If you, as a ministry leader, need work done in your area or for your ministry please notify the office or Roger Davis our facilities director. From the Pastor s Heart... Dear members & friends of Broadman Baptist Church: I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now (Phil. 1:3-5, NIV) A former sailor tells this story: I was scrubbing the bulkhead on the USS Kitty Hawk one Sunday morning when the loudspeaker announced, "Religious services. Maintain silence about the decks. Discontinue all unnecessary work." An hour later, the opinion many of us held regarding our daily routine, was confirmed with this announcement, "Resume all unnecessary work." There is no unnecessary work with God s Kingdom and in His church. Every person is needed and every job is important. 2 Page 2 PASTOR S CORNER CONTINUED AND MORE... B.A.N.D. SUNDAY, WEAVERS (Continued from page 1) who serves as part of our church. Whatever you do - lead in worship, teach a class, help take care of our property, serve in the nursery, organize fellowships, work on a committee, participate in outreach activities, etc. - you are much appreciated! Without you, your faithfulness, and your dedication, we could not function effectively as a church. In order for our labor not to be in vain, however, we must stay connected with the power of God. No matter how diligent and dedicated we may be, we will never see God s kingdom move forward in His glory and power until prayer permeates every aspect of our lives. For this reason, we will be emphasizing prayer for our church this fall. This month, I will be preaching through the Model Prayer (aka the Lord s Prayer) for in it we find instructions from Jesus, the Master of Prayer, about how we are to pray. Then in October we will put those lessons into practice as we begin 40 Days of Prayer for Broadman. This will be an opportunity for us to call out to God in focused worship, repentance, and faith for 40 straight days. Each person will receive a daily prayer guide which will help us in worshipping God, seeking personal transformation, and lifting up a specific aspect of our church. Prayer is the key that unlocks the power of God in our lives. As we pray, we honor and recognize God as God. As we pray, God reveals Himself to us. As we pray, God receives the opportunity to glorify Himself in responding to our prayers. As we pray, we are transformed. Join me in prayer for our church, and specifically that we be transformed into a place where God s power is clearly seen. God wants to do great things! Let s get in on them!! CHILDREN S MINISTRY FUNDRAISER -Pastor Steve October 7 th a fundraiser for Children s ministry Pumpkin Spice & Everything Nice. Watch the weekly bulletin for more information. FALL HIKING SPREE BEGINS Hiking Spree begins for BBC in October. Look in the Sunday bulletin each week for the hiking spot to meet at. B.A.N.D. Sunday is September 30 th. The Singing Weavers will be leading the Worship Service and will perform a concert at 1:30 p.m. after the pot luck lunch at 12:30 p.m. Invite your family and friends to this special B.A.N.D. Sunday with the Singing Weavers. The Singing Weavers! NEWCOMER S CLASS: Beginning September 9th during the Sunday school hour at 9:45 a.m. Pastor John will be teaching the Newcomer s Class. This class will help you to understand who you are and where you are going as a new church member. The class will show you how to be involved in the life and ministry of Broadman. New members not only will have a better understanding of the simple truths that bring salvation and victorious faithful living but they will have an even greater affection for our Lord who loves them. If you are new to the church and have not received notification about this class please check with the office. Completion of this class is required for membership at Broadman.

3 Page 3 STEWARDSHIP, ATTENDANCE, AND MORE... RECIPE OF THE MONTH God Gives, Too Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full --- pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back. Luke 6:38 A young Christian walked into church one morning, intending to give five dollars of the fifty dollars he d been paid the night before for some work he had done. As he opened his wallet, though, it seemed the Spirit spoke to his heart and told him to give the full fifty dollars. A little astonished, he prayed about it, and the Spirit seemed only to confirm the directive. A humble man, he finally wrapped the fifty dollars in a one-dollar bill and dropped the packet into the offering plate. He felt a little miffed after church, but he told himself God had good reason for the addition. On the way home from church, his father, who was one of the counters, said, It was really remarkable. We didn t think we d make the budget. But then we found fifty dollars wrapped in a one-dollar bill. It put us over the top. The young man said nothing, thinking to himself that God had done something remarkable. The next day he was offered an extra job that would net him $150. God simply will not be outgiven, and his promise is to reward those who give liberally and sacrificially. Excerpt from The One Year Book of Bible Promises, Tyndale Sopapilla Cheesecake INGREDIENTS: 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened 1 cup white sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 2 (8 ounce) packages refrigerated crescent rolls 1/2 cup melted butter 1/2 cup white sugar 1. Preheat an oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Prepare a 9x13 inch baking dish with cooking spray. 2. Beat the cream cheese with 1 cup of sugar and the vanilla extract in a bowl until smooth; set aside. 