Bismillah 24 th November 2012 surah Qamar CLASS 7 V27-32 [ No class on 17 th ] The way to salvation for mankind is to take what Allah has revealed seriously.despite all the proofs Allah has sent yet there are humans rejecting them. It is out of Allah s rahma that he even sends signs. And we are told about previous nations. The stories of previous nations is to teach us that however powerful these nations were if they reject Allah s signs, they will be destroyed. Last week we started about the QAWMU THAMUUD. Allah sent them Salih as a messenger. But the people REFUSED to believe in him (the messenger) and his message. Allah also told us about the reasons why Saalih was choosen over everyone else to be the messenger. Because one rebuke towards him from his people was that he was a man like them. despite all his good qualities how his people called him a LIAR and rejected him. Allah says in the FUTURE they will know who were the REAL LIARS ASHAR we said was the one who is arrogant and thinks he is above everyone. Today from verse 27 To understand this we should know Qawmu thamud asked for something specifically from the messenger. All the past nations made statements or committed one thing which made them DESERVE Allah s punishment. Ex Qawmu Aad were arrogant and claimed they were BETTER than everyone else or above everyone else of their time. This caused their destruction The stories of previous nations are not just stories. If anyone follows their steps (maybe not a nation) they too will be punished. The way of Allah is ONE WAY.so these stories are a warning for us not to make the mistakes like our predecessors who were destroyed إ ر وا ٱ م ر م و ٱ ط ر.27 V Verily, We are sending the she-camel as a test for them. So watch them [O Sâlih (Saleh) A.S.], and be patient! (27) These people, QAWMU THAMUD, challenged the messenger of Allah and also challenged Allah. They asked specifically for Allah and the messenger to bring a sign to prove that the message and the messenger were true. If Allah wants to send a sign he will. These people are ASKING specifically what they want like a challenge to Allah THE SIGN they wanted was- from a particular rock they wanted Allah to deliver them a She-Camel who was 10 months pregnant Of course Allah can deliver and do whatever he wills. But when they asked it like this, there were conditions when He delivered it to them

This is why it s best not to challenge Allah like this because when you ask or test or demand things from Allah if he delivers it to them what they demand will in ITSELF become a TRIAL for the person demanding it. Allah can deliver whatever you ask or challenge but if you do you can know FOR SURE it will have conditions. So accept the signs he has sent us already. We dnt need to ask for anything more we are surrounded by many signs. But disbelievers are like this. they don t want to accept but challenge Allah as did Qawmu Thamud VERILY starts off this sentence because Allah is GREAT in his attributes, his kalimaat is the best. This إ term indicates Allah s honour and majesty وا is from ARSALAA meaning (Allah ) SENT ر them. is the SHE CAMEL (which they asked for) but look at how it is described as coming to ٱ It came in the form of م A TRIAL or TEST Fitnah is derived from fatana.this means a trial which obscures a person from seeing the truth We would assume that if the sign they requested was delivered it would make them believe perfectly. But instead when fitnah is used it means this sign became a means of CONFUSION for them. Fitan are all like this. they are tests where we don t know that it is a test nor can we understand if it is true or not. FITNAH are deceiving tests. These are different for when you KNOW something is a TEST. All our duniya are FITNAH. They are tests we don t know. This is why Allah tells us about this in the QURAN. If we wer not told this in life if something GOOD happens we will assume oh im good whereas if something BAD happens I will think oh im so bad. But Allah tells us BOTH THE Good and the Bad are TESTS. EX- everything you see is a test. your kids, the sun, the people, your home, your illness etc The fitnah is a test for how you react. Does everything you see make you KNOW Allah? Or are you just engrossed in indulging and forgetting Him?whwn hardships come are you busy with the trial and forgetting Allah? Both cases HARDSHIP and GOODNESS your focus on Allah is how you pass the test. So don t forget Allah. And how much worse is the FITNAH when you challenege or request over and over from Allah for something and He gives you what you want? Ex- sometimes people want certain things even in duniya and they keep at it asking and asking Allah to give them this.and they are focused only on this thing they DON T have. They are hasty. And then when Allah provides them with what they wanted sometimes it is so much of a trial they wish they had never gotten it. SUBHANALLAH

