Happenings in the ECD Although we only had two weeks of school in April, our EC students were so busy and learned so much! Morah Lilac from Animaly brought a two-week-old goat named Bamba and the yeladim learned so much about the kid. They loved petting and holding it! We celebrated Rosh Chodesh Nissan with many of the parents followed by a very informative pre -Pesach presentation given by our morot. They shared ideas and tips on How to make the Seder come alive for your preschooler. Our Kindergartens had a blast on their trip to the Matzah Bakery in Westwood. There, the yeladim were taken on a historical journey back in time to Mitzrayim where they sat among the pyramids. The yeladim made their own Matza after they watched the whole Matza - making process! What an educational and exciting trip for the children! All of our EC classes had a model seder before Pesach vacation. Yasher Koach to all of our morot for doing an amazing job preparing the children for the Pesach seder. During the months of March and April, our yeladim were focused on fitness and staying in shape! They did yoga, Zumba and lots of stretches and exercises with coaches from My Gym, as well as with their morot. Thank you to Nurse Ohana for exercising with the children and for reading a story about being healthy. Wishing all of you a Shabbat Shalom and Chodesh Tov! Warmly, Malka Katz

PTA ANNOUNCEMENTS How are the kids doing with their Triathlons? We know it's been a busy 2 weeks since we handed out the envelopes, but hopefully now that the kids are back into their routine we can continue to encourage them to focus on Exercise, Reading and Learning Torah so that it becomes a part of your child's daily routine. The envelopes will be due on Wednesday, May 28th. This will give us enough time to calculate and distribute prizes before the exciting field day to celebrate a job well done! We would like to thank Jeremie Braun, the founder of Shabbat Kits for all of the amazing work he does for our community. He has come to Yavneh over a dozen times to have classes participate in packing Shabbat Kits. These kits are filled with challot, grape juice, shabbos candles and brachot and are delivered every week to hospitals and aging homes. This week our first grade and fourth grade girls had a blast packing and decorating the Shabbat Kits that were sponsored by Rabbi and Shira Einhorn so Morah Sofya will merit a refuah Shleima. These Shabbat Kits are sure to bring a smile to many patients faces. Yasher Koach to Jeremie Braun on this wonderful idea that gives kids a hand on approach to doing chesed!! Mazal Tov to our 4th grade Morah Raizy Kaplan on the birth of a baby boy! We will be coordinating meals for the Kaplan Family. Considering the various allergies within the family, Raizy and Yehuda have kindly asked that their meals come from either Real Food Daily or Fish Grill. In order to facilitate this process, please sign up on Mealtrain.com ( select the Kaplan s choices (see favorite meal choices...more to be listed soon), post what you will be ordering to avoid back to back same meals and then on your day that you signed up, please pick up the order and deliver it to Raizy and Yehuda, 179 s. Detroit St Thank you so much! Teacher Appreciation Week is May 5th May 9th and we re super excited! Please see the attached letter... For Sale! Get Your Kippot and Headbands! For your convenience, kippot and headbands are now available for purchase at the front desk. We sell delicious and healthy fruit cups every Monday in carpool. If you'd like to help please pta@yha.org.

Teacher Appreciation Week is May 5 th May 9 th and we re super excited! Let s show our Morot, Rebbeyim and T.A.'s how much we appreciate all of their hard work and dedication. They are with our children for the majority of the day and have a very important job, helping our children reach their full potential. Let's make this a week they won t forget! To kick the week off, the PTA will be setting up a nice lunch for all the Morot, Rebbeyim and T.A s on Monday in the Board Room. If you re asking, What can I do for my Teacher? The answer is we can all contribute something small to make them feel special and appreciated all week. Let s spoil them with breakfast, lunch and other tokens of appreciation (gift cards, flowers/plants, cakes, etc.). To enable this, we ve shared a Google Doc with everyone. The top row displays the meal (e.g. Tuesday Breakfast, Tuesday Lunch, etc.), and the column displays the class. Please include your name for the meal that works best for you and also what you're bringing just so that we avoid too much repetition with the meals. Don t forget the TA s, Art teacher, Gym teachers, Ivrit teachers and Science teacher (they can be found on the bottom of the spreadsheet). On Friday the other category can include a Shabbos dessert, challot and Shabbos flowers. Please make sure that everything is store bought and has a heksher our teachers hold by. Please also avoid putting your name down in the blackout spaces. We are so lucky to have such great teachers. This is our chance to show them how much we appreciate all their hard work! Tizku L mitzvot! Thank you all so much! Ganit and Esti

IT S BACK May/June are Bring Healthy Fruits and Vegetables to school months with: PICK YOUR FAVORITE COLORS OF THE RAINBOW Food tastings Food Crafts Books and activities Food Demonstrations and more Help and encourage your child to pack healthy fruits and vegetables for snacks and lunches. They will not only earn tickets for raffles, prizes, and more.

Lisette Ohana, RN School Nurse Whole Foods Market was kind enough to come to Yavneh last month bringing their Vitamix bike and make smoothies with the students. This is a stationary bike that has a blender attached above the front wheel and when cycling the fruit and contents of the blender is blended into a smoothie. Ellen from Whole Foods blended with organic blueberries, strawberries, bananas, and flax milk to make delicious smoothies. The students loved it!! Below are some health benefits of these fruits. Blueberries: They may be small but they are loaded with great antioxidants that protect the body from damage caused by harmful molecules. This damage plays a part in the development of blood vessel diseases, cancers, and other conditions. The best sources of antioxidants are fruits and vegetables and blueberries are considered a power fruit. Researchers think the pigment that makes blueberries blue might be the key ingredient that makes them such a healthy food. Strawberries: They too are packed with high levels of antioxidants, fiber, and vitamins, especially Vitamin C that is necessary for healthy bones, teeth, gums, and blood vessels. Vitamin C aids in the absorption of iron, in wound healing, and in brain function. Bananas: It comes wrapped in its own package and packed with many vitamins and minerals including Vitamin C and Potassium that helps to support heart health and helps to maintain normal blood pressure. Flax seed: Is a great source of fiber that s important for digestion, omega-3 that plays an important role in the anti-inflammatory system, and lignans that help to reduce the risk of certain cancers. Try it in yogurts, pancake mixes, oatmeal, salads, and breads. Thank you Whole Foods Market and Ellen for sponsoring this Vitamix event and for Yavneh parent Rochel Leah Deitcher for facilitating this. Whole Foods has agreed to return to Yavneh next month for a fruit and vegetable tasting experience. Thank you! As always, a diet rich in a variety of fruits and vegetables is important for the good health of our children and families.