3. Unroll the cans of crescent roll dough, and use a rolling pin to shape each sheet into 9x13 inch rectangles. Press one sheet into the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish. Evenly spread the cream cheese mixture into the baking dish, then cover with the remaining piece of crescent dough, and brush with melted butter. Stir together 1/2 cup of sugar with the cinnamon in a small bowl, and sprinkle evenly over the top of the cheesecake. Bake in the preheated oven until the crescent dough has puffed and turned golden brown, about 30 minutes. CHRISTIAN SYMBOLS... SEAL A seal is the mark of God s promises to the believer and of the believer s consecration to God. Old Testament priests wore a piece of gold against their forehead, as a seal, engraved with the words Holy to the Lord. For Christians, the sign of the cross serves as a seal of salvation. Paul declares, He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come (2 Corinthians 1:21-22, NIV). THE WB: WEDNESDAY BROADMAN There is something for everyone on Wednesday nights. If you have not worshipped with us on Wednesday s please consider giving it a try. The WB is a very relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. It is a time in which we can seek God and experience fellowship with God s people mid-week in order to stay connected to God and one another. 6 Page 6 SEPTEMBER MISSION... RAY ROBERTS STATE MISSIONS OFFERING WHY MISSIONS OHIO?... Because it s who we are... Southern Baptists all over Ohio are serving boldly as ambassadors for Christ - sharing the love of Jesus and His message of reconciliation through the Gospel. As for us, we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard. Acts 4:20 We should always pray for ministries and missions around the world throughout the entire year. However, one week in particular, each year, is set aside as a special time to pray and support mission work happening right here in the state of Ohio. This year, the week of Sunday, September 9, 2018 through Sunday, September 16, 2018, is that time. Let us together, as Southern Baptists, join other believers, from all around Ohio, to pray for ministries and mission work which conveys Christ's love all while spreading the Gospel and the message of Salvation through Jesus Christ our Lord throughout Ohio and ultimately the entire world. A great way to support missions & ministries in the state of Ohio is by giving to the Ray Roberts State Missions Offering. 100% of all our funds collected during the month of September will go directly to provide for missions and ministries, such as ESL (English as a Second Language) Classes, Ohio Changers, Seneca Lake Baptist Assembly, OBCD (Ohio Baptist Conference of the Deaf) Deaf Ministry, Ohio Disaster Relief, Buckeye Baptist Builders and many others, right here in the great state of Ohio! Be sure to pray for ministries & mission work all throughout Ohio during September 9-16, 2018 and please designate your special gift to the Ray Roberts State Missions Offering during the month of September. 7 Page 7 WOMEN S MINISTRY... WOMEN S MINISTRY On August 18, 2018, Ten Broadman ladies met for several hours of cutting, sewing and putting together 24 outfits for children to be used for helping pack in Christmas shoe boxes for the Christmas Samaritan's Purse Christmas ministry. There are some other ladies who have taken home kits put together by Carol Smith to be assembled at their convenience at home. These are not meant to replace the boxes that Broadman families pack each year. These are to be in addition to those that families will put together. If you would like to put together some of the dresses or soccer outfits, you can speak to Carol Smith and request the patterns. The ladies at each gathering have been bringing items that will also be added to the boxes that will be packed. Next month at our meeting we will be bringing small toys for the shoe boxes. If you would like to donate some toys, we will be using them to finish packing the boxes that we will pack as a group. As you are out shopping, please keep this project in mind. In September we are hoping to have a missionary speak. We will have more details later that will be shared as they are finalized. At the end of September, the Tuesday Ladies' Bible Study will be finishing the study of Proverbs. We will be starting a book review with a guest leader. More info about this will be in the October BEACON.

THE ROLE OF A LIFETIME We grow up when we see our life and our role from God s perspective; when we thank God for the role he has assigned us and begin to see our cup as a gift instead of a cross; when each morning we ask, God, how can I glorify you today in my given role? Linda Dillow, Calm My Anxious Heart WILL HEAVEN BE BORING?... As a youngster, I imagined heaven as a big, dim room with thick carpet and worried that filling an eternity of days would be boring. I never dreamed anyone shared that concern until I read Sam Storms words: Heaven is not one grand, momentary flash of excitement followed by an eternity of boredom (One Thing) So, what is heaven like? Scripture offers only a few intriguing glimpses: Ezekiel s vision of four fiery creatures and the hem of God s garment gleaming in rainbow light; Jesus parable of the rich man and Lazarus, depicting heaven within shouting distance of Hades; Jesus mention of many rooms in his Father s house; Stephen seeing Jesus at God s right hand; John of Patmos view of the new Jerusalem, descending from God. We can t know exactly what heaven looks like or how we ll fill all our free time! (Doubtless, worship around God s throne will be a big and joyous part.) But we know there will be no hunger, thirst, tears, death or pain (see Revelation 7, 21 and 22). All peoples and languages will be included, with healing for all nations. There will be a new episode of divine grace every day! Storms writes. Most importantly, Jesus will be there the Lamb of God, our Shepherd, sheltering us with his presence.
