Hello all! With the summer coming to an end, I wanted to give a recap of what the Youth had done and what we want to do over the next month. Kingdom Bound was amazing! With the money that was raised throughout the year including the carnival, all of the tickets were paid for as well as food throughout the day. The kids enjoyed a day in a Christian infused environment where they were able to listen to the music they loved, ride their favorite rides, and came home talking about Christian Colleges that they are interested in. It was great to hear the different perspectives of the day but equally amazing to hear that everyone loved it. SLAM update!!! SLAM is the Youth Group for kids Kindergarten through 6 th Grade. Slam will commence on September 22 nd and will continue throughout the year on the 1st and 3rd Friday of the month from 6:00 PM-7:30 PM. SLAM calendars will be posted throughout the Church. The grade 6 through 12 Youth Group is called Lighthouse and has been going on throughout the summer and plans to continue. The Youth will continue to meet every Thursday from 6:30 PM-8:00 PM. Our focus will be community service and showing the Love of Jesus in a tangible way. The Youth are excited to start our first service project, which will be cooking and serving for Sharing Suppers in September. We will be having Pasta with red sauce, Salad and bread for dinner. The kids are excited to kick the year off with service! Thank you all for your continued prayers and encouragement. It is amazing to watch God work through each and every one of these kids. In Him, Joe Neri HUMC Youth Coordinator 3

What to expect at the District Days A Way Forward August 18, 2017 / By Shannon Hodson / Upper New York Area Resident Bishop Mark J. Webb will be visiting each of the Districts in the Upper New York Conference during his District Days tour. The theme of the tour will be A Way Forward. This year s District Days is set up in such a way that will facilitate active discussion. In each District, conversations will be had in small groups based on questions originating with the United Methodists Commission on a Way Forward, which is a group of laity and clergy from across our global church that was gathered together by the Council of Bishops to work on the issues related to human sexuality which arose from the 2016 General Conference. The goal of these conversations is not to reach a consensus on the answers to the questions, but rather to record an array of thoughts and ideas to send to the Commission. In the words of the Conference s Human Sexuality Task Force who have designed the day, we will discuss the United Methodist Church, and what changes we might need to make, to make it more like God wants us to be. The schedule for the District Days is as follows, all of which will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m.: Mountain View Avoca UMC Cornerstone Christ First, Jamestown Finger Lakes - Seneca Falls UMC Niagara Frontier Harris Hill UMC Albany Shenendehowa UMC Adirondack Queensbury UMC Oneonta Unadilla UMC Northern Flow Canton UMC Crossroads The United Methodist Center Mohawk Sherrill: Christ Church Binghamton Endwell UMC Genesee Valley UMC 4

United Methodist Women September 2017 I feel like I am starting a new year but it is ONLY September!!!! UMW will be holding its monthly meeting on Tuesday, September 5 th at 7:00 p.m. in the Multipurpose room. All ladies of the HUMC family are invited and welcomed. Our monthly meetings are held the first Tuesday of every month except for December when we join Friendship Circle for their cookie exchange. As your leader I have been busy spending our money ( repair of the refrigerator, new upholstery for the choir chairs, new foam for the Multipurpose Room couches come try the couches out--- and in August we finally got a new kitchen faucet the old one dripped constantly as well as leaked under the counter). Come to the meeting and get the grand total. It is Turkey Dinner Planning Time Turkey Dinner is a UMW outreach event that welcomes the community into our church to share a delicious meal and togetherness with friends and family in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Hopefully I will have the names of the people who will be: The Dinner chairperson The Ticket sales chairperson The Kitchen and preparing the dinner chairperson We will be deciding on the date of the dinner and the ticket price: The first Saturday is November 4 th (Sharing Suppers is scheduled for the 2 nd Saturday) Last year s prices and dining times were as follows, Any Changes???? Adults ---$14, Seniors ---$11, Take Out---$11, Youth ages (6-10) $7, children (5-0) Free Seatings were at: 4 PM, 5:15 PM, 6:30 PM, takeouts PM We usually have a guest speaker for October, ---any suggestions or ideas? We have spent a lot of our money this year with kitchen repairs, new sink, new faucet and helping with the update of the Sanctuary. We should think about replenishing our kitchen fund, hopefully we will not have any repairs in the near future but one never knows. So, does anyone have any good ideas for a fund raiser in the spring? Not a garage sale that works well every other year. Or, there is money in the Garage Sale account we were saving for Multipurpose room furniture, with the new foam cushions, new furniture is not needed??? What should we do with that money set aside for the kitchen all or part? Lots to think about, lots to discuss. We have a busy agenda and your input, ideas, suggestions are needed and welcomed. Janet LaBorie 5

Tops Gift Cards With your support you will help UMW earn money for the churches special projects (Fellowship Hall table and chairs, new upholstery for choir chairs) and for you cheaper gas for your car UMW sells Tops Gift Cards. This is a UMW quiet fund raiser. For every card sold we earn 5%. These cards are good at any TOPS store. For every $100 that is spent over a period of time (and it doesn t have to be all at one time) you will earn 10 cents off the price of gas at the Tops Spencerport or Hamlin Gas pumps. There is no expiration on the Gift cards themselves just on the points for gas. If you shop at TOPS and have questions concerning the cards just stop me in church or call me. I will be glad to answer your questions. It is an easy way to help fund some UMW special projects while you do something that is necessary---shop for groceries. With the support of quite a few ( less than 15 people) of our church family, and I thank them for their support, we raised enough money to purchase our new fellowship hall tables and chairs several years ago. We have continued to sell the cards and raised enough money to add to funds saved from another quiet fund raiser to pay for the re-upholstery of our choir chairs and the antique Altar chairs. I have been ordering denomination of $100 and $200. Other denominations, both lower and higher can be ordered but so far these two seem to work for those who support the program. If you would like to help support this fund raiser but would like a different denomination just let me know, I will be glad to order what you would like to use in my next order, probably sometime soon. Whether you stop in Tops for a quick milk and bread run or shop for your weekly groceries please consider having a TOPS Gift card in your pocket. This is an easy way to earn money for our church special projects without lots of people putting out a lot of time or energy. Blessings Janet LaBorie: co-coordinator for Tops Gift Cards 6