When you are hasty in the things you demand, they will come in the form of a fitnah. So always be happy with what he gave. Don t insist in something because you don t know what is good for you or not and Allah knows. Ex- maybe the house you want is not good for them, the money you wish you had is not good for you, the child you wish for is not good for you now etc The Miracle they asked for should make Qawmu Thamud closer to Allah but instead it turned them backwards. It took them further away from Allah. It was a deceiving trial for them. This is why Allah shows some ayat to His Creation with the condition that if they didn t take the miracle and believe they will have to face Allah s PUNISHMENT. And their punishment is more severe because they ASKED FOR IT. Qawmu Thamud are more arrogant than even Qawmu Aaad because they asked Allah for the miracle by way of a challenge. And their arrogance is because despite the fact that they had KNOWLEDGE of His Greatness and Ability they rejected His sign and belief in HIM. We need to remember always that Allah is HUWA AL QAADIR AL QADEER so don t challenge Him. you need to believe in Him because everything shows us His ability. And these people PUT THEMSELVES in the fitnah. Sometimes even we do this. We shouldn t. What else do we see? This she camel is ISTHITHRAAJ MINALLAH. Allah knows these people will NOT believe. And HE IS ABLE to destroy them without sending the she camel because even prior to sending of the she camel they were deserving of His Punishment.they challeneged Allah and the messenger this is enough to deserve punishment. But He sent it in order they will earn more sins to deserve more punishment. And we know NONE of the people believed in Him. ISTHITHRAAJ is from DARAJ which means gradually or the steps to make it happen.the steps leading to destruction. The fitnah we know deceived them. And also this was ISTHITHRAAJ because it led them in steps to more punishment. Even for us Allah shows right and wrong. But there are times when the means of approaching CERTAIN SINS are very easy for us. This is ISTHITHRAAJ. Some people say when they commit sin as an excuse (which it is NOT) if Allah didn t mean for me to do the sin it would not have been left so easy for me to commit it When a person wants to sin for the first time we will always see there will be an obstacle and it will be hard. And despite many obstacles we see the person does the sin. Why does Allah put this obstacle? Because maybe it will make him hesistant to do it, maybe he will repent and not do it etc. especially in the beginning of doing sins this is how it will be Allah knows such a person s heart is still alive to know this is wrong. And for sinners in the start its always hard to do the sin- I need to hide the sin form my mother, be secretive etc But when the person keeps doing it again and again with all obstacles (keeps insisting on it) then it will become ISTHITHRAAJ The steps to it will become easy unlike before. People will be invited and joining you in the sin. And then this person will think oh maybe it s not so bad that s why it s easy And this is scary cos you think the means of approaching the sin are very easy. And this is very deceiving.

This is what happened to QAWMU THAMUD. Allah opened the means for them to sin more So this is why when you find the means to do sin very approachable and easy don t be deceived. You need to really feel afraid and ask Allah to help you stay away from it. don t commit it. Another example of ISTHITHRAAJ is the story about the ASHAABU SABTH (the people of the Sabbath) These people of Banu Israeel ASKED Allah themselves for a holiday and He gave them SATURDAY This was a request they made. They want a break meaning NO ONE SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO WORK. They asked for this to be made HARAAM. Not like they be given a choice. But for it to be banned. And it became a fitnah. Because on this day they asked for ALL THE FISH used to come to the surface of the water and fishing was easy Ex- time of prayer more customers come maybe. And you are wanting to close shop but you want to make a sale. This is a fitnah. So these people found it very hard. They used to keep their nets out on Friday night and pull the nets in on Sunday. in reality they were fishing on Saturday. They tried to trick their way out of the conditions which THEY asked Allah to make for them. So Banu Israel asked for it, were given this day wherein it became a test and they ended up LOSERS. This is why in our life sometimes when we persist in asking for something- like a new house and Allah gives it to us it ends up becoming a fitnah. Especially when you challenge Allah for something, make vows, keep persisting on demanding for it etc it is prone to become a test for you. This sort of demanding is different to just making dua. Ex- Some people want so badly to have children, houses, wealth and they keep insisting and asking Allah for it. when they actually get what they want it may become a trial. Aakhirah ask what you want but duniya we don t know what is good and what is bad. So ask Allah but don t insist. You don t want it to be a trial Another example of ISTHITHRAAJ is that of the Sahabah of prophet sallallahualayhi'wasallam. They were given A TEST but they were WINNERS in the test of isthithraaj. Their test was when they wanted to do UMRAH. we know that while in a state of Ihram you cannot hunt for any animals or birds. When they all went to makkah for the umrah the birds used to ome very close to them. It was a test for them but they didn t commit the Haram because they knew they were not allowed. So we need to realize that when things like this happen it is A TEST FOR US م So now back to the verse things to overcome it ر م 1. when you are faced with this TEST you should be doing two means TO WAIT FOR THEM. Like you are hiding and watching and waiting to see what will happen to them.

