What is the remedy fr nt fllwing ur desires? We have t acquire knwledge knwledge frm the Quran and the Sunnah: T knw abut Allah (swt) His names and attributes The legislatin f Allah (swt) t knw what is halal and haram in the Quran and the Sunnah. We have t knw abut ur gd and bad qualities we all have in-brne qualities. N ne is pure gd and n ne is pure evil, s we have t cnfess this. Desires vercme yur weak pints and cntrls yu frm that angle. Fr example, genersity is a gd character, a persn might be generus as a child, whenever anyne asks him, he gives. But desire can vercme the persn, fr example, he gives whmever he likes and withhlds frm whmever he dislikes, then in this case he is fllwing his desires. Anther example, a persn likes praise frm the peple, s he shines his image in rder t get the praise s he will d gd actins in rder fr the peple t praise him. Allah (swt) will nt leave us whether we have gd r bad qualities. Allah (swt) will make us face trials t shw us are we fllwing ur desires r what Allah (swt) is please with? Everyne will face a test accrding t their character s yu have t be truthful abut this, dn t give a blind eye. Practice taqwa: It is based n belief in Allah (swt) and the Judgement Day yu are remembering it all the time because yu knw that ne day yu will be meeting Allah (swt). If a persn is mutaqee and fears Allah (swt), then he will be watchful f his actins. He will ask himself fr whse sake am I ding this? Everything situatin he ges thrugh, he remembers the akhira this scene is always in frnt f his eyes, subhan Allah. If a persn is always remembering the akhira then he is always ppsing his desire and accepting the truth, subhan Allah. Page 1

Hw t becme mutaqee? ال م )١( ذ ٲل ك ٱلڪ ت ب ل ر ي ب ف يه ى لل قت ي )٢( ٱلقذ ي ي ؤ ن و ب ٱل غ ي ب و ي ي و ٱل قص و ة و ق ا ( :1-5 Surah Al Baqarah ر ز ق ن ه م ي نف و )٣( و ٱلقذ ي ي ؤ ن و ب ا أ نز ل إ ل ي ك و ا أ نز ل ق ب ك و ب ٱ ل خ ر ة م ي وق ن و )٤( أ و ل ٮ ك ع ى ى ل قر لبه م و أ و ل ٮ ك (Alif-Lâm-Mîm. [These letters are ne f the miracles f the Qur'ân and nne but Allâh ( م ٱل ف ح و ٥( ) (Alne) knws their meanings] (1) This is the Bk (the Qur'ân), wheref there is n dubt, a guidance t thse wh are Al-Muttaqûn [the pius and righteus persns wh fear Allâh much (abstain frm all kinds f sins and evil deeds which He has frbidden) and lve Allâh much (perfrm all kinds f gd deeds which He has rdained)]. (2) Wh believe in the Ghaib and perfrm As-Salât (Iqâmat-as-Salât), and spend ut f what we have prvided fr them. (3) And wh believe in (the Qurân and the Sunnah) which has been sent dwn (revealed) t yu (Muhammad Peace be upn him ) and in that which we sent dwn befre [the Taurât (Trah) and the Injeel (Gspel), etc.] and they believe with certainty in the Hereafter. (4) They are n (true) guidance frm their Lrd, and they are the successful. (5)) They believe in the unseen: and the greatest unseen is Allah (swt), n ne can fully cmprehend the attributes f Allah (swt), but we can see sme impacts f His attributes in the duniya His mercy, His knwledge, etc. Knwing Allah (swt) will make a persn t refer every mment f his life t the attributes f Allah (swt). He will say Allah (swt) was gracius with me, He was merciful t me here, subhan Allah. They establish the prayer: ask yurself hw is yur salat? Are yu praying n time, are yu fulfilling the cnditins /pillars f the salat? Are yu ffering it with submissiveness and khushu? They spend ut f what Allah (swt) has granted them bth bligatry and vluntary They believe in the riginal scriptures and the Quran They