We will hold an opening gathering on Tuesday, July 25 from 7-8:30pm in Trinity Fellowship Hall. During this time we will get acquainted, share a devotional, present the schedule, and discuss tool/material/vehicle/supply needs. The timetable (see below) for Wednesday through Friday will be basically the same each day. Saturday activities will be scheduled as needed. Our activity headquarters will be Trinity Fellowship Hall. 8-8:30am 8:30-9am 9:15am 12:30-1pm 1:15pm 4:30pm 5-6pm Breakfast & Devotional Truck & Car Loading (teams will pick up materials & tools) Depart for job sites Lunch at Trinity Fellowship Hall Return to job sites End work at job sites Dinner at Trinity Fellowship Hall (this time will include cleanup after work, devotions, fellowship and music) It is important to note that even if you cannot physically attend on any of these days, there are still ways to be involved. We are looking for donations of food items and project supplies. Specifically: muffins, bagels, cereal, fruit, cookies, brownies, bottles of water and soft drinks, paint brushes, paint rollers, painters tape, old sheets, and heavy duty garbage bags. Also, if you are part of a group and would like to help out, please consider donating a meal for the workers. All questions about the project and ways to be involved should be directed to Tom and Molly Maxwell. Our Summer Service Week will end with our annual Worship in the Park service being held on Sunday, July 30 at 10am at Heritage Park. The homeowners we serve during the week will be invited to attend with their families. All members are invited to bring their own lawn chairs. Seating is also available on picnic tables for the worship service and for the meal, which will follow. A covered dish contribution to the common meal is requested. Those attending whose last names begin with A-M are asked to bring a side dish or salad. Those whose last names begin with N-Z are asked to bring a dessert. Meat, drinks, plates and silverware will be provided. Please invite a friend to join us for this fun Worship in the Park!

2 PAGE 2 PASTOR S PAGE A COMMUNITY MINDED VISION For even the son of man came not to be served but to serve... Mark 10:45 Our goal as a congregation has always been to make an impact in our community and to bless as many people as possible. McDonald Presbyterian Church is entering an exciting season as we begin to adjust our ministry priorities. Over the past few years we have been working to become a more outward-focused congregation, and there are many steps that we have taken. From mission trips to McFall Fest to an increased emphasis on VBS and children's ministry, we have been doing much to expose more people to a relationship with Jesus Christ that brings both joy and salvation. As a bit of a confession, for the last few years I have looked forward to the fall as a launch point for some new changes and initiatives. While some things would change and improve, most of the ideas would be placed on the back burner as we continued to work very hard at the projects we are so committed to. This year my sense of our next six months is completely different. We have a challenge before us, and we definitely will be taking a different angle on our ministries this fall. Much like our Sunday VBS celebration, we will take some risks and think about our work a little bit differently while watching God do the rest. Before we get into the mechanics of what those changes will look like, we need to reaffirm our mission and begin to formulate a vision. Our mission is: "McDonald Presbyterian Church exists to honor God by making more disciples for Jesus Christ." We will be talking about this a lot in the days ahead and it will be a team project for our Session and Staff to flesh out how we will actively work to accomplish our mission. All of us will be involved. One of the things that we should understand with this new focus is that the mission of making disciples encompasses all the ministry functions that the Scriptures expect of us. We will focus on loving others, serving our neighbors, feeding the hungry, and caring for the less fortunate. However, we will only carry out those ministries if they also are successful at making new disciples for Jesus. As we visit our own members, we also will visit community members who are sick or need encouragement. As we pack shoeboxes we will focus on helping others experience the same joy with us. As we maintain and improve our facilities, we will make our decisions based on what is best for our guests and visitors rather than for ourselves. As we prepare luncheons and celebrations, we will consider how we might be able to invite more people to join us in our fellowship. As we enter the fall, we will be realigning the responsibilities of Session and Staff and will begin to work with our other boards to consider how they will be formulated for mission. Again, please be patient in this process. We will learn that God is faithful, and he is always looking for people who will disciple and lead new believers. Our focus is to be available for that task. Thank you so much for walking this adventure with us and taking by faith so many things. God is good and his love endures forever! Pastor Justin

3 PAGE 3 VBS UPDATE Created by God, built for a purpose Our Maker Fun Factory Vacation Bible School week was a huge success! We had close to 100 kids in attendance each day. This is only possible with the dedication from our volunteers (young and old), the decoration crew, the donations generously given, and the prayers you provided. The pictures on this page depict the fun activities the kids engaged in during the week as they learned that they are created by God and built for a purpose.

4 PAGE 4 MINISTRY UPDATES JULY ITEMS OF THE MONTH: TOOTHBRUSHES* and COMBS AUGUST ITEMS OF THE MONTH: SCHOOL SUPPLIES: notebooks* and coloring books, pencils, erasers*, sharpeners*, crayons/markers/colored pencils * We d like to purchase these items in bulk - monetary donations welcome - please contact Michelle for more details. GOAL: 550 Shoeboxes ~ Current donation update below ~ Any donation at any time is appreciated! Bars of soap Washcloths Toothbrushes Pencils (331 boxes) Small stuffed animals Pairs of flip flops - 95 Thank you to everyone who continues to supply Ida Galicic with 4-ply yarnsolid pastels or bright colors would be appreciated. Any questions, please feel free to contact Michelle Unruh ( ) Sunday School wrapped up the year with a beautiful presentation on Children s Sunday. The kids choir sang, each class presented something from the school year, and we had two lovely young ladies present their testimonies. Sunday School will be on break until Rally Day, September 10. If your child will be returning or if your child would like to start our free Sunday School program, please fill out the Sunday School registration form found on page 6 of this newsletter. We are in need of Sunday School teachers! It works best if we have two teachers for each classroom, and our Sunday School size has grown over these last few years. With more teachers, we could add another classroom. Please search your heart to see if teaching children from the Bible is the path God has set for you for the next year or more. Children s Church will continue through the summer. We are going to join our larger church family by making it a summer of missions in order to teach our children how to be disciples. Curriculum is flexible, but some topics for the summer are: visiting others and singing, making gifts for the OCC shoeboxes, writing letters and drawing pictures for the homeowners of our summer service week, and painting rocks as part of our Share Joy project. Last but not least, the Children s Ministry teachers want to give a big thank you to Cliff Elicker for the splendid teacher appreciation breakfast he organized and prepared. FAITH COMES BY HEARING The Mission and Discipleship Committee would like to extend a sincere thank you to everyone who contributed to our Faith Comes by Hearing collection over Memorial Day weekend. Because of your generosity, more than 32 Biblesticks (the Audio Drama New Testament and selected Psalms) will be provided for the Troops who protect our nation and preserve our freedoms. BIBLE CLUB 412 SCHEDULE SUMMER SESSIONS - There will be two more Bible Club sessions this summer in Trinity Center Parlor - JULY 11 & AUGUST 8. We will gather at 10:00am and conclude with Subway lunch together. We will be studying how Moses led his people through the wilderness after the exodus from Egypt. Bring your Bibles and be ready to gain a deeper understanding of God. Students going into grade 6 through their senior year summer are welcome to attend.
