6 Faith Formation and Christian Education Did you know? Lambs are almost exclusively symbolic in the Bible. They represented innocence and gentleness. God s care for His people was often expressed in terms of a shepherd watching over His lambs. Unblemished lambs were to be sacrificed for people s sins, and so Jesus being called the Lamb of God refers to His status of being innocent the one who was sacrificed to take away the sins of the world. (David Howard and Gary Burge, Fascinating Bible Facts, 1997). Quote for reflection The world can be a dark place, and as Christians, we re called to bring the light of Jesus to those who live in darkness. In every season of our lives, in all the circumstances we may encounter, and in each challenge that we may face, always be assured that Jesus Christ is the light of the world that dispels fear, provides assurance and direction, and brings about enduring peace and joy in our lives. (David Bednar, 2016).
