1 MISSION STATEMENT Preaching and teaching the Bible with passion and love Bringing the unchurched to a trusting and redemptive relationship with Jesus Christ Nurturing our congregation Serving the needs of our community Doing New Things Together When I look around Florissant Presbyterian Church this spring, I see and hear signs of hope and life in Christ. We are developing new ways of outreach and adapting previous missions. The best part of how we are making this happen is though our faith and life together. Together we have contemplated doing some new things and doing some old things differently as we weave our service into Jesus story of love and grace in the world. I have intended to lead us into thinking about what is good, hopeful and true in our mission and then ask us to imagine what it is like to push it forward, adapt, and innovate it. FPC has a great tradition of feeding and offering hospitality to people. When one of our members imagined Cooking up Kindness it made sense and fit right into our strengths. When someone suggested we make our community garden more directed to growing fresh vegetables for the TEAM food pantry, it fit right into our commitment to support hunger ministry. Together we are brave enough to take the risk and dare to experiment doing something new out of our past strengths. There are the successful years of the rummage sale, craft fair or maybe even Senior Week. What else can we adapt or should we innovate to build on our strength and better serve in Christ s name for the future. Doing new and different things can be scary. Changing traditional and old programs can be intimidating. Yet, we have each other, our church leaders, and a faithful God, to bless and empower us. When pushing forward into an uncertain future, our faith together and trust in each other is our most important and reliable resource. As we are blessed together in Christ, we are called to be blessings together in Christ. Our church knows how to be faithful and do new things. Caring for others is in our past and is our future and we are not alone. We have each other and Christ beside us. In Christ s New Creation, Pastor Sean

4 By/Betty Walters Mother s Day Every day is a gift to celebrate our Mothers Her steadfast love is like no other Our Mothers play many roles in our lives Compassion, advice, guidance and hope is what they give They light up a room with their smiles And they always go the extra mile You receive many rewards from your Mother When all they ask for is that we love one another So don t forget Mother s Special Day This year it s the 13 th of May.
5 MARINER LOG Church News CONGREGATION CARE CHURCH LIFE With the rummage sale moved to August, April was a quiet month for the Mariners. Also the Christian Concert to benefit TEAM is on hold. The bands are going to try something different but we have no information at this time. We did help out with the Church Life Cooking up Kindness dinner on April 12 th. Our next activity will be the continental breakfast on Mother s Day May 13 th. Donuts, fresh fruit, juice, milk and coffee will be set-out in Harmon Hall from 9 to 10:00. Please come join your church family for fellowship before worship. Mark your calendar for our breakfast in the pavilion on Saturday, June 2 at 9:00. GREEN COMMITTEE Spring is here! Hopefully we will all be able to get outdoors and enjoy God s creation. While some of His creations are less than pleasant to us (Mosquitoes, Gnats, Aphids) there are natural ways to reduce the irritation. While planting your gardens this year including some of these plants can make your outdoor time more enjoyable: Marigolds, Geraniums, Lavender, Lemon Grass, Lemon Balm, Basil can all repel Mosquitoes. Other Plants can be used to attract some beauty to your yard: Cardinal Flower, Honeysuckle, Trumpet creeper, Red Buckeye, and Columbine attract Hummingbirds. Butterfly Bushes and Milkweed can draw Monarchs and other species of butterfly to your home. PRAY REQUEST Leonard, Bruce, Sue, Shirley and her son Burt, Ruth & her great grandson; Trish s friends, Jason & Carla; Mike s relative Susan, Sue s brother-in-law Jeff, her niece Bailey, her sister Lynn and her granddaughter Cortney; Ruth & her daughter, Mary Jo; Sara, Pamela and Shirley.
