2 Prof Tallay Ornan Course/Module description: Introduction to 1st mill. Mesopotamian srt & archaeology; a concise survey of the Assyrian palaces and their decorative program, Assyrian steles & rock reliefs and a survey of some Babylonian monuments. We shall also discuss few Assyrian and Babylonian finds from the conquered territories of the two empires, including ancient Israel/Palestine. Course/Module aims: To enable beginners in the art history of the ancient Near East to gain the needed methodological tools for analyzing visual archaeological records. Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to: On successful completion of this course the students will be able to identify and categorize the various Assyrian wall reliefs and the relation to their architectural contexts. The students will be able to analyze Assyrian rock reliefs and stele as well as Babylonian artifacts and their political, social and religious symbolism.
