2 Pentecost 28 The Rector s Message November 16, 2014 Dear People of God, This week I share with you a reflection on Christian giving written by Former Rector, Bishop Herman Spence. I am aware that a few persons say, though not to me, that I speak only of money. I leave you to judge the truth of that statement. The fact is that I do sometimes speak about money, because if all our members were serious about giving their tithe, there would be no need to do so. Everyone of charity should be able to see that what I ask for is used for the improvement and development of this Church, its mission and outreach. The glorious thing about money, within the context of Church, is that it can be the instrument of our devotion to Christ himself; yes, that dirty, problematical and over-mastering material that some resent being mentioned, can demonstrate the reality of our spiritual commitment. The principle of Christian giving must be related to your faith, your commitment to Christ and your desire to minister to others welfare. So your money has become a kind of sacrament, an outward sign of an inner spiritual reality, but more than that, it is an effective sign, indeed a channel along which the blessing of God himself comes. So, my critics, whenever we all come spiritually alive, we will begin to see the necessity for giving and the Rector will no longer need to ask. If you go to the Conference Room, you will see many uncollected Freewill Offering envelopes. Now all those persons requested envelopes, which cost the Church quite a bit. That too will explain why appeals have to be made. Let us all examine ourselves to see if there is any difference between what we should give and what we actually give. We are asking for your support for our Gift Day and pray for our collective commitment rooted in faith, hope and love. We extend a warm welcome to all those visiting with us today especially the Members of Lodge Imperial who are worshipping with us. Sirrano + 2.

4 Pentecost 28 November 16, 2014 THE PRAYERS OF INTERCESSION Leader: Heavenly Father Strengthen your people for their witness and work in the world. We give thanks for Christians in other countries, especially where there is suffering, danger and persecution; Christians in our country and those sent out as missionaries. Fill your ministers with your Spirit that they may faithfully preach the gospel and administer your Holy Sacraments; Especially those in this diocese; John Archbishop, Howard Diocesan Bishop, Robert and Leon Suffragans, Sirrano, Larius, Andrea, Andre and all church workers. Lord show us your way. Leader: Guide with your wisdom and power the leaders of the nations of the world, so that everyone may live in peace and mutual trust, sharing with justice the resources of the earth. Give wisdom to those in authority in this land, for Patrick, Governor General; Portia, Prime Minister; Andrew, Leader of the Parliamentary Opposition; Members of Parliament and Senate. Lord show us your way Leader: Give to all peoples a desire for righteousness, peace, unselfishness, compassion, and fairness with the will to work together in trust, to seek the common good and to share with justice the resources of the earth. Lord show us your way Leader: Send out the light and truth of your gospel and bring people everywhere to know and love you. Enable those who minister among us to commend your truth by their example and teaching. May we gladly receive and obey your word. We commend to your keeping, Lord, ourselves and each other, our families, our neighbours, and our friends. Enable us by your Spirit to live in love for you and for one another. Lord show us your way Leader: Comfort and heal, merciful Lord, all who are in sorrow, need, sickness, the lonely; the unloved; the persecuted, those who 4.

5 All: grieve or in any other trouble. Give them a firm trust in your goodness; help those who minister to and care for them and bring us all into the joy of your salvation. Lord show us your way Teach us your path. Leader: We give thanks for all who have triumph in your Name and commemorate the departed especially... Silence May be kept Grant us Lord God, a vision of our land as your love would make it: a land where the weak are protected, and none go hungry or poor; a land where the benefits of civilized life are shared, and everyone can enjoy them; a land where different races and cultures live in tolerance and mutual respect; a land where peace is built with justice, and justice is guided by love. And give us the inspiration and courage to build it, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
