TIRELESS DISIPLESHIP The stories we ve been hearing these weeks come from the very first chapter of Mark, and they show us the public ministry of Jesus in its infancy. Today s account shows some of the strain or adjustment of his new life of preaching the reign of God, healing the sick, and casting out demons. Notice that after sunset, when darkness ended the workday, people brought the sick and possessed to Jesus. The following day he rose before dawn to get away by himself to pray, but to no avail. Simon Peter and the others don t just look for him, they pursue him, filled with the fervor that his ministry has incited. With the self-sacrificing example he gave until the end of his earthly life, he tells his followers that this is his whole purpose. Through Mark, he is also telling the early church, and he is telling us, that this is our purpose, our vocation: to be tireless in our pursuit of proclaiming the Good News, and in bringing the healing, reconciling touch of hrist to the world. opyright J. 4 Parish News Since ultrasound machines are such an essential tool in helping mothers with a crisis pregnancy to choose life, the St. Mark s Knights of olumbus, ouncil #8147, recently led a successful effort to obtain a new ultrasound machine for the Woman s New Life enter (WNL) in Baton Rouge. On Friday, January 12, 2018, the ouncil delivered two checks totaling $29, to the WNL, enabling them to purchase an ultrasound machine through the Knights of olumbus Ultrasound Initiative program. The ouncil was able to raise the necessary funds with help from the St. Mark parishioners who contributed to our ouncil s Baby Bottle fundraiser. Funds were also provided by several other K of ouncils in the Diocese of Baton Rouge, especially the St. Louis King of France ouncil #9016 who made the largest single contribution to this effort. Through the Ultrasound Initiative, when a State or local ouncil raises 50% of the cost of an ultrasound machine, the K of Supreme ouncil will provide the other 50% of the cost to complete funding for purchase of an ultrasound machine that will help a risis Pregnancy enter to provide for the health of mothers and their unborn children. Once again, great thanks to the wonderful parishioners of St. Mark who always support our local Knights of olumbus council. St. Mark atholic hurch The Men s lub will be hosting the Friday Lenten Meals this year. They will begin on Friday, the February 16 th and will continue every Friday during Lent. Meals will be $10 each and will be served from 5-6:30. It will include fried fish & shrimp, coleslaw, bread, and dessert. Tickets can be purchased ahead of time from any Men s club member or the parish office. Meals may be picked up in the Activity enter between 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm
