2 The Rector s Message Nov. 17, 2013 Dear People of God This week I share with you a reflection written by former Rector, Rt. Revd. Dr. Robert Thompson, Suffragan Bishop of Kingston. What does it mean to say Sunday after Sunday in the Nicene Creed, we believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Giver of Life? My prayer and hope is that after our services today we would have come a little closer in our understanding of the work of Holy Spirit in our lives. In the beginning, when the Earth was without form and void, the Spirit of God was moving over the face of the waters. (Genesis 1:2) The same Spirit inspired men and women down the ages to discern and obey the will of God and to proclaim it with courage. It was the same Spirit that empowered Jesus for His earthly ministry. On the first Pentecost Day, the coming of the Holy Spirit was dramatized in spectacular form with tongues of fire and the disciples speaking in tongues. The impression we are often left with is that the coming of the spirit must be accompanied by unusual and extraordinary happenings. In that wonderful passage from 1 Kings Chapter 19, we read that this is not necessarily so. We are told for example of a mighty wind, an earthquake and a fire. However when God conversed with Elijah it was in a still, small voice, in other words through the sound of a gentle breeze. What God wants of Elijah is strong action, but the commission is laid on him in a gentle whisper. Today in our worship let each one of us affirm the presence of the Holy Spirit as we live out our lives in the day to day events, but let us by doing this acknowledge that the Spirit often speaks to us in silence, in the quite of our ordinary lives. Unless we acknowledge this we may never discern His presence. We extend a warm welcome to all those visiting with us today. Sirrano +

QUOTE FOR REFLECTION To give glory to God, in the biblical phrase, is to enjoy that fellowship, to come to reflect God s own character of outgoing love and humbly to have God and not one s self as the centre. There lies man s true status, true freedom and true destiny. Do not be afraid of looking towards heaven, for heaven is the meaning of our existence as created in God s likeness for fellowship with him. 10 350 th Anniversary Year of Celebrations, November 2014 to November The objective of the 350 th Anniversary Celebration is to MOBILISE, INFORM and CELEBRATE: To Mobilise and Energise our Congregation and all the organizations of our Church, to provide information on the history and mission of the Church over the years and a celebration of God s love and care for his Church. The celebration will take the form of yearlong activities which will begin in the month of our Church s founding, November 2014 during Patronal Festival and culminate in November The Planning Committee has suggested a preliminary list of 35 activities for the year (Please see insert) and is soliciting additional suggestions from which the Committee will select. Members of St. Andrew with suggestions may either share them with any member of the Committee, or in writing left at the Church Office, addressed to 350 th Anniversary Committee. Committee members are:- Robert Gregory, Andrea Chin See, George Briggs, Sterling Soares, Michael Lawe, Alvaro Casserly, Veta Bullock, Lascelles Newman and Norman Davis. Please be advised that all Anniversary activities must be self-financed, striving to generate a surplus wherever possible.
