4 Week 1 SALAAH Why do we begin with Salaah? Salaah is the 1 st to be reckoned for on the Day of Judgement Relationship between faith and worship It is the pillar of Deen (religion). Notes Conditions of Salaah 1) Body must be clean 2) Clothes must be clean 3) Place must be clean 4) Qiblah 5) Body must be covered (Satr) 6) Time must be right 7) Intention 1) From VISIBLE IMPURITIES Cleanliness of the body Flowing blood, pus, matter Urine, stool of humans or animals Saliva/Sweat of a dog/carnivorous animal All parts of a pig, leather, fat, hair, tusk Liquor, wine, brandy Vomit What s the ruling on? Non-flowing blood? Cat s saliva? Sweat? Istinjaa : Istinja refers to the cleaning of the private parts after urinating or defecating. It is best to use both toilet paper and water. Always use LEFT hand to wipe or wash. Using toilet paper: for urine, dry wipe the private part a few times till no trace of any drops of urine remain. (better to use odd number of times, 3 times is preferred). After passing stools, wipe 3 times. Using water: after wiping with toilet paper wash with water. Pour water with the right hand and use the index & middle finger of the left hand to gently rub of any matter from the point of exit and its surroundings. Thereafter one can use toilet paper to dry oneself. 4 P a g e B 2 B I s l a m 1 0 1
5 Notes 2) From a STATE OF IMPURITY There are 2 States of impurity One requires Wudhu (Minor), the other requires Ghusl (Major) A) Requires Wudhu Notes Anything that emits from the two passages Any impurity that emits from the rest of the body Sleep/unconscious Laughing in Salah B) Requires a Ghusl (shower/complete body wash) Ejaculation (of semen) Wet dream Wudhu Washing certain limbs of the body as prescribed by Shariah (Islamic Law) with clean water. We require wudhu for: Salaah, Circuiting the Ka bah Touching the Qur an Compulsory Acts of Wudhu 1 Face from hair line to chin 2 Right Arm and Left Arm from fingertips to and incl. elbows 3 Wipe wet hands over a min. of ¼ of the head Notes 4 Wash right & left foot incl. ankles 5 P a g e B 2 B I s l a m 1 0 1
6 Intention Read Bismillah Wash both hands including the wrists 3 times. Be sure not to miss any part. Gargle and rinse your mouth 3 times. You could also use the Miswaak. Wash left forearm including the elbow 3 times Wash right forearm including the elbow 3 times Wash face thoroughly 3 times covering from the top of the forehead to below the chin and from one ear lobe to the other. Place some water gently into the nose with the right hand, then clean with the little finger of the left hand. Do this 3 times. MASAH: Wet hands, then wipe the head with the wet hands from the front of the head to the nape, then back the front. Using the same wet hands pass the tip of the index finger inside the groves of the ear. Now wipe the back of the ear with the thumb. Wash both feet 3 times including the ankles, beginning with the right foot. Read the dua Memo. For the week Allahu Akbar ا هلل أ ك ب ر Allah is the greatest Subhaana kallahumma wa bihamdika wa tabaara kasmuka س ب ح ان ك الل ه م و ب ح م د ك و ت ب ار ك اس م ك Glory be to You, O Allah, and all praises are due unto You, and blessed is Your name wa ta'alaa jadduka wa laa ilaaha ghayruk و ت ع الى ج د ك و ل ا له غ ي ر ك and lofty is Your majesty and none is worthy of worship but You. Halaal & Haraam (the Lawful & the Prohibited) CONSUMPTION: All vegetables/plants are Halaal as long as they are not poisonous or fermented to the extent that they have become intoxicant. All animals beside fish which have been killed without the name of Allah taken on them. 6 P a g e B 2 B I s l a m 1 0 1
7 1. Belief in Allah Belief in Allah is not confined to belief in the mere existence of a Creator. This belief necessitates the affirmation of Allah with all His Attributes in the way in which these are expounded in the Qur'aan and Hadith. 1 Allah is ONE. Notes 2 He alone is worthy of worship and none besides Him is worthy of worship. 3 He has no PARTNER 4 Nothing is hidden from Him, He even knows the thoughts that go into a person's mind. 5 He is the most POWERFUL. 6 He has created the earth, the skies, the sun, the moon, the stars, the angel, human beings and the whole universe. 7 He gives life and death. 8 He is forever and will be forever. 9 He does not eat, drink or sleep. 10 He does not have any parents, wife or children. 11 He does not depend on anybody. All depend on Him. 12 Nothing resembles Allah, and He resembles none. 13 He is pure from all faults 14 He does not have eyes, nose or a body like that of human beings 15 We should therefore PRAY to HIM for all our requirements. 6 valuable advices Jabir ibn Sulaim reported: I saw a man whose opinion was followed by everyone and no one would contradict what he said. I asked who he was and I was told he was the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. I said to him twice, Upon you be peace, O Messenger of Allah. The Prophet said, Do not say upon you be peace, for that is the greeting for the dead in the time of ignorance. Rather say peace be upon you. I asked, Are you the Messenger of Allah? The Prophet said, I am the Messenger of Allah, Allah who will remove your affliction when you are distressed and you call upon him, who will cause food to grow for you when you are starving and call to him, who will restore your lost animal in the desert when you call upon him. I said, Advise me. The Prophet said, 1. Do not be abusive to anyone Jabir R.A. says, Since then I have never abused anyone, neither a freeman, nor a slave, nor a camel, nor a sheep 7 P a g e B 2 B I s l a m 1 0 1
