1 St. Peter s Lutheran Church The Epistle April, 2018 A publication of St. Peters Ev. Lutheran Church 403 W. Bridge Street Brownstown, IN Rev. Jeremy Yeadon, Pastor Robert Pottschmidt Director of Parish Music.. Our Mission: To proclaim the Gospel message of salvation in Jesus Christ and fulfill the Great Commission of Matthew 28:19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
2 Aprille Someplace in one of his convoluted stories of people's personal life, Garrison Keillor writes of a young woman who is to be confirmed in the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ and he quotes a poem of Chaucer, the great English bard: Whan that Aprille with his shoures soote The droghte of March hath perced to the roote And bathed every veyne in swich licour Of which vertu engendred is the flour; Whan Zephyrus eek with his sweete breeth Inspired hath in every holt and heath The tendre croppes, and the yonge sonne Hath in the Ram his halve cours yronne And smale fowles maken melodye That slepen all the nyght with open ye... After going all over Minnesota and much of the world with his story of how Lutherans drink too much coffee and enjoy pot roast meals after church on Sunday afternoons, Garrison Keillor finally comes back to what he'd really like to say. "Our lovely world has the power to make us brave. A person wants to be someone else and gets scared... But we ride so far on that bus that we become the stranger. Nevertheless, these things stay the same: the sweet breath, the rain, the tendre croppes, and the smale fowles maken melodye. God watches each one and knows when it falls. And so much more does He watch us all." I like to remember that. God watches over us all. Having just come through all of the Lenten cycle, it's as though we can stretch and reach for the sky with the dawning of the Easter Sunday morning here in the month of Aprille once again. How much our dear heavenly Father loves us, each and every one. Having been buried with Christ Jesus by baptism into His death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we now are privileged to walk in newness of life. Romans 6.4. We are very blessed indeed. Amidst a confusion of pain and suffering, crime and change in the neighborhood and a whole host of other personal issues and concerns, God continues His watch over us all, blesses us with the forgiveness of all our many sins, for Jesus' sake, and promises that we shall be united with Him in a resurrection like His. Romans 6.5. That's just good to remember this Aprille, and always. Pastor Yeadon 3

10 Lutheran Hour Program Guide WZZB 1390 Sunday 11:30 AM WHAS 840 Sunday 6:30AM April 1 "They Were Afraid, You Know?" Guest Speaker: Rev. Dr. Dale A. Meyer It takes a lot to overcome fear, a lot of words, in fact a lifetime of words. Let this Easter Day be a new beginning of trusting Jesus' words of resurrection and life! (Mark 16:1-8) April 8 "It's Really Real" Speaker Emeritus of The Lutheran Hour: Rev. Dr. Ken Klaus Here' the deal. If Jesus actually rose from the dead, it would be wise to believe in Him because there will be salvation in no one else. If He didn't rise, we're all toast. Tune in to today's message and hear why you can be confident Jesus' resurrection is really real. (1 John 1:1-3) April 15 "Peace to You" Guest Speaker: Rev. Dr. Dale A. Meyer Christians often say, "The Lord be with you." What does that look like? And how do you know Jesus is indeed with you? Jesus' visit to His first disciples shows us the how and what of confidence in Christ. (Luke 24:36-49) April 22 "What's in a Name?" Speaker Emeritus of The Lutheran Hour: Rev. Dr. Ken Klaus We live in a disposable age. If something wears out, breaks down or is lost, we replace it. But who or what can replace Jesus? Who else can save us? (Acts 1:42) April 29 "The Answer to Unhappiness" Guest Speaker: Rev. Michael Newman What do you really want? What does your heart yearn for most? A blogger recently asked her readers the question: "If you could say in one word what you want more of in life, what would that be?" Can you guess the number one answer? It was happiness. (Acts 8:26-40) 13
