2 Rector s Message January 18, 2015 The spiritual health of our congregation was described at a retreat to be in a state of spiritual apathy. This has been observed in the seasonal or infrequent attendance, and inadequate participation by some members of our church family. There has been insufficient fellowship among members and a lack of commitment by some of us to give of our time, to give of ourselves and to give consciously, which means tithing. Is this a lukewarm state as described in the Book of Revelation chapter three and verse fifteen. I know your works; you are neither cold nor hot. I wished that you were either cold or hot. Are we complacent and self-satisfied? If not, we need to reflect and ask the relevant question: are we burning with zeal to increasingly know God and pursue His will for us or are we more focused on our personal issues, a sense of collective uncertainty and insecurity? Is there within us a persistent desire to encounter God in worship, prayer and the reading and meditation on the word of God? For us to give of our time, and of ourselves, and our possessions, we must first feel close to God and find ourselves to be one with God, the source of Love and eternal Life. A lukewarm condition describes a comfort zone, a comfortable environment which facilitates being at ease with one s self. Whenever we enter a comfort zone we are resistant to change. Change represents a challenge to us, as we have become comfortable with the way things are. If we are unwilling to make adequate time and offer sufficient resources and give of ourselves to implement strategies and programmes for the increase and growth of our church, we will see further decline in membership. As we assemble for congregational meeting next Sunday, let us recognize in our theme, in our biblical text, our hymn a renewed commitment to arise and get involved to expand Sunday school, implement programmes for stewardship and discipleship and to equip our members with skills to evangelize. In this way we will be able to reach the unbaptised and the unchurched to attract them to worship here, as we make known the blessed reign of God, that the earth may be filled with the glory of God as the water covers the sea. Our congregational meeting will be next Sunday, January 25, 2015 after the 8:00 a.m. service. We extend a warm welcome to all our visitors worshipping with us today. Sirrano+
