1 First Baptist Church June 3, 2018 As the church maintains its independence from culture it is best able to affect culture The true church cleaves to the absolute standards of Scripture and is infused with the work of the Holy Spirit to guide it... If we set out to recapture culture, seeing the church as God s instrument to save the world [politically], we will fail the church is not a tool to rebuild society. Our goal is to be faithful to the holy God who calls us to be the church, whether we actually make a difference in our [cultural and political] world or whether it falls to pieces around us and dissolves into a stew of secularism. When we are faithful...we cannot help but make a positive impact on society. But this is not why we are faithful... 4 Coming Events THIS WEEK VBS Training All VBS Volunteers! VBS Trainings will be held at North Madison Christian TODAY at 2:30p and tomorrow, June 11th, at 7p. Youth Group All 6th -12 graders are invited to join us for movie night with our youth group at Eggleston on Wednesday, June 13th from 7p- 9p. We ll be watching Wonder. NEXT WEEK Community VBS Community Vacation Bible School will be Monday, June 18th through Thursday, June 21st from 6p-8:15p each night at North Madison Christian Church. Our theme will be Shipwrecked: Rescued by Jesus! VBS is for all potty-trained kids ages 3 through complete grade 5. You can register to volunteer or participate at madisoncommunityvbs.com. COMING SOON Church Family Get-Together Come fellowship with your church family! Invite family and friends and come to an all church gathering, pitch-in, and cookout at the Tottens (1100 S. Riverview Dr, Hanover) on Sunday, June 24th from 12:45p-3p. Church Camp Families and children and teens of all ages can learn about Jesus in a camping experience at Westport Camp! Schedules and forms are available in the lower auditorium and at wesptortcamp.com under Camp Sessions tab, or in the Kidz Worship room. Cost varies from $12.50 to $62.50 and includes all food, lodging and a t-shirt! Scholarships available. Couples Retreat All married couples! Looking for a way to have fun and grow closer to each other? Mark your calendars! We re holding a one day retreat for all married couples on Saturday, August 18th at Eggleston from 8a- 7p. The retreat will be led by Brad Johnson and will include catered meals, fun activities, and group discussion times personalized for couples particular needs and interests (gathered from an online survey couples will fill out before the retreat). Sign-ups will be available next week. SPECIAL NOTES Irene Youngblood is turning 90! Her family is inviting all her friends to a special party for her on Saturday, June 23rd, from 2p-5p in the event room at the American Legion (non smoking side).

5 Opportunities GIVING & SERVING OPPORTUNITIES Madison Mission Week Meal Help We re providing breakfast for Madison Mission Week on Wednesday, June 13th and need people willing to help serve, clean up, and provide food for the meal, which will serve 125 people. We ll need donuts, gallons of milk and juice, chopped fruit, and breakfast casseroles. Servers need to arrive and food needs to be dropped off in the basement by 7:30a on Wednesday. We also need people willing to arrive by 7a to help make pancakes. If you d like to help, please write Madison Mission Meal on your communication card or call Judy Wright at so she can coordinate the meal items. One Great Hour of Sharing This month we re focusing on One Great Hour of Sharing, a relief fund that helps people around the world recover from natural disasters and fight poverty. If you d like to donate please use the envelopes in your pew or designate gifts One Great Hour of Sharing. VBS Meal Help We re providing the VBS volunteer meal on Tuesday, June 19th, and need people willing to help serve and provide food for the meal. We ll need individually bagged chips, fruit and veggie trays (or pre-chopped, read-to-serve veggies and fruit) dip, and cookies. We ll be serving 175 people. Servers need to arrive and all food needs to be dropped off by 4:30p at North Madison Christian. If you d like to help, please write VBS Meal on your communication card or call Judy Wright at so she can coordinate the meal items. Candle Lighters We re looking for children interested in arriving a few minutes early for worship services to light the altar candles on Sundays for first and second service. Any children interested can contact Beth Skirvin at or sign up in the lower auditorium. Community VBS Helpers We re still looking for a few more VBS volunteers (see opposite page for details on VBS dates and times.) We need crew leaders, crew helpers, special buddies to work 1 on 1 with kids with special needs, subs to fill in for absences on any day, and people to help with set up and tear down. (Set up will be at 9a on Monday, June 18th, and tear down will be at 7:45p on Thursday, June 21st.) Registration Volunteers need to arrive at 4:45p on Monday, June 18th. General Volunteers need to arrive at 5p. To help, register at madisoncommunityvbs.com. Contact Kelly if you have questions ( or fbckidz@madisonfbc.org).
