It was facilitated by Andrea Dean and took place in Bowral, NSW. Andrea titled the retreat Truly our Sister: what Mary can teach us about discipleship and was underpinned by the text Dangerous Memories: A Mosaic of Mary in Scripture, by the excellent theologian Elizabeth Johnson. The retreat provided all the usual benefits that such experiences bring: an opportunity to reconnect, to reorient oneself, to engage with one s fellow principals. As we begin the season of Lent, it also provided space to reflect more deeply on the extraordinary witness that Mary provides in the Gospels to the love of Jesus and the call to discipleship that all of us are called upon to answer. School Community Council Tonight the SCC is holding its open meeting from 6;30pm in the school library. It is a great opportunity to come to the meeting and be engaged with the Council. I would like to take this opportunity to thank and farewell Nikki Bruno, who has served the Council as its Chair for two years and done an amazing job. Nikki has been a great support to me and to the school and I thank her for her service. I would also like to thank Gerard Gough who is also stepping down from the Council after many years of service to the school community. Gerard has been involved either on the School Board, as it was known then, or the School Community Council, since I first began as principal at the school in Again, Gerard has been a great support to me and to the school and I thank him too for his service. Congratulations to Renee Sutton who has taken on the role of Chair of the Council and who will do a wonderful job. A call for nominations to fill the vacant spaces left by Gerard and Nikki will be sent home in the immediate future. Sacrament of Penance Preparations for the Sacrament of Penance continue to progress and this Thursday we are having an adult faith formation evening at 7pm in the library for all parents of students who are receiving the sacrament for the first time this year. On the weekend of March 18 and 19, at the 6pm and 9am Masses respectively, the children who are receiving the Sacrament are attending a commitment Mass, with their families. I thank all parents for their support. General Reflections It has been a very busy start to the term as we enter the second 5 weeks of the term. We have had St Thomas Aquinas Day, 3-Way Conversations, the Swimming carnival and the 5/6 School Camp. Teachers have been very busy writing their goals and setting the course for their professional development for the year. We have had visits from CE personnel including Leonie Anstey, Kaye Lowe and Petra Cole, and as I wrote at the beginning of the newsletter, I have been away for 3 days last week on the principals retreat. I look forward to the second half of the term continuing the great beginning that we have had to the year, and embedding some of the practices and initiatives we have undertaken. Through all the busyness, our vocation remains clear and simple: to love and care for the children the best we can and to teach them to the best of our ability, while also building community and providing rich faith experiences for the children and families. We strive to do this to the best of our ability and we do it in partnership with you, our parents and families, for whose support and good wishes we are very grateful. 6 Hello families, Oshclub is now taking bookings for the Holiday Program in April. We will be operating from the 10th till 13th, 18th till 21st and on the 24th. Book early to aviod dissapintment as we do have to cap for ratio. The flyers are avaible to the front office, online and at the service with details of excursion and theme days. Please note our new opening time for Holiday Program of 7:30am. This week at osh we will be celebrating Canberra Day on Friday! Next week we will look at all things hot air balloon in celebrating the Canberra Balloon Spetacular which is running from the 11th till the 19th March, see for specator information.