This Wait is for the people s decision to believe or disbelieve and also for Allah to decide how they should be dealt with when they reject the ayat.. BE VERY PATIENT و ٱ ط ر.2 This is advice Allah gave the MESSENGER- Salih. And we should all follow the footsteps of the messengers if we are ever faced with a situation like this Maybe when we read the story of Thamud we feel what a great ayat I don t know why they didn t believe. If it was me I would have believed. But WE CANNOT judge them because the same thing could happen to us. Sometimes Allah may send a sign for us and we too may see it as a god thing while everyone else realizes it is a trial. This is how a fitnah is. It will be a trial on the PERSON himself. But the outside people can see it clearly. This is why we make dua asking Allah to turn our hearts to His Deen. This is why in the Hadith it tells us to know Allah in times of ease and then HE will be there for us in times of hardship. And we NEED His Aid. Firmness is with Allah we need to seek it from HIM. This is why the messenger is told to WAIT (IRTHAKIB) which is the first step. This WAIT itself needs lot of و ٱ ط ر SABAR this is why after that the second step is And it doesn t say WAS BIRR it says WAS patient. BIRR. USBIR means be ط But in Arabic language to add more emphasis they add the (in this case to say you need MORE than ط normal sabr). And having this sort of patience is not easy. Even normal patience maybe daunting for some of us therefore it is good to know Allah doesn t command us to be ISTHABIRR always. There are specific instances this word ISTHABIR is used ex- the SALAAT. Allah says in the Quran that we should be ISTHABIRR ( be extra patient) when we are praying. So this is the advice to the Messenger WAIT and BE EXTRA PATIENT. We need these two because it is AN NASAR AL KAREEM. Because if you have this that means VICTORY is very near. This is scary because for a person who is sinning and at the start it was hard when things suddenly become easy (to sin) they may think it s a good thing. But it is actually the path being made easy for his desctuction. So what they see as a GOOD sign is actually NOT GOOD. م 2 ل- 0 ر ب,- + ر 28. V % و #$ م أ ن ٱ ء And inform them that the water is to be shared between (her and) them. each one's right to drink being established (by turns). (28) Previously we mentioned that when the People of Thamud demanded their own choice of miracle be delivered there was a condition. Verse 28 is THE CONDITION Allah gave them upon which He would bestow the miracle.

