President s Message John Neverdahl (incoming president ) Where does the time go? I joined Trollheim Lodge in 1989 and during this time I have had the privilege of serving as Vice-President; as Foundation Director, raising money to support our Trollheim scholarship program; chaired numerous silent auctions for Trollheim Lodge; and was the Entertainment Chair and Silent Auction Chair for the very successful 2002 District 6 Convention held at the Westin Hotel in Westminster. Ken Perley has done a wonderful job as President, and I look forward to working with him during his time as Counselor for There are numerous classes available to you, and hopefully your plans for 2015 include learning something new either about Norway in general or focusing on a specific new skill. Make new friends that have some of the same interests as you do, and have some fun. We all like challenges let s set a goal of increasing our membership by 10%. Please pick up some of our beautiful new lodge brochures and share them with people that show an interest in our lodge, and remind your friends and family that the lodge can be rented for their special personal events. Tell them about all of the different events we have planned for enjoyment this year. Invite a friend to be your guest and give them a tour of our lodge and meet some of our current members. They will want to join us! Please contact me with your good ideas and suggestions. Fraternally, John Michael Neverdahl cjneverdahl865@hotmail.com Loki is getting the lutefisk ready! th! January 17 1 th General Meeting January 19, 2015; 7 pm Potluck Please join us at our next general meeting when we will be holding the inauguration of officers. This is a good chance to meet your officers who were recently elected. Names are listed on page 10. Also a program on the Bunad, the folk costume of Norway is scheduled. John is the son of Elva Pederson a long time member of Trollheim Lodge and now living in California with her daughter, Pam. John s father, Clifford and his brother, Richard, preceded him in death. Bless you Elva and John s children and grandchildren on your loss. We wish to extend a thank you to the Perley s for their dedication to Trollheim for the past two years. Also the kitchen crew and servers for each event we held during The past year, we have traveled many miles from kitchen to dining room, and you understand this was just a practice run. 4 FamilyJul Party Wrap-Up December 20, 2014 The 2014 Family Jul Party was a big success last month! Trollheim Lodge hosted the largest Jul party in many years with over 60 guests. Children were busy between 10am to noon at the craft tables, with help from their parents or grandparents and other adults who attended. Beading, gluing, painting, glittering, and coloring activities resulted in name tags, necklaces, bracelets, pictures and ornaments galore. For those who needed extra energy, waffles with berries and whipped cream were available-yummy! Also, each curious child was able to roll out his/her own lefse and grill it under the tutelage of Bev King, a virtual pillar of patience with the children. Of course, butter and sugar/cinnamon mixture was provided. At Noon, cleanup of all the activity supplies was in order to make room for lunch. A large table was set with a host of sandwich makings, for each guest to make their own sandwich. Assorted salads accompanied the sandwiches. Lumpa dogs (hot dogs with a thicker lefse wrapped around them) were also available. After lunch, we were presented with a story by. Carolyn Perley who read the book, Gnorman, the Norwegian Gnome with the assistance from her granddaughter. Charles Knutson and members of the Trollheim Choir led the singing of Christmas songs, and children were invited to parade around the tree. Near the end of the festivities, our own Trollheim Jul Nisse arrived, making a grand entrance with his white beard, leaping around the room before he sat down by the Christmas tree and spoke to all the children present. And then, of course, he passed out presents. The joy on the faces was a sight to see! Thank you, Diane Molter and Jacquie and Jim Bland for organizing this party. Thanks also to Bev King who patiently taught the young ones about lefse, Donna Robinson who made the waffles and Louise Bath and all the other people who helped in the kitchen and with the activities in the hall. Perry Monkelien did a wonderful job with the Christmas decorations this year. And Charles Knutson and the Trollheim Choir got everyone in the spirit with song! Tusen takk to all the other helpers who made this party grand! 4

6 News and Events Trollheim members cleaned 14 th Ave. and our yard 6 times during Street cleanings are scheduled on the third Saturday morning of the month, but were sometimes cancelled last year due to adverse weather conditions and because we have only a few volunteers and they all aren t always available at the same time. A list of volunteers and the number of months each of them served during 2014 is shown in the table. *Alice Sveum provided snacks for the workers when they finished and then had a social time. Call one of the workers and let them know if you could assist with this community service project. Dave Sveum (303) Times Served Name of Worker During 2014 Eric Amdahl 1 Garett Amdahl 1 Jeremy Amdahl 4 Harlan Hagen 6 Jerry Peterson 1 Doris Sundet 6 David Sveum 6 *Alice Sveum 6 Total Times Served 31 Ed. note-thank you, Dave and Alice Sveum for heading this committee for many years and a big Tusen Takk to all your volunteers that help keep our neighborhood and yard clean and safe! SPEAKING OF THE LODGE. Things are being done here and there and about. You may not notice these things being changed between November and February, such as: A new furnace to replace one of our old ones on the roof that no longer worked. New poles/cable for the front yard (we recently had the stumps removed by grinding.) New lights installed on our existing poles in the parking lot that should improve visibility. These changes were discussed at the board meetings and approved at the general meetings. These changes will make our lodge building safer and more comfortable. IMPORTANT NOTICE CHANGES TO THE BY-LAWS (Any changes in by-laws must be posted in the NL 2 times; this is the 2 nd posting) Final voting will be held at the General Meeting on Jan. 19 th. At the General Meeting in November, we proposed a By-Law change with regard to the way prospective members are approved for membership. In the past, prospective new members needed to be voted in by the membership. The new proposal will allow the individual to become a member as soon as such individual has signed his/her membership form and made the proper payment. The By-Law change will read as follows: "When a prospective member calls to join Sons of Norway- Trollheim at either Sons of Norway International, District Six, or Trollheim Lodge and the proper payment is made, the prospective member becomes a full member automatically." This eliminates having to wait 30 days or longer for a vote from the general membership to approve the application. We are losing new members because of the waiting period for a vote. The New Member application has a line for payment by credit card. Are you still cutting out stamps? Christmas cards are a great source of fun and colorful stamps! TUBFRIM is the charity sponsored by SON that uses these stamps for fund-raising. How about those coupons for education? Help our lodge continue to support our outreach programs for the community. You can drop off the stamps or coupons at the lodge, or call Elaine Homan, to arrange for pick-up, or information. 6
