1 Bismiallah 5 th May 2012 TAFSEER OF SURAH NAJM v This QURAN we see in front of us is made up of 114 surahs and EVERY verse we read with understanding has so many lessons FOR EVERYONE- all races ages cultures countries etc Allah said in Surah Qamar 54: 17 و د ر ٱ ر ء ان ذر ل ن د ر And We have indeed made the Qur'ân easy to understand and remember, then is there any one who will remember (or receive admonition)? (17 the reminder in the QURAN is easy for everyone to comprehend and it is also a special nurturing from Allah SWT. Last week we talked about the person TURNING AWAY from the truth. And he is calling others to misguidance as well. This is Despite the fact that HE doesn t EVEN know what his OWN end will be. Allah says he has NO knowledge of any other divine revelation like the Book of Musa or the Book of Ibrahim Alei و! and particularly IBRAHIM Alei is praised by Allah as Allah praises whom He wills and HE knows who deserves praise or not THE COMMON facts between SUHUFI IBRAHIM, SUHUFI MUSA,the QURAN and ALL the divine books is what is talked about from ayat 38 to 42. أ ' & ز ر و از ر ة و زر أ (ر ى.38 V That no burdened person (with sins) shall bear the burden (sins) of another. (38) this means NO. LA in arabic أ ' وزرroot have same و زرeven and و از ر ةand & ز ر means A BURDEN something u carry or bear.in Arabic it also means MISTAKES وزر What can be a burden? THE SIN Some people feel the burden of sin and some don t To feel it you need BOTH knowledge and a heart ر means WILL BEAR this is a verb means THE BEARER someone carrying or bearing a burden this is ISM FA AL و از ر ة The Thaama bootha here indicates it is a FEMALE word. This means the BEARER is the NAFS (soul) which is a female word in Arabic

2 is and ISM the object or the thing borne. The BURDEN itself. this is the SIN و ز ر This word is also in feminine form أ ى This means NO ONE WILL CARRY THE BURDEN OF SOMEONE ELSE This is also related to the actual STORY behind v 33 and 34. the man who told another person I will carry your burden if you don t accept islam All the DIVINE BOOKS state no one will carry the burden of sins of another person In LIFE we sometimes put the burden of a person who is bad on an entire nation, a whole family, a place we judge a person based on general view of his country or family or place etc. ex- so and so MUST be arrogant because usually the people from his country, city, race, family etc are arrogant. We do this in the DUNIYA But we SHOULD NOT do this. even in the DUNIYA. And look at even IBRAHIM ALEI. his father was an IDOL worshipper. But he is the FATHER OF THE BELIEVERS. He was HANEEF. Or NUH ALEI who was Muslim while his son was a kaafir How JUST Allah is!!! Subhanallah no one bears the DEEDS of someone else be it good or bad. And IN this verse it means more so the BAD/ BURDEN. EXCEPTION to THIS RULE -A PERSON INVITING ANOTHER TO COMMIT SIN Ex someone invites another person to a mixed party. I will get my sin + the other persons sin. Someone talking bad or wearing indecent clothes if she invites others to this as well she will take the sin of those who follow her invitation Sahih Muslim (2674) from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: Whoever calls others to guidance will have a reward like that of those who follow it, without that detracting from their reward in the slightest. And whoever calls others to misguidance will have a burden of sin like that of those who follow it, without it detracting from their burden in the slightest. In the Sahih, it also says: No person is killed unlawfully, but a share of the guilt will be upon the first son of Adam, because he was the first one to initiate the idea of killing another This is cause the person INITIATED THE SIN. And others followed. The person following will of course get sin but how much worse for THE one calling to sin Look at opposite MY father does good. I won t take the deed too. UNLESS my father out of His good example makes me FOLLOW him then he will get his hasanat + the hasanat of Myself; his child