Sharing Suppers A Community Dinner The Sharing Supper will be held on September 9 from 5:30p.m. - 6:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. It will be hosted by Joe Neri and the Youth Group. They will be serving a pasta dish, bread, salad and dessert. So, if you need a break from cooking or want a night out then join us for dinner. Donations are acceptable. 8 HUMC s Vacation Bible School Team Does It Again! July 2017 MAKER FUN FACTORY a Huge Success! The sounds of joy filled songs, Bible stories, children laughing, and adults teaching filled our building during Maker Fun Factory VBS, July Over 90 children from the community participated. More than 30 teens and adults volunteered their gifts of time and talent across the week, to help spread the Word amongst the children. The week was complete with memorable object lessons, exciting & interactive Bible stories, silly games, yummy snacks, and great music. VBS embodies the HUMC Vision of Following Jesus, Connecting Generations, and Transforming Communities. Almost 60% of participants were children from beyond our HUMC family! Participants and volunteers ranged in age from 2 to 80+ years. Daily Bible Points helped participants remember they have been Created by God, Built for a Purpose. Volunteers and participants donated school supplies to help fill over 50 backpacks for HUMC Cadet Cupboard families. This VBS ministry is a labor of love. Once again, the generosity of our church family, whether it be financial, physical, or spiritual, enable the VBS team to pull together and present a wonderful week of worship, teaching, and fellowship. Thank you for your continued support of the HUMC VBS ministry! Join us next summer for 8

Starting in September: Disciple Bible Study Fast Track Since 1987, Disciple Bible Study has reached nearly 3 million people worldwide, introducing the grand sweep of Scripture in a 34-week format. Now Disciple Fast Track maintains the integrity and principles of the original study, but its modifications can better meet the needs of a hectic world. Participants still receive a thorough introduction to the Bible, but in almost a third less time. Fast Track is not a replacement for the original; it is simply a practical option. Dan and Pat Van Vleck will be leading this 24-week study on Sundays following worship from approximately 11:30am to 12:45pm. We will cover the Old Testament in the Fall, beginning September 10 th and finishing before Thanksgiving. We will start up again in January for the New Testament and be done by Easter. There are daily reading assignments to be done by you throughout the study. On Sundays, there will be a brief, illustrated review video enables participants to recall important facts and ideas; video presenters then offer insights into the current week s session, then our group will have question to discuss. This group is open to everyone NO bible study experience or knowledge is needed. Just a desire to learn God s Word and grow closer to Jesus. Please let Pat (van4bs@gmail.com) know if you are interested in participating. Information about the book will be available closer to September. Please note: This is in addition to the Adult Sunday School class that already meets and is led by Bob Comstock. YOU are invited to Coffee with the Pastor with Discussion about our Discipleship Pathway Sunday, September 10 th following Worship. Come and hear more about HUMC, ask questions, and learn about our Discipleship Pathway! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Opportunity: We are looking for someone who is interested, qualified, able, available and loves the Lord (yes that s a lot ) to spend some time with Pat in the church office and receive training on specific jobs needed in the office. For example: printing the bulletin; preparing announcements print and PPT; doing mailings; making flyers, etc. This person will then be asked to be the paid substitute office person when Pat is away. This will be more involved than the current volunteer position of answering the phones. For specifics see Pat, Pastor Jennifer or someone on SPRC. Thanks!! 12

August 2017 Treasurer s Executive Summary August 9, 2017 As of June 8, 2017, we had a $ in the Quicken account, with outstanding invoices of $ plus $ of August Ministry Shares. Balance in the Quicken Account does reflect payroll being paid for the first half of the month. Donations have decreased about $800 a week for the past 3 months compared to the first Quarter of the year. On 8/9/2017, we moved $4000 from Savings to Checking to meet this month s immediate needs; enabling us to pay all open invoices except Ministry Shares. We anticipate the future month s donations will cover the remaining month s needs. Key Financial Key points tracked; The Ministry Shares, Health premiums and Retiree premiums for August have not been paid as yet. All Repeating expenses and Church Mutual Insurance have been Paid. Actual Pledges vs Pledges are plus $15,306 year to date although they have decreased about $2,000 in July. Sanctuary Project: Pledges continue to be received, $1335 was donated in July. We need an additional $4,000 to meet our $25,000 Goal in the remaining 5 months of the year. Pledges are on schedule! Concerns / Actions: Spending is outpacing income please be conservative with the expenditures. Please fill our Purple Vouchers for all expenditures. THANK YOU!!!!! Questions Contact Dennis Sneddon Have you ever considered signing up for Electronic Fund Transfer for your Tithes and Offerings? It is very easy. See the form on the back of this page. You can fill it out and return it to the church office or to Finance Chair Ed Earnhart. What a great way to keep your contributions current. It is also a great way for the church to have a steady, planned income. Questions? Contact Ed edgar.earnhart@gmail.com or (585)