believe in the Day f Judgement when they will meet Allah (swt) this will make them fearful f Allah (swt). It is imprtant t believe that Allah (swt) is watchful ver every persn, He knws what is established in every heart f every individual. N ne can deceive Allah (swt) every situatin yu g thrugh, yu are made fr this trial, d nt blame ther peple. There are peple wh are ding actins f the peple f paradise, but he will die with a bad end, we ask Allah (swt) fr the well-being. Ameen. Why? Because Allah (swt) knws what was in his heart he had malice in his heart, but what shwing he liked the peple. He had dubts in his heart, but shwed he was a believer. He never tried t purify himself, subhan Allah. Yu have t knw that whatever is established in the hearts f the peple will be revealed in this life. Therefre when yu g thrugh any trial leave the peple aside and fcus n yur heart. Yu are meant fr this trial and n ne else, subhan Allah. Allah (swt) will test ur taqwa Page 2

3 بسم هللا الرحمن الرحيم Example: A wman is keeping the relatin with her kith and kin, she greets them and gifts them, but they dn t even greet her and ignre her. If she says why d I bther, I will cut the relatin because they ffended me, then that is fllwing her desire. But if she cntinues t keep the relatin with them regardless f what they d t her, then that is taqwa. إ قن ا ن ط ع ك م ل و ج ه ٱ ق لل ل ن ر ي نك م ج ز ا ىء و ل ش ك و ىرا )٩( إ قنا ن خ اف قر لبن ا ي و ى ا ع ب و ىسا ق ط ر ي ىرا ( :9-10 Surah Al Insan ) ١١( ) ((Saying): "We feed yu seeking Allâh's Cuntenance nly. We wish fr n reward, nr thanks frm yu. (9) "Verily, We fear frm ur Lrd a Day, hard and distressful, that will make the faces lk hrrible (frm extreme dislike t it)." (10)) They are nt waiting t hear any wrds f recmpense, they d nt even want t hear thank yu, jazaki Allah khair. What d they say? We are afraid f a distressful Day, they remember the akhira. A mutaqee is smene wh peple are ffending, but he will cntinue t d gd fr the sake f Allah (swt). Fr example, if a husband is nt giving his rights t his wife, will the wife divrce him? N, but she will fear Allah (swt) and the Day f Judgement, and she will ask fr her rights frm Allah (swt) and yu will see what The King will give her in this life, befre the next, subhan Allah. The situatins will be repeated again and again, why? In rder t purify yur heart and self frm yur desires. Allah (swt) wants t perfect yu in rder t be purified fr paradise. Yu will hear hurtful wrds frm yur parents, spuse, family, etc but will yu be patient, will yu have taqwa? May Allah (swt) make us f the mutaqeen. Ameen. Gd cmpanins Remedy t vercme ur desires This is a great rizq / prvisin frm Allah (swt) the gd cmpanin is the ne wh is reminding yu t be mutaqee and nt fllw yur desires. Ibn Abbas (ra) said d nt sit with peple f the desire fr they cause sicknesses f the heart. Peple f desire will put dubts in yur faith. Fr example, a persn wants t fllw the religin f Allah t d what pleases Him, but he will be surrunded by peple making desire as a gd, these peple are especially thse clse t him like spuse, and children. ي أ ي ہ ا ٱلقذ ي ء ا ن و ا إ ق أ ز و ٲج ك م و أ و ل ڪ م ع ىوا لقڪ م ف ٱح ذ ر و م و إ ( :14 The Quran says in Surah At Taghabun O) yu wh believe! Verily, amng yur wives and yur children ) ت ع ف وا و ت ص ف ح و ا و ت غ ف ر وا ف إ ق ٱ ق لل غ ف ور قرح يم are yur enemies (wh may stp yu frm the bedience f Allâh), therefre beware f them! But if yu pardn (them) and verlk, and frgive (their faults), then verily, Allâh is Oft-Frgiving, Mst Merciful) They are enemies t yu, why? Because they are preventing yu frm fllwing the deen. A wife may want t be gd, but the husband wants t deviate her, he will tell her t remve the hijab, niqab, subhan Allah. Yu have t knw this is a big test fr yur taqwa, will yu stay firm and shw patience r fllw the desires arund yu? Subhan Allah. Page 3