3 V39.! * إ ' و أ ن س - ن And that man can have nothing but what he does (good or bad)[], (39) These two ayat go hand in hand Everyone will have what they STRIVE for. everyone is responsible for their OWN actions س - ن سnegation The sentence has means he has NOTHING for himself EXCEPT what HE strives for EXCEPT this means there is only one way to earn إ ' So we don t rely on what other people do to benefit US. We have what we work towards EXCEPTION to THIS RULE I will give away good deeds I earned IF I AM UNJUST TO SOMEONE/ or OPPRESSING SOMEONE ELSE Like if you BACKBITE someone. On the Day of Judgement you will give her YOUR hasanat. She didn t strive or work for this.but MY mistake of TAKING HER RIGHT transfers MY hasanat to her. V 38 says about the SINS And V 39 says about the HASANAT And the EXCEPTIONS to both are related respectively to the SIN and the GOOD DEEDS Something else this ayat explains is that! * STRIVING to do good can be in many ways some good deeds we do will continue EVEN after death. So we should really try to do THESE deeds especially. So that my striving is SADAQA JAARIYA. Continuous charity As for the Hadith recorded by Muslim in the Sahih, that Abu Hurayrah said that the Messenger of Allah said, «إ ذ ا م ات الا ن س ان ان ق ط ع ع م ل ه إ لا م ن ث لا ث : أ و ص د ق ة ج ار ي ة م ن ب ع د ه أ و ع ل م ي ن ت ف ع ب ه» م ن و ل د ص ال ح ي د ع و ل ه When a person dies, his deeds will cease except in three cases: from a righteous son who invokes Allah for him, or an ongoing charity after his death, or knowledge that people benefit from. For example, a Hadith states, «إ ن أ ط ي ب م ا أ ك ل الر ج ل م ن ك س ب ه و إ ن و ل د ه م ن ك س ب ه»

4 Verily, the best type of provision that one consumes is from what he himself has earned, and one's offspring are among what he has earned The ongoing charity that one leaves behind, like an endowment, for example, are among the traces of his own actions and deeds. Ex 1 if you put a share in BUILDING A MASJID. Even 100 dhs or 10 dhs or even 1 DHS since u have a share here people praying reading Quran etc you will get a percentage for their deed in this mosque. according to what percentage you put in every moment people go to the mosque you will benefit. Ex 2- planting a TREE. Having fruits. Flowers, giving shade etc You benefit from anyone eating the fruits, even the flowers beautifying the tree when people admire it, for oxygen, shade given to animal people etc. This is SADAQA JAARIYA EX 3- the KNOWLEDGE Even your notebook which you use in class. if you intend recording and taking down your note PURELY for Allah S SAKE then it WILL remain even after you die.the INTENTION is very important though That s why ANYTHING linked to Acquiring Knowledge is NEVER in vain WE dotn even need to take steps to preserve it Allah WILL our intention it PURELY FOR HIM and we perfect it for this sake. After death we will benefit from this Even the great sheikhs we study from today did their notes for their few students. But imagine so many years after they have passed away HOW MANY people benefit Subhanallah!! Allah put barakah because theydid it for His sake. So Allah accepts FROM ALL OF US. we don t have to be scholar. We just need IKHLAAS when doing this. Imam malik when he was writing his Hadith people around him said why are you writing Hadith when so many others are writing Hadith as well. But subhnallah out of the people of his time only HIS BOOK is benefiting MANY!! In our heart we should not be writing for people to take it and benefit in the future but our intention should be FOR Allah S SAKE.Then it will become ongoing TILL THE DAY OF JUDGEMENT. Subhanallah Even when you ADVICE someone SINCERELY from your heart about small things you learn will benefit you till the DOJ May all our a maal (deeds) be like this AMEEN Ali ibn thalib said

