2 INFORMATION FROM THE PRESIDENT EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR Motti Locker PRESIDENT Victor Shernoff FINANCIAL SECRETARY Elise Shernoff RECORDING SECRETARY Ed Bernard TREASURER Michael Bonder IMMEDIATE PAST PRESIDENT Steven Roth BOARD MEMBERS Matthew Allan Robyn Carroll Adam Fins Kenneth Hoffman Fran Kaminsky Marcy Konter Nancy Isaacson Jeff Mayo Rick Meier Scott Samuels Barry Schlafstein Linda Zoller Good afternoon everyone. It is with great joy that I write this month's newsletter introducing someone who we have been looking for over two years to fill the most important role in our synagogue life. I am extremely proud of the support of the Rabbi search committee, the Board of Directors, and the congregation in voting unanimously at each level for Rabbi Steven Henkin as our new Rabbi effective sometime this summer. At the end of this newsletter is a biological sketch of Rabbi Henkin's family. In addition, our 3 year plan,15 member committee with Fran Kaminsky excellently leading us, has produced a living, breathing document which really defines who we are now and what we what to be in the next 3 years. This document is on the way to all of our members. Please read it and become a part of it. Find something in the plan that you want to work for and call Fran, Motti, or me to volunteer. Lastly our gala is set for Sunday, June 4. The wonderful band The Headliners from Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, will play music for our dancing. The food will be catered and we all look for a great time. We will have silent auction items and live auction items. Look for information in the extremely near future about our gala. Rabbi Steven Henkin and his wife, Orly, fell in love with the Savannah area when they first visited almost ten years ago and are thrilled to be coming back. After spending the last three years as Director of Congregational Learning outside of Washington, D.C., and focusing on Jewish education, he is excited to bring his love of teaching, relationship-building, and helping people on their Jewish journeys to AA. A native of New Jersey and south Florida, Orly spent 10 years after college working in the Jewish world, doing everything from being a synagogue program director to running a Jewish preschool. After spending time in the mid-atlantic region and experiencing a blizzard, she is excited to be returning to the warm weather of the south and bringing her love of Judaism to our new community. Rabbi Henkin and Orly are parents to Dinah, a sassy, sweet, dolphin-loving eight-year-old, and Noah, a funny, energetic, vehicle-addicted three-year-old. Rabbi Henkin and his family are excited for this new adventure and can t wait to join y all at the AA! HONORARY MEMBER David Hirsh MEN S CLUB PRESIDENT David Hirsh CHEVRA KADISHA David Reeves ENDOWMENT COMMITTEE CHAIRMAN Joel Goodman RITUAL COMMITTEE Steve Arkin SHALOM SCHOOL Eva Locker Remember our doors are always open so please come in. Everyone have a Happy & Healthy Passover. My best always, Victor APRIL 2017 NISAN-IYAR 5777 Page 2
3 DONOR DUES PROGRAM APRIL 2017 NISAN-IYAR 5777 Page 3
4 SISTERHOOD Here are 4 simple steps to do this: How do I Send a Mitzvah-Gram? 1 Print out the Mitzvah-Gram page from the current HaYom newsletter with the list of people celebrating a birthday or anniversary in February. 2 Circle the names of all those people to whom you would like to send a Happy Birthday or Happy Anniversary greeting. 3 Mail or deliver your list, along with your check made out to Agudath Achim Sisterhood for $.50 for each circled name, to Barbara Abrams, 24 Raindrop Lane, Bluffton, S.C , or leave your list and check in the synagogue office. 4 Make sure to include your name(s) the way you want it (them) listed. In order for your birthday and anniversary greetings to be delivered in a timely manner, everyone needs to turn in May s Mitzvah-Gram sheet by the 15 th of April. If you have any questions about this project, please contact me at barba43@hargray.com, or at (843) or (843) Thanks to everyone for participating in this exciting program.