4 بسم هللا الرحمن الرحيم Thse wh are clse t us, may cause fitna fr us but yu must shw patience and never despair frm Allah s mercy, because this situatin may be prlnged, it may take years, s yu need t be patient. Or yu may give up and fllw yur desires, and knw that yur rizq is with Allah (swt) and n ne else He will feed yu, He will clthe yu, He will shelter yu. Evil cmpanins: Yu might have been guided, but had friends frm befre yur guidance, yu need t avid assciating with them because they will cause yu t fllw yur desires r their desires. They will say why are yu ding this, etc. وع أبي ريرة رضي هللا عنه أ النبي ص ى هللا ع يه وس م قال: " الرجل ع ى ي خ ي ه ف ينظر ( Hadith: (Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reprted: I heard the (أح كم يخالل". Prphet (ﷺ) saying, "Man fllws his friend's religin, yu shuld be careful wh yu take fr friends".) At Tirmidhi Bk 1, Hadith 367 Let everyne lk whm he is befriending humans are naturally dispsed t cpy whm they accmpany when yu spend a lng time with smene, yu will talk, behave, and think the same way. If yu are accmpanying peple f knwledge, yu will be keen t seek knwledge, if yu are accmpanying peple f the bida a, yu will d the bida a. If yu are accmpanying peple f desire, yu will fllw yur desire. If yu have a gd cmpanin, then remain steadfast with them, and yu will be cmpanins in paradise. May Allah (swt) grant us the gd cmpanins and paradise. Ameen. Why are we afflicted with such peple? Because this duniya is the place fr trials. Never think that when yu finish with ne prblem, that yu will be at rest. Never let the shaitan t deceive yu. Fr example, yu g and divrce and think yu will have peace f mind, and then n sner will yu find anther trial, and anther until the time f death. Yu must remember t always think gd abut Allah (swt). The Prphet (pbuh) said the best struggle is the struggle against yurself and desires. Yu are nt cmmanded t change the peple, Allah (swt) is the One Wh changes them. Yu can nly shw, but the guidance is in Allah s hands, yu cannt frce the peple. We are afflicted with peple t shw ur truthfulness. Self-Reckning Remedy t vercme ur desires Self-reckning is befre and after yur actins befre ding smething, what is yur intentin? Will ding it r leaving it be gd and pleasing t Allah (swt)? After ding the actin, ne needs t take accunt: The bligatry acts: meaning duties twards Allah (swt) and duties twards the peple. Duties t Allah (swt) include prayer, hajj, hijab duties t the peple includes parents, relatives, spuse. If yu sees any shrtcmings r defects in these duties, then yu need t rectify it. Page 4

5 بسم هللا الرحمن الرحيم Prhibited matters: if yu did smething prhibited by Allah (swt), then hw d yu amend it? By repenting immediately t Allah (swt), and fllw the bad with gd deed, yu need t d abundant gd deeds. Heedlessness: take yurself t accunt abut yur heedlessness. Maybe 10 years ag yu were heedless f the remembrance f Allah, and nw yu are guided, hw will yu amend the situatin? G back my remembering Allah (swt), d gd deeds turn back t Allah (swt). Tngue, ears, eyes, hands, feet: what have yu given and taken, yur speech, what have yu heard? It is imprtant t take these int