5 Knowledge guards us form fitnah and sins and all faults in LIFE and even on the DOJ. But now look at the priority we give when allocating TIME for KNOWLEDGE SEEKING. Just a little free time. Whereas People think about material things MORE THAN knowledge. They are striving harder to earn than seek knowledge. We should earn to LIVE but notice our priority Ex 4 RIGHTEOUS CHILDREN My child if I take care to make him pious then whatever the child does it will be on my balance COS I STRIVED FOR it. many reflections from this ayat 1 everyone is responsible for their own burdens (sins). EXCEPT if YOU lead someone to do bad 2. you get good deeds if YOU earn or strive for it. EXCEPT you will lose what you earned when YOU are unjust or take away someone elses right. 3. work good deeds which are Continuous Charity. even after YOUR death it will carry on SADAQA JAARIYAA a. contribute to mosque or a well or trees b. acquiring knowledge c. children who are righteous 4. only certain things benefit people after death other than sadaqa jaariyaa. These are mentioned in the sunnah. Not bidaah. Ulama also said from this verse you understand CLEARLY what these are. Ex- some people AFTER a person dies reads QURAN thinking dead people take this. but THIS WILL NOT HAPPEN V 38 says you take ONLY what you strive for A DEAD PERSON will only take DUA. Don t ever underestimate the power of dua. It is really MIRACULOUS. And when you make DUA both the dead person and even You take reward for it SADAQA (charity) can also go to the dead person if you do it on behalf of him/her UMRAH. Here u cannot do ONLY tawaaf for a dead person. But a full umrah. or HAJJ (only one obligatory HAJJ) benefits the dead after death. Even SAUM (fasting) but WAAJIB saum (obligatory fasts). Ex- someone died without fasting TWO days in ramadhan. The children can FAST on their behalf. BUT this is valid ONLY for obligatory fasts. And it cannot be guesswork. you need to know exactly.. This is important to know because people try to give SALAAT AND QURAN to dead people. And it s sad because they are wasting their time doing a BIDAAH which is not even accepted by Allah. And in this time they can be doing something to save themselves. This means the DEAD will not benefit from striving of another person except from what the SUNNAH says we are allowed to benefit them with And remember we are not dealing with a HUMAN BEING but we are dealing with ALLAH the one KAAMIL US SIFAAT with perfect attributes. The one who is KAREEM. When u ask HIM, Allah will give you.

6 Abud-Darda' (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) said, "The supplication of a Muslim for his (Muslim) brother in his absence will certainly be answered. Everytime he makes a supplication for good for his brother, the angel appointed for this particular task says: `A meen! May it be for you, too'.'' [Muslim 1495] Even in salat we say in the TASHAHHUD ASSALAAMU 'ALAYNAA wa 'alaa 'ibaadillaahis-saaliheen Peace be upon us and upon the righteous slaves of Allah We are making dua to Allah to protect ALL HIS RIGHTEOUS SLAVES from harm. When you make this (with understanding) you will also benefit Allah gives BI GHAIRI HISAAB. و أ ن * / ۥ وف ر ى.40 V And that his deeds will be seen, (40) You will SEE your striving on the Day of Judgement و ف ر ى It will be SEEN this is in the passive tense. This means in the FUTURE. Seen by the person who earned it and also by other people In one way this is good but in another way not so good. for GOOD deeds we don t mind others seeing them.but BAD DEEDS we don t want others to see them. MAY Allah CONCEAL THE SINS ameen. For A BELIEVER Allah will conceal them. But for a disbeliever their sins will be EXPOSED in front of EVERYONE. Here in DUNIYA when we are exposed we feel so shy right. but how much worse is exposure in the Day of Judgement. Think of how this will be. So we will stop here Inshallah to be continued next week

7 Subhaanaka Allaahumma wa bihamdika, 'ash-hadu 'an laa 'ilaaha 'illaa 'Anta, 'astaghfiruka wa 'atoobu 'ilayka. Glory is to You, O Allah, and praise is to You. I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but You. I seek Your forgiveness and repent to You.
