1 Katherine House is a small Christian conference centre. It is owned and run by the Faithful Companions of Jesus (FCJ), an international Congregation of Catholic Sisters, Registered Charity No We aim to provide: A hospitable meeting place for people of all faiths and none A quiet space for prayer and reflection, for individuals and groups A programme of events, including retreats, quiet days and short conferences A place where people can run their own residential or day events Information for House Events Half an hour before the start of an event we will have coffee brewing and you can help yourself to tea, coffee and biscuits. For day events, please bring a packed lunch and eat together in our dining room. The suggested donation for attending an event is usually 5 (for morning/ afternoon/evening sessions) or 15 (all-day). Cost should not stop you attending - please give what you can afford. Please book in advance. We need to know numbers so we can prepare for you. This also means you avoid disappointment if an event is full, and it ensures we have your details should an event need to be cancelled for any reason. If there are no bookings, an event will not go ahead. You are welcome to ring on the day to see if a late booking is possible, but we can t guarantee it. Singleton Road runs between the A56 (Bury New Road) and the A665 (Bury Old Road), just south of the border between Salford and Prestwich. Limited parking in the grounds, but no parking restrictions on Singleton Rd. Public Transport Buses along Bury New Road stop at Moor Lane (2 mins walk from Katherine House). X43 Manchester/Burnley Witchway and X41 Manchester/Blackburn Red Express ; both leave from Chorlton Street (mins walk from Manchester Piccadilly) and stop on Deansgate in Manchester city centre ( mins from Manchester Victoria). 6 & leave from Manchester Victoria Station or Shudehill Bus station to Bury. 2 Lent Course days in Lent 201 7pm till pm is a lent course based on the popular film The Greatest Showman. It uses the film to start discussion about the themes of hope, redemption and new life Each session will include an extract from the film, group discussion, biblical reflection and prayer 12th ch A Million Dreams exploring what liberation and hope might look like for an outsider in the world 1th ch Come Alive exploring how the family of faith can bring hope and purpose th ch Rewrite the Stars asks what forms of resistance can be placed in the way of salvation 2nd il Never Enough questions the temptations of false fulfilment that can lead us to betrayal th il The Greatest Show shows how redemption is found when we discover the circus is our home Plus an opportunity to see the film The Greatest Showman, 5th ch 7 - pm As in previous years, ie Pattison will chair the course. We will be following the book '' written by our friend Rachel Mann, who is a wonderful writer Last day of the month 11:00am - 12:00 noon We host a Group. Each session comprises a short reading, some reflective music and twenty minutes silent meditation, concluding with a little music and a brief reading. Throughout our studies we see the continuity of the scriptures, trying to appreciate the people of faith who have passed them on to us and looking at how we can live the significance of that word to us today in our modern world. Truth Trust Thanksgiving Come and explore these themes through Scripture, where do they come from? Discuss and share with others, discover deeper meanings in your own life. Sr Teresa Brittain is a member of the Congregation of Our Lady of Sion and has a passion for the Word of God and Jewish Christian relations. Working with ie Pattison, director of Katherine House 10 Days Etty Hillesum, a Voice of Freedom & Hope day, : 3: Etty Hillesum, a remarkable Jewish woman, has become an insightful, profound and inspirational voice through her diaries, which were published in the 10s. Determined to face the inner landscape of her own troubled mind, Etty also refused to escape an outer landscape dominated by Nazi oppression in occupied Holland. Etty was only 2 years old when she was killed in Auschwitz. The day will explore the life, thought and spirituality of Etty Hillesum and will include presentation, enacted monologues, discussion, reflection, stillness and prayer. Donna Worthington is an experienced retreat giver and worked at the ecumenical Tabor Retreat Centre in Preston, Lancashire. Donna studied Theology and is trained in Ignatian spiritual direction. She has written various plays including Through The Leaves of The Green Tree, which she specially wrote to celebrate the anniversary of Etty Hillesum s birth in 114. The Art of the Sacred under Threat: persecution, destruction, resurrection urday, ch : 3: A study day looking at the power of certain sacred images to survive periods of crisis, persecution and destruction throughout the centuries. Exploring Icons of the Orthodox Church. y Beal is an art historian and previously a curator at the Government Art Collection in London. Her interest in the history of icons developed from an interest in the history of Russian film and in countries formerly part of the Soviet Union, where the Russian Orthodox Church plays a highly visible role. 3

Henry tin is an artist, writer and ordained Anglican minister. He has recently written Eavesdropping as a book for Lent. Copies will be available for sale.