accunt. ي أ ي ہ ا ٱلقذ ي ء ا ن و ا ٱ قت وا ٱ ق لل و لت نظ ر ن فس ق ا ق ق ت ل غ و ٱ قت وا ٱ ق لل إ ق ٱ ق لل خ ب ي ر ( :18 Surah Al Hashr (O yu wh believe! Fear Allâh and keep yur duty t Him. And let (ب ا ت ع و every persn lk t what he has sent frth fr the tmrrw, and fear Allâh. Verily, Allâh is All-Aware f what yu d) the schlars said a persn needs t take accunt f their deeds, why did he say that, why did he g t that place, why did he hear that, fr whse sake did he d that? Refrmatin f the heart is achieved by self-reckning and crruptin f the heart is achieved by neglecting the self-reckning, subhan Allah. Invcatin Remedy t vercme ur desires (ال قه قم إ لني أ س أ ل ك ع ى ا ن اف ىعا و ر ز ىقا ط لي ىبا و ع لى ت قبلى ( (swt): Invke Allah (swt), especially after fajr ask Allah (Allahumma inni as aluka ilman nafi an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa amalan mutaqabbalan (O Allah, I ask Yu fr beneficial knwledge, gdly prvisin and acceptable deeds) The best prvisin after faith is t have a gd cmpanin, ask Allah (swt) t grant yu a blessed cmpanin. Dua a: ( قم إ لني أ س أ ل ك ال ه و الت ى و ال ع ف ا ف و ال غ ن ى (ال قه O) Allah, indeed, I ask Yu fr guidance, piety, chastity, and sufficiency (Allahumma Inni As alukal-huda Wat-Tuqa, Wal-Afafa Wal-Ghina) Yu dn t want t be deceived by the duniya because its enjyment is perishing. Ntice the impact f ppsing the desire Remedy t vercme ur desires When yu see the impact f ppsing f yur desires, then it will encurage yu t ppse yur desires, subhan Allah. What are the impacts? Expansin f the heart, the persn feels his heart is at rest, maybe the peple are upset, but he will be at peace because he is pleasing Allah (swt), subhan Allah. Attain dignity and hnr with Allah (swt) ف أ ق ا ط غ ى )٣٣( و ء اث ر ٱل ح ي و ة ٱل ني ا )٣٣( ف إ ق ٱل ج ح يم ى ٱل أ و )٣٩( و أ ق ا ( :37-41 Surah An Naziat خ اف ام ر لبه ۦ و ن ه ى ٱل قنف س ع ٱل ه و )٤١( ف إ ق ٱلج قنة ى ٱل أ و )٤١ ) ) (Then, fr him wh transgressed all bunds (in disbelief, ppressin and evil deeds f disbedience t Allâh). (37) And preferred the life f this wrld (by fllwing his evil desires and lusts), (38) Verily, his abde will be Hell-fire; (39) But as fr him wh feared standing befre his Lrd, and restrained himself frm impure evil desires, and lusts. (40) Verily, Paradise will be his abde. (41)) Page 5

6 بسم هللا الرحمن الرحيم Fr example, she hears the adhaan, but she cntinues t speak t her friend n the phne, subhan Allah. She has preferred the duniya ver the akhira. Or he knws his jb deals with usury, but he desn t want t quit his jb because f the big salary, he desn t want the jb with the lwer salary, s he is preferring the duniya ver the akhira. They are nt caring what Allah (swt) wants and what pleases Him, subhan Allah, what is the cnsequence? Hellfire as an abde. On the ther hand, the ne wh feared standing in frnt f Allah (swt). Fr example, a man wned a restaturant that was selling alchl, music etc he repented t Allah (swt) and remved the wine, etc, his incme went dwn, but that didn t matter t him because he wants t be saved n the Day f Judgment when he stands in frnt f Allah (swt) he chse the akhira ver the duniya. Or a lady leaves her jb, she might have less, but she fears standing in frnt f Allah (swt) she chse the akhira ver the duniya, what is their reward? Paradise. We ask Allah (swt) t grant us paradise. Ameen. May Allah (swt) increase us in faith and knwledge, make us f the mutaqeen, and grant us paradise. Ameen. This is the end f the series may Allah (swt) accept frm all. Ameen. Page 6
