worship, Coffee & Conversation This is a free-flowing contemporary worship experience designed to explore the Christian faith in a relaxed and thoughtful atmosphere. Music is provided by Infinitely More as the core of our worship band. Come as you are and come a little early to grab a coffee and snack before the service begins. This is a great event to invite people to, so if you like what you hear in the sermon this morning, bring someone to The Gathering tonight. Music will include: No other Name; Spirit of the Living God; and They ll Know We are Christians by our Love. The Sermon title is: A Matter of Conscience. Communion will be celebrated April 8th

7 Finding God in Everyday Life Part 2 During Lent I offered you the invitation to find God in your everyday life by doing an examen each day a review of your day so you are growingly aware of the presence of God as you move through your daily activities. You ll find it in the past bulletins on our website Historically Lent has become a time of self-examination and prayer where we are encouraged to let go of things that get in the way of our awareness of God s presence and movement in our life. In our readings, mid-way through Lent we watch as Jesus clears out the temple. He tips over the everyday bits of life that have infiltrated into their worship space. In your reflection time, notice if there are things or people that infiltrate into your worship space. Perhaps there are ideas or situations that re-appear and that draw you away from being aware of goodness, kindness, gentleness and love. These re-appearances are known as attachments. Lent is an excellent time to become aware of our common attachments and ask Jesus to take care of them for us. Comments or questions? Anne+ acrosthwait@sjym.ca. Making the Christ Connection between school, home and church is often difficult for children. What does church have to do with school and how do children begin to connect the dots between their different worlds? Using the think-aloud process, this particular teaching method focuses on building children's ability to make connections between the Two Great Commandments, Fruits of the Spirit and stories that children encounter in everyday life. By challenging children to ask what is Jesus doing in this story? they will learn to make the connection between the Biblical and secular in their lives. This easy strategy can be incorporated into any existing Church School program and uses storytelling to uplift spiritual formation. Come prepared to collaborate with fellow educators, share your favourite Bible stories and picture books that connect to the Fruits of the Spirit and the character traits used by school districts in this workshop that will equip you with the tools necessary to have two full years of curriculum ready to teach! Join presenter Wanda Costinak on April 21st 9-3 for a day of building your curriculum and 'Making the Christ Connection!' Registration cost is $25 and includes a light lunch.