is THE GREAT NEWS (of the condition). NABBI HUM is from the word NABBA HA و #$ م م % ء أ ن ٱ the water was to be shared between the miracle and them The name Thamud is given to these people because their town was built around a body of water. And in a desert having a body of water is something VERY PRECIOUS to them. And now the condition was they had to share the WATER with the SHE-CAMEL. This is why when you get something YOU REQUEST/ INSIST UPON OR BADLY WANT and KEEP ASKING FOR it may become a trial because it might be a strain or test on something else of value to you which you already have. So this water they have was م %. To be DIVIDED between ALL THE TOWNSPEOPLE and the SHE-CAMEL. She was to share with them their precious resource of water. So now the camel was a burden to them because the condition was that they alternated drinking 2 ل- each one has a SPECIFIC DRINK 0 ر ب so One day the whole town could drink water and the she-camel would not drink on that day. but on the following day when she WOULD drink the townspeople could not touch the water. And imagine they ASKED FOR THIS. This is why even for isthikaarah we ask Allah IF IT S GOOD THEN GIVE IT TO ME. This is because especially in duniya matters YOU DON T KNOW what is best for you. Most certainly make dua but don t make dua thinking in your heart if I have this one thing all my problems will be solved. Don t be hasty. There is a difference to making dua knowing Allah will give it if it is good for you and insisting on something you don t have. when you insist and insist for something from Allah and are thinking about what you don t have day and night, when Allah finally gives it to you thereafter it will become a trial for you. Everything in duniya is anyway iththibaar- house kids people husband etc all of it is a FITNAH. When we make the dua Rabbana aathinaa fidduniya hasanah wa fil aakhirathi hasana wa kina azaabannaar We don t want anything of the duniya to be a trial. This is why we make this rabbana dua. We want the things which Allah blesses us with in the duniya to help us achieve a good end in the Aakhirah. so when we ask for something we don t have this is what we should ask. We don t want to ask for something which will make us lose out in the Aakhirah. So go ahead and ask for Whatever you need in duniya. you should be asking these things from Allah alone- the money kids house etc. however ask Him all this really feeling in your heart that you are leaving it in HIS HANDS to determine if it is good for you to have or not. understand Allah KNOWS what is in your heart WHEN YOU ASK He knows if you think- I want money and if I have money now my life will be complete, if I have kids now my happiness will complete etc Let Allah determine what suits you.

approached.,- the THING being + ر from term HADARA which means TO COME so this means whoever it is meant for will drink. ر ب 0 means DRINK. And this is According to the rules on who is allowed to drink.. they are not allowed to exceed their boundaries. So this is why the miracle was given BUT with the condition Ex- people who are poor and make dua asking for money from Allah There are restrictions rules responsibilities- give zakath, give for the poor, etc Even wanting kids there are conditions to be followed after getting child You get a good job even this has conditions So Allah gave them the FITNAHwith conditions. And these people of THAMUD are not happy with this especially because when the she-camel has her day to drink she would finish all the water. Though Allah would give them they didn t like the she-camel So despite them asking for it they are suffering now. And Allah gave this TRIAL to the qawmu thamud because they challenged Allah so it was a path leading them down MORE destruction. None of them were brave enough to touch the she-camel with harm because she is NAAKATHULLAH the she-camel of Allah. She is not just any camel but a miracle from Allah. When they were searching they found one man from among the WICKEDEST of the people. He was the worst of all the criminals. And note how ALL THE PEOPLE OF THAMUD are unhappy that the she-camel shares their water. They all have intention to harm the she-camel but they are all cowardly to carry it out. though one man committed the crime ALL THE PEOPLE OF QAWMU THAMUD share the sin. Because they all intended it and sent him (the wicked man) on everyone elses behalf د و This means THEY CALLED HIM FROM FAR AWAY. This indicates that the person is not ا someone with them. He is a criminal so he doesn t wait with all the other people in the town. But note how Allah refers to him as, م THEIR COMPANION. Though they may be thinking they are not so guilty because they didn t commit the act, they are on equal footing with the criminal (who killed the she-camel) because they asked him to do the sin and they all had intention to harm it. So when a person requests another to sin the one advising will share the sin EQUALLY with the one actually PERFORMING IT. This is why for example even when it comes to BACKBITING the listener is also guilty of sin.it is not only limited to the one actually speaking. this is why similarly even in dealings of Riba (dealing in interest) everyone involved with dealing with it are guilty of sinning. And something else to note- we would think that for The Criminal ( who committed the killing) the crime wouldn t matter but EVEN HE had a little fear about committing it. He had to make himself completely drunk and out of his senses to be able to commit the murder.

