1 Faith active in love Well done, good and faithful servants! Continue reading to see the many ways you share your blessings within this community and around the globe. You are a generous group of people, no doubt because you have experienced Jesus amazing love for you and that love has changed you. You have been forgiven and made new and that has set you off in a new direction to love and serve others as Jesus has loved you and forgiven you. Your life has been transformed by His life and now you are transforming the lives of others by your generosity and faith filled lives. It is not always easy to be kind and generous because our human nature wants to be selfish and consider ourselves first. In her book, ACCIDENTAL SAINTS, Nadia Bolz-Weber observes: "the thing about grace, real grace, is that it stings. It stings because if it's real it means we don't "deserve" it." We don't "deserve" all the love and the blessings we have received from God and yet God's gracious love continues to be poured into our lives and then as we receive that grace, as we let it soak into our lives, it stings and brings tears to our eyes because it is so good and so undeserved. And then sisters and brothers, and then, we turn around and share this same grace with others, we pass onto them what we ourselves have freely received. Thanks be to God! Faith Lutheran Church is active in love. JULY :30 AM Sunday August 7th One 9:30 AM Good Shepherd God's Peace, Pastor Gisele How to Contact Us Office open 9-3 Monday Thursday Pastor Gisele Berninghaus pastorgisele@yahoo.com Dar Schubert, Secretary secretary@faithofmfld.org Beth Behnke-Seper, Director of Music friendshipgrows@hotmail.com Kim Vrana, Youth Director kvrana@charter.net Website faith@faithofmfld.org Mission Statement Another way Faith shares the love of Jesus: sending our young folks to confirmation camp. We had a fantastic time at Waypost camp, June 12-17, thanks to you and thanks be to God! Our mission is to be a community of loving People who spread God s grace by teaching God s word, connecting followers in faith, and serving others.
2 Parish Education & Youth News VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL NEWS!! Following our joint-worship service with Good Shepherd August 7th, Vacation Bible School (VBS) will be August 8-11, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Marshfield. For the busy parents among us, we'll be offering a supper meal at 5:30, followed by a brief daily gathering and then some very cool Bible workshops. Our theme this year is "Egypt - Joseph's Journey from Prison to Palace" - an in-depth study of this somewhat overlooked Biblical giant. VBS this summer is a great way to teach and promote Christian values to our pre-school age thru 5th grade. Check out the promotion materials and sign-up sheets in the Narthex. While preregistration isn't required, it's helpful in planning. We could always use a few people going into grades 7/8 and older (and even WAY older) to help out with teaching, assisting, or cooking the evening meal. I promise it'll be fun! Any questions, please contact Marty Yohn ( or martyrayyohn@gmail.com). FLY News Mission Trip 2016 Nineteen youth and five adults will be leaving the morning of July 23rd for Kansas City, MO. We will make an overnight stop in Des Moines, Iowa worshipping with an ELCA congregation there on Sunday before proceeding to our destination. The group will be returning the evening of Friday, July 29. Watch for pictures and updates on the Faith Lutheran Church Facebook page during the trip and a Youth Service reflecting on the trip in September. In Kansas City, we will partner with local organizations to meet the ongoing needs in this urban community including work at a food shelf, clothing distribution center, soup kitchen and children s program. The Summer 2016 theme for the organization we are working through for this mission trip, YouthWorks, is First Love and this will be the focus of our daily devotions and worship service onsite. We love because God first loved us. Youth attending are: Noah Behling, Caitlyn Christensen, Kyle Grassman, Cole Hanson, Zach Hanson, Ian Haugen, Emma Haugen, Avery Haugen, Max Heller, Aria Rens, Emily Sautebin, Jenna Schneider, Savannah Sickler, Abigail Smith, Megan Smith, Macey Smith, Kendra Tremelling, Kyle Tremelling, and McKinsey Vrana. They will be accompanied by Youth Director Kim Vrana and Adult Leaders Theresa Hanson, Gary Laehn, Dave Smith and Sue Vrana. Please keep this entire group of young adults and their leaders in your thoughts and prayers during this time of service, faith renewal and adventure. FLY continues to recognize the generosity and support of our Faith Lutheran Church family who have made this trip possible. We continue to Rise Up! Circle the day - July 29th A church wide, free will offering, trash to treasure sale is being held at our church to help raise money for a Malawi water well. You can bring your clean, in good repair, gently used items to church on the following days: Sunday July 17 th and then Sunday the 24 th to the 28 th. The 28 th by noon, will be the deadline for you to bring your items. The church garage and basement will be open during and after church on Sundays and during office hours week days. Tables will be set up for different categories such as children, men, women s clothes, household items, tools, etc. Larger items will be outside. We ask that you place your items on or by the table for their category. We will do no pricing. It will be a free will offering. To pull this off we need your help. First we need things for the sale, then we need people to arrange things for the sale and to help the day of the sale. On the 28 th starting no later than 5 p.m. we will arrange the sale. Then the day of the sale we need people to take the offerings and keep the area neat. A sign-up sheet will be in the Narthex. These are the shifts 7 am to 9, 9 to 11, 11 to 1, 1 to 3, 3 to 5 when it ends and to organize what is left. Anything left over will be sent to St. Vincent and/or Goodwill. Questions may be directed to Karen Bohm
