1 Jewels from Surah Al Qamar [Class#6] 10 th November 2012 Lecture by Sister Eman al Obaid Surat al Qamar is mostly about the punishment. Why? Qamar is a big sign and people belied the Quraysh belied Prophet Muhammad ṣallallahu alayhi wa sallam and the biggest sign. When the deny they deserve the punishment 2 ways to know Allah subhana wa ta'ala - through His blessing - His punishment and anger This includes the hope and fear, and the love of Allah subhana wa ta'ala. 2 prophets - Nur alaihi as-salaam - people of Aad 2 ayats repeated between each story. - the punishment and warning - all the warnings are in the Qur an And how [severe] were My punishment and warning. And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember? Ayah 23 The Thamud were a famous tribe in the north of the Arabian peninsula. Karama Miracles Prophet Muhammad ṣallallahu alayhi wa sallam had more and greater miracles. Miracles after the time of Prophet Muhammad ṣallallahu alayhi wa sallam, from the righteous people were from Prophet Muhammad ṣallallahu alayhi wa sallam, the messenger that they followed. A karama that came to one person after Prophet Muhammad ṣallallahu alayhi wa sallam Musa alaihi as-salaam miracle of the stick. He struck the sea with the stick and the sea split into two parts. 1

2 Something more stranger than this was granted to someone after Prophet Muhammad ṣallallahu alayhi wa sallam. What and for whom? Al ala al Hadramih in a battle there was some water between them and the enemy. Allah subhana wa ta'ala allowed their horses to walk on the water. This miracle is a sign of the truthfulness of Prophet Muhammad ṣallallahu alayhi wa sallam. Are there signs happening now? Yes, but we have lots of questions. Previously when a righteous person had a miracle, the people started to worship them. The righteous shouldn t announce that they had a karama. The people will be divided into two groups: - They will deviate elevate and worship the person - They will make fun of the person You don t how people s tawheed will react it can be easily spoiled. You don t want to make a fitnah for the people. Karama happened more in the time of the Sabireen than in the time of the Sahabah the Sabireen needed the karamah. Iman and taqwa is our goal not the karama. Karama is from Allah subhana wa ta'ala s mercy and hikmah. Everything in front of us is a miracle creation is a miracle. The Thamud denied Allah subhana wa ta'ala s warnings what problem did they have? It is not the message that they have a problem with. People of Nur belied Nur People of Aad very arrogant Ayah 24 They have a problem with the carrier of the message the messenger. - Today people forget the message and point the finger at the messenger. People will come and go don t focus on the people but focus on the message. Don t connect the religion to the people or you will follow whatever the people do. - Don t look at people, look at Allah subhana wa ta'ala. After Prophet Muhammad ṣallallahu alayhi wa sallam passed away so many people wanted to disbelieve, they couldn t believe Prophet Muhammad ṣallallahu alayhi wa sallam had passed away. This ayah was revealed before Prophet Muhammad ṣallallahu alayhi wa sallam passed away. Chapter (3) sūrat āl ʿim'rān (The Family of Imrān) 2

3 3:144 Muhammad is not but a messenger. [Other] messengers have passed on before him. So if he was to die or be killed, would you turn back on your heels [to unbelief]? And he who turns back on his heels will never harm Allah at all; but Allah will reward the grateful. Religion is perfect by itself so take the message. Most of the previous nations had a problem with the messenger not with the message. - you are responsible for the religion you don t want people to say anything bad because of your behavior. People will see people s behavior and blame Islam. Ayah 24 is a question they have 4 doubts about the Messenger. 1. a human being, basher = skin, human beings have a skin. They want a messenger to be like an angel. 2. among us. They want someone different to them. 3. one why only one person and not a group or with supporters. we should follow him? Don t reject straight away. Even if someone is bad you should at least listen this is the manners. Before you make a judgment, before you argue, before you say anything let people say what they want to say. People deny and disbelieve because of the people, not because of the message. Go to the source, it will show you the way. If you change your ibadah according to the people you will change yourself. When following what Allah subhana wa ta'ala wants from you, you are one person, you have an identity. Mustafa the Messengers and Prophets are the best, the chosen ones, they can carry the message and their hearts are with Allah subhana wa ta'ala. They went through the nurturing. 3

4 Allah subhana wa ta'ala will put you through the training life is teaching you. Allah subhana wa ta'ala nurtures everybody but not everybody will benefit from the nurturing. People don t realize that. Allah subhana wa ta'ala choose the best as Prophets and Messengers. The People of Thamud even accuse themselves if they should follow that messenger they are never happy. They will be drowned in - dalalin - misguidance - wasu urin - misery / madness like a punishment / torture in life. But it is the opposite, you will be guided and saved from the misery. Their statement indicates they are really misguided. 4 th accusation. Ayah 25 They are rejecting him because of their proudness and jealousy. Allah subhana wa ta'ala sent a message to only him and not to all of us. If you want to know the truth you will take the truth from whomever and anybody. 4

5 The truth is very clear you don t have a problem. Even children will show you the truth. If you want to know yourself hear it from your enemies. Jealousy proudness and arrogance can stop people from following the truth. You cannot choose who tells you the message Allah subhana wa ta'ala is the one who guides and knows what suits you. Accept the truth with a good heart sometimes it comes from a way you don t like, from someone you don t like. Has been sent - is a question. People go to people with the same problems as them before the problem came to you, you didn t realize or see the problem around you. You don t like people to know about your past but what happened to the Messengers is all in the Qur an so don t feel ashamed. The end is important the beginning is not always good. Being firm until the end is important people start but they quit, they don t stay firm until the end. The 4 doubts about the messenger are from their mind there is no truth in these doubts - Human being - among us - only one - Their jealousy The message is not important to them for them it is just a random message, just thrown upon them. They are humiliating the messenger with what they have in their hearts. Salih alaihi as-salaam what name did they call him with a liar. He is lying about being a messenger insolent. As if he is above everyone. He is claiming something which he doesn t have. In life you find people are taking the deen as a means for the dunya to fulfill their needs. Your religion should be a goal. You take the means to have the religion. They are accusing Salih alaihi as-salaam of being a liar and ashur. In ayah 26 Allah subhana wa ta'ala answered them. 5

6 Ayah 26 Allah subhana wa ta'ala defends the messengers and prophets. When taking the right path you feel that so many people are against you Allah subhana wa ta'ala will bring you the comfort i.e. give you friends, neighbors, make you busy. tomorrow = Yawm al Qiyamah Let those people say what they want in the near future, very soon they will be shown they are liars and insolent. Every ayat in the Qur an gives you comfort. Yawm al Fazl - The Day of distinguishing the good and the bad Today they are accusing each other. Who is the liar and who is not the liar? Who is the believer and who is not the believer? Who is the sinner and who is righteous? On the Day of Judgment Allah subhana wa ta'ala will decide so don t argue, let it go, don t argue even if you have the truth. One day all this arguments will be solved. Allah subhana wa ta'ala will prove and show the truth on the Day of Judgment. The People of Thamud are heedless and more focused on the dunya. Make your goals higher Na eem al Akhirah Delights of the Akhirah Chapter (32) sūrat l-sajdah (The Prostration) 32:17 And no soul knows what has been hidden for them of comfort for eyes as reward for what they used to do. Allah subhana wa ta'ala made the delights of the Jannah hidden from you. The one who has the least in Paradise will feel rich will have the coolness of the eyes.