6 ط So Allah said 5 This means STRAIGHT AWAY ف here it says ط 5 6 TO GIVE HIMSELF AWAY (sacrificed himself for this crime) BI SURR AA very fast or very easily took it up He is not even considering what he has to lose. Because he agreed to do it. 6 ر this means KILLED IT This word 8 ر is used SPECIFICALLY because this is a camel. To kill a camel is not like killing any other animal. the way to kill a camel is by cutting the LEGS and then killing it. we can see it is different to other animals like sheep, cow etc which we slaughter. % 2 ف 2 ن 8 ذ ا 5 و ذ ر.30 V Then, how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? (30) Allah s punishment is so severe. Why would anyone sacrifice themselves to bear this punishment?? That is why Allah reminds us about how terrible the punishment is. So we are reminded not to ever put ourselves in a situation to deserve this V 31. م %, و ٲ, د ة 2 وا 0 2 %م ٱ, ظ ر % 8 إ أ ر Verily, We sent against them a single Saîhah (torment - awful cry), and they became like the stubble of a fold-builder. (31 Verse 31 is about the PUNISHMENT ITSELF These people were disobeying Allah even before the miracle was sent by challenging Him. So even at that point they deserve Allah s punishment. But thereafter when they were sent the miracle (as an ISTHITHRAAJ- to do more sins) they didn t just let the creature be but committed a worse crime by killing NAAKATHULLAH They dug a deeper hole for themselves. Look at the way they were destroyed For Qawmu Aad they made a statement WHO IS BETTER THAN US? and then they were destroyed. Qawmu Thamud challenged Allah. And were destroyed with a single SHOUT/CRY

, و ٲ, د ة م % % 8 إ أ ر Verily, We sent against them a single Saîhah (torment - awful cry) This ONE CRY caused them to die and then it was followed with a shake (earth quake). The shake is mentioned in other verses. Next part is a description of what they looked like after the cry. (like) 2 و THEY BECAME ا 0 2 this word %م hash BROKEN, RUINED and SCATTERED PIECES this word is from ھ 0 %م shama. Its different to kassara. Remember how one parable of the life of this world describes it like a garden that is beautiful full of life and fresh and then how it turns to broken pieces. Look at the description in the Quran. It didn t say they just died but describes their state of death- their flesh and bones were ruined broken and scattered after this CRY. Literally the CRY made them like this. ٱ, ظ ر, came from ظ ر Remember before we had MUHTHADHAR and now in this verse it is MUHTHALIR The MUHTHDHAR was from HADHARA which meant coming The word used in this verse is MUHTHALIR from HALARA You know how when you have a fence and over it they put barb wire it is to REALLY KEEP PEOPLE AWAY This is what HALARA means. NO ONE CAN APPROACH. Some countries we know even in war etc people are not allowed to approach certain places.

So HALARA has meanings One meaning is HAJASA MANA A HABASA Kept aside Booked reserved STOP NO ONE CAN GET NEAR TO IT/ put in a prison so HALEERA is like a fence or something to STOP, RESERVE, OR IMPRISON people or animals in. the term for stable came from this The other meaning of HALARA is SHAWQ the Thorn In this verse it means like BROKEN pieces from something like a stable The picture is a very humiliating one for the state of these people after the cry and destruction. And mind you these are a very intelligent powerful people.they were very arrogant but their disbelief brought them to this undignified state. No one is allowed to see them even for fear they would get the curse of these people. Allahu a lam we may not see it (how the sound affected them) but their punishment made their BODY react like this and get broken. This is why some people use SOUND as a form of torture in even prisons. و د % ر ٱ ر ء ان ذ 2$ ر ل ن -د 2 ر.32 V And indeed, We have made the Qur'ân easy to understand and remember, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? (32) Allah is telling us this Quran is easy understand and take warning from it. this is why we are told about previous nations so that we know whoever follows their footsteps will also have a destruction in the end. So Alhamdulillah we finished this part about QAWMU THAMUD Their example was about a people who were arrogant challenging Allah and also disobeying HIM Subhaanaka Allaahumma wa bihamdika, 'ash-hadu 'an laa 'ilaaha 'illaa 'Anta, 'astaghfiruka wa 'atoobu 'ilayka. Glory is to You, O Allah, and praise is to You. I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but You. I seek Your forgiveness and repent to You. May Allah forgive me all my errors mistakes and shortcomings.they are my own or from the shayateen. Auzubillahi minas shaytaan nirrajeem.please do let me know any corrections.may Allah reward and accept from sister Emaan and us all. Ameen
