1 RELIGIOUS EDUCATION MATTERS In Year 3 we have been learning about the Scripture passage of Jesus Healing the Paralysed Man. Students have used the PRAY scaffold to write prayers about this Holy event. The PRAY scaffold invites students to praise, repent, ask and say yes to God in prayer. The scripture passage of Jesus Healing the Paralysed Man is of great importance in this Season of Lent as it teaches us many Gospel values which guide us to be like Christ in our daily lives. P - We praise you Lord for forgiving the sins of the Paralysed Man and for all on Earth. R - Please forgive our sins when we have moments when we fall just like the Paralysed Man did. A - Please God we ask you to help others turn to you and be more confident just like you helped the Paralysed Man. Y - We want to be able to say yes to you at all times and be inspired, just like the Paralysed Man was. By Tiana, Jordan and Marvin. P - We praise you God for allowing your Son Jesus to heal the suffering on Earth. R - We are sorry for our failings and turn to you so that we may be forgiven. A - We ask you God to help us in our moments where we are feeling weak and do wrong to others. Y - We say yes to you God and never say no, trying to be the best people we can be. R - We say sorry and forgive others that have done bad actions or bad things to us. A - We ask you God and Jesus for the forgiveness of our sins and all the bad things that have happened just as it happened when the teachers of the law were talking Blasphemy in the Scripture. 4 MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL Open Day It was exciting to see so many families visit our school on Monday for our first ever Open Day. The parents were very impressed with our facilities and the learning that they witnessed in every class. The highlight was the Year 6 students performing during Band class. We are very blessed to be able to have all children in Years 4 to 6 have the opportunity to learn an instrument at no additional charge to families. I sincerely wish to thank Mrs Valore (Leonardo and Caterina) for decorating the school with colourful balloons and to Mrs Burke ( Emily and Olivia ) and Mrs Desmond, Grandmother of Tyrell Firmin for cooking an awesome BBQ for our visiting families. I am always so humbled by the generosity of our families. Just a reminder that we are in our enrolment period. Families who wish to enrol their child in 2019 or who have friends and family who would like to join our community this year, are invited to collect an enrolment package from the school office or from our website. Kindergarten 2019 Interviews will begin after Easter. Cross Country and Activities Day It was another fantastic day of positive school spirit and great sportsmanship as our children demonstrated their stamina in running either 2km or 3km in our annual Cross Country trials. The children who are able to meet the time criteria will participate at the Diocesan Cross Country event on the 1st of May at Eastern Creek. Following our Cross Country events, all children participated in some fun activities either at the park or back at school. I wish to thank the many parents who joined us on this day to either participate or cheer on our great athletes. Special thanks to Miss Kehris for coordinating the events and the teachers for their continued support and great encouragement and dedication to our students. 5 MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL CONT D Holy Week Celebration As we journey closer to the cross, I invite our families to join us for our Holy Thursday Journey to the Cross reflection. As a faith community we will remember the journey of Jesus as he walked and stumbled carrying his cross to Calvary. Our reflection will begin at 2pm in the school hall. School will be closed on Good Friday- 30 th of March and Monday the 2nd of April. The children return to school on Tuesday the 3 rd of April. Parents are invited to join us on Tuesday the 3rd of April to celebrate the Resurrection of Christ Jesus. The prayer experience will take place at 9.15 in the parish hall. This year school holidays begin on Monday the 16 th of April. Children return to school for two weeks following the Easter long weekend before school holidays begin. Whole School Assembly Our next whole school assembly will take place on Friday the 6 th of April. Kindergarten, Year 2, 4 and 6 will showcase their learning. We will also congratulate the Principal Award recipients who demonstrate the gospel value of Forgiveness. Please join us. The assembly will begin at 2pm in the Parish Hall. Evacuation Drill On Tuesday the 27 th of March the school will be having an evacuation drill. If you live close to the school and you hear the evacuation siren, please do not be concerned, it is just a drill. In Christ we Live, Love and Learn Page 5

I sincerely wish to thank the parents who have made considerable effort to ensure our children are attending school and are arriving to school on time. I also wish to thank Mrs Rizk, our Attendance Officer for her dedication and commitment, supporting our family s work through some of the challenges parents face in getting their children to school. 10 SPORTS REPORT CROSS COUNTRY Cross Country and Activities Day On Tuesday the 20th of March 2018, Holy Family Primary had their annual Cross Country trial for years 3-6 and activity day for the whole school. Everyone had an enjoyable and active day where they had the opportunity to participate in a number of fitness activities focussing on gross motor development and hand eye coordination. Thank you for all the parents that supported and assisted on the day. Congratulations to all the students that participated in the events. 12 The Premier Reading Challenge is for Kindy to Year 9 students. It commences on the 5 th March and closes on 31 st August. The Challenge aims to encourage a love of reading. It is not a competition but a challenge for each to read and acquire the benefits of reading. Some of the benefits of reading are Mental stimulation Knowledge Memory improvement Better writing skills Certificates will be handed out in December, once received from the Premier. If you would like your child to enter the challenge, please see Mrs Gordon in the library for the registration letter. BOOK CLUB Issue 2 Book club brochures for issue 2 have been delivered to the classrooms. Orders are due back on the 23 rd March. 13 How will you show compassion during Lent? Project Compassion As it is the season of Lent, it important for us to stop and follow in the footsteps of Jesus. As a school community we will be raising money to support Caritas Australia.Caritas Australia is a Catholic agency for international aid development, therefore our money is going to a great cause to help those in need. It would be greatly appreciated if your family can give generously and return the Project Compassion box to school during Holy Week (Week 9) We will also be having a Crazy Sock Day on Tuesday 27th March (Week 9) where students are encouraged to wear crazy socks with their uniform and bring in a gold coin donation. Thank you for your continued support! SCHOOL FEES School Fee Statements have been mailed by the Catholic Education Office. Term 1 school fees are due on the 21st March Please note, that any school fee payment arrangement made in 2017 does not automatically continue. This also includes those families that have automatic payments deducted from Centrelink. Can families that have Centrelink arrangements please check that payments are coming out of your accounts. Please contact the office to make an appointment as soon as possible, if you have difficulty in paying school fees. An appointment will need to be made to discuss this matter with Mrs Baird.
