2 PRAYER POWER By Rev. David Brown The Sunday School Teacher was telling the children that Jesus should live inside of us. But this little boy was thinking about how big Jesus was physically and asked, If Jesus is inside of me, shouldn t he be sticking out somewhere? Now that is exactly the point. If we have Christ inside our lives, it should show on the outside. All that prayer power inside of you needs to be released to accomplish God s Will, not only inside you, but in the world through you. Once you are filled with prayer power, you are called to do good works in the world. We are called to use God s prayer power to make changes in our physical lives, not just our spiritual lives. The same is true for churches. If we are being changed spiritually, what are we changing in our ministry that can be seen on the outside? Through prayer, what is God calling KRCC to become, right here, right now? A boy getting quizzed for his Bar Mitzvah was asked a question, and the question was this: The Talmud lists ten strong things. Can you tell us what they are? The Boy could not remember exactly, but he did remember some of the ten, and that was good enough. Anyway, here are the ten strong things from the Talmud: Iron is strong, but fire melts it. Fire is strong but water quenches it. Water is strong, but clouds evaporate it. Clouds are strong, but wind drives them away. Man is strong, but fear casts him down. Fear is strong, but sleep overcomes it. Sleep is strong, yet death is stronger. But loving-kindness survives death. What does it all mean? Perhaps a pastoral paraphrase on prayer power from Ephesians 3:20-21 might help: Now to God, who by the power at work within us- Prayer Power, the power of God, the power of lovingkindness now to him who by the power at work within us (the people of the Karl Road Christian Church) is able to accomplish far more than all we can ask or imagine, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen. Designing Our Destiny Designing Our Destiny will be a spectacular all-church event for all members and friends of the Karl Road Christian Church. This event will be held 9:00AM 12:30 PM on Saturday, September 19 th. You are invited to participate as together we will design our destiny as the people of the Karl Road Christian Church. Put this date on your calendar now. What is God now calling this church to become? Come and share your ideas, values and vision of what this church might become. Let us work together on this exciting task of Designing Our Destiny.
3 4 D Cycle of Appreciative Inquiry Discover Destiny We will develop specific initiatives for implementing positive change with practical action plans for reaching our goals! Design 9:00-12:30 SEPTEMBER 19 th We will conceive provocative and creative ideas for change! We will eat breakfast, sing songs and have fun together! We will give some direction to our Search Committee! We will set some goals and priorities! We will agree upon a shared vision for our future! Dream What is God calling us to become right now? We are seeking to determine God s will and imagine what could and should be!
4 4 th of July Parade Thank You Volunteers! Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped during the Northland 4 th of July parade, including a special thank-you to Rob Lynskey, who drove his truck as part of our parade entry. Thank you to the volunteers who walked in the parade, including Daryl Lynskey, Wendy Taylor, Eugene Johnson and his family, Sarah Waldsmith, Jim and Marilyn Waldsmith, and Pastor Dave. Thank you also to everyone who donated candy and bottled water and who helped to pass out water and lemonade in front of the church. Vacation Bible School 2015 Vacation Bible School (G-Force God s Love in Action) was held July We had a big turn-out, with seventy-two children, age 3-Grade 6, attending. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU to all of the volunteers who staffed our VBS and helped to make it a fun and successful week. These fabulous individuals are: Kim Veatch Becky Fine, Jeri Hiestand, Carol Fry, Wendy Taylor, Frank Gonzales, Eric Francis, Mauro Rivera, Marcus Drees, Pastor Dave, Alan Veatch, Dave Young, Jolynne Francis, Gerrie Miller, Sarah Robinson, Trish Hiestand, Ruth Years, Jeanmarie Moss, Pat Hibbard, Janet Marshall, Muriel Clark, Lois Garner, Glenn Gerhart, John Geyer, Lindsay Gerhart, Melissa Holland, Kerry Baker, Meghan Fry, June Sliker, Lorna Gerhart, Sarah Waldsmith, Erica Gonzales, Marilyn Waldsmith, Peggy Sorenson, Toni Sorenson, Stacy Quinn, Lina Gonzales, Brad Waldsmith, Tiffany Jamison, and Janae Jamison. Another big Thank you to everyone who donated food for our VBS snacks. We had a wonderful cook-out on our closing night, thanks to Daryl Lynskey and his team. During the week, we collected $163 for our VBS mission project, the Society of St. Andrew (SoSA), which provides a food rescue and distribution ministry. As a hunger relief organization, SoSA gleans, or collects, leftover crops from farmers fields and delivers them to agencies across the nation that serve the poor. Many community volunteers participated in a food drop project with this organization during the General Assembly. Wendy Taylor also took a group of our youth on a mission trip at the end of July to experience the work of this organization first-hand, as they gleaned crops from fields in northern Ohio. Promotion Sunday August 23 All children who are advancing to a new class will be recognized on Promotion Sunday, August 23.
5 FAMILY FUN DAY SATURDAY, AUGUST 15th Family Fun Day is a wonderful opportunity for KRCC to reach out to the neighborhood and provide a day of fun for the whole family. It also gives us a chance to help out with school supplies and jackets for families who may need help with these items. We are collecting school supplies for the neighborhood schools which will be distributed August 11 th and 12 th. We will be donating the school supplies directly to the schools this year instead of handing them out on Family Fun Day. Bottled water can be left in the Narthex Closet. Jackets and coats (new and gently worn, all sizes) may be brought at any time and stored in the Narthex Closet. The Youth are sponsoring a Cake Walk during Family Fun Day. All that is needed are some YUMMY home-made cakes to give as prizes. We would love it if you would bake one or two for us. We would like to have silent auction baskets and gift cards here by Thursday, August 13 th between 9:00 am and 1:00 pm. Ask your friends and businesses you frequent for donations. We need volunteers to help in many capacities. Please sign up for 2 hour shifts for games, prize tables, raffle tickets, coat distribution or just helping where needed. Sign-up sheets are on the bulletin board outside the church office. FAMILY FUN DAY is always a TRUE FUN DAY" for all when everyone is working together. This is your last chance for a good summer read through our library. Look for the mobile library cart in the narthex for a sampling of the good materials from different categories. There are also some videos available. ~~Lois Garber, KRCC Librarian
