11 MUSIC IN WORSHIP Today s final hymn, The Spirit Sends Us Forth to Serve, was written by Delores Dufner in She claims she wanted to write a closing hymn to energize and empower the assembly to live the gospel during the week ahead. In singing the hymn, we seek to scatter into the world to bring glad tidings and loving deeds to the poor, those who mourn, the burdened, the hopeless, and the blind. A member of St. Benedict s Monastery in St. Joseph, Minnesota, Sister Delores Dufner holds master s degrees in liturgical music and liturgical studies. She is a church musician and one of the best known hymn writers today. Her hymns have a broad ecumenical appeal, and more than 20 publishers have included her texts in their hymnals.
