Michael Sechler tbhs1859@yahoo.com Next Meeting: Tuesday, March 13th at 7:00 pm in the Community Hall. Throughout the winter months we have received multiple donations of items that will be put on display in the train station. The train station will be open to the public again this year for the Turbotville Area Community Carnival the week of June 4th through the 9th. If you have items you wish to donate, place on loan to be displayed, or photographs and papers that we can copy to include in our archives, please let us know. Once spring arrives, we will be taking a good look at the exterior of the train station. Our focus will be on sanding, glazing, and painting the window sashes, and providing any touch ups needed to the entire exterior paint or stain. The winter months have been especially hard on the Turbutville sign on the west end of the building, so we will be touching up that sign to make it look new again. We are actively looking into having a custom canopy made to cover the front freight dock which will allow some weather-proof covering for the bands that play during the carnival week. And, will provide the same coverage for the freight dock for future events in the park as well. Interested townspeople and volunteers are always welcome to come to any meetings and help us preserve our town s history, either by assisting with the maintenance and upkeep to the train station, or doing historical research and archiving of documents, photos, and items donated to the heritage society. And as always, YOUR input is always welcome for fund raising ideas, additional events we could host at the train station, etc. In the meantime, check out our fundraising items on including the Turbotville afghans, yardsticks, flyswatters, history books, t-shirts, limited edition train station prints by Raymond Weaver, Milton Car Works books, Turbotville National Bank shelf sitter wooden blocks, and the history book series from Robert Swope. We have all items on hand except large t-shirts, which are sold out. We are also selling RADA cutlery and have some different knives and accessories already on hand including their most popular paring knife, tomato slicer, Handi-Stir, and knife sharpener. If there are any items you would like, please contact us at the phone number above. PROCLAMATION NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Borough of Turbotville recognize the month of April, 2017 as "Pennsylvania 811 Safe Digging Month" and encourage all excavators and homeowners to dial at least three business days in advance of an excavation project, including even small projects such as planting a tree, installing a mailbox post, building a deck or swimming pool or replacing a driveway, in order to avoid injury, protect the environment, prevent millions of dollars in damages and to remind excavators that three business days' notice is the law for safe digging. Turbotville Borough is looking for AN EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT COORDINATOR The emergency management coordinator is the vital ingredient in the development of an effective emergency program. The emergency management coordinator has the responsibility for coordinating all the components of the emergency management system in the jurisdiction. These components consist of fire and police, emergency medical services, public works, volunteers, and other groups contributing to the management of emergencies. The coordinator must have the respect of the various emergency response groups in the community and must be capable of rallying the total resources of the community in a coordinated, concerted effort to bring about an effective community response to an emergency. The person selected must have both planning and training abilities.
5 A little job description: Prepares and maintains an EOP for the municipality subject to the direction of the elected officials; reviews and updates as required. Develop and keep current emergency response checklists appropriate for the emergency needs and resources of the community. Maintains coordination with the county EMA, and provides prompt information in emergencies, as available. Coordinate with the county EMA, identifies hazards and vulnerabilities that may affect the municipality; recommend mitigation measures to reduce disaster effects; participates in the County Hazard Mitigation Team and assists in predisaster mitigation planning and grant submission efforts. If you or know of someone that is interested in this position, please contact Diane at the Borough Office. More information can be obtained from her also. Winter Weather Causing Early Pothole Outbreak Rep. Lynda Schlegel Culver Due to the extreme fluctuations in temperatures this winter, coupled with an active snow season, PennDOT is reporting an early outbreak of potholes. Motorists can report potholes and other roadway concerns on state roads by calling FIX-ROAD or visiting and clicking on Submit Roadway Feedback. When reporting a pothole, be as specific as possible as to pothole locations or other maintenance concerns such as deer removal or signing issues. For state routes, report the county, municipality, street name and route number, or the state route (SR) number that can be found on small black and white signs posted along state roadways. Also provide a description of any familiar landmarks that will help PennDOT locate the problem area. A pothole develops when water seeps below the road through small cracks in the pavement surface. As the water repeatedly freezes and thaws due to temperature fluctuations, a cavity forms below the surface and larger cracks develop, which destroys the strength of the pavement. Student Art Open House Scheduled for March 22 nd. The annual Student Art Open House is being held on March 22, from 4-6:30 p.m., at our district office in Sunbury, located at 106 Arch St. Residents of the 108th District are invited to attend this open house where we will feature and recognize artwork by students from area schools and art centers. If you have a child that is interested in submitting art work to be displayed at this event, please call my office at your earliest convenience. We have so much young talent in our area, and this is just one way we can show our appreciation for their creativity. My staff and I will be available at this open house to assist with any state-related issues. Refreshments will be prepared and served by SUN Area Technical Institute Food Service programs. We thank Service 1st Credit Union for sponsoring this year s event.
