Just drop it off at the church office or it to jan.moore@calvertfbc.org Balsamic Grilled Vegetables Aug 1 Dale Smith Aug 3 Sam Jones Aug 5 Winnie Futrell Aug 9 Sharon Lanier Aug 18 Jean Smith Aug 20 Phil Broyles Aug 20 Sheri Tucker Aug 21 Gene Low Aug 22 Jackie Prater Aug 25 Peyton Latta Aug 29 Ben Noles Aug 2 Kean & Linda McKinney Aug 13 Aaron & Crystal Smith Aug 14 Janet & Alan Dietsch Aug 14 Karen & Maury Dodson Ingredients 1 1/2 cups balsamic vinegar, preferably aged 1 tablespoons brown sugar 2 tablespoons honey 1/2 cup balsamic vinegar, preferably aged 1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil 1 tablespoon sea salt 1 tablespoon freshly ground black pepper 1 teaspoon granulated garlic 3 (9 to 12-inch) carrots, sliced lengthwise, 1/4-inch thick 2 celery roots, trimmed and cut in 1/4-inch slices 3 large red onions, cut into rounds, 3/8-inch thick 2 (7 to 8-inch) zucchini, sliced lengthwise, 1/4-inch thick 4 (4-inch), crooked neck squash, sliced lengthwise, 1/4-inch thick Directions In a medium saute pan over medium heat, add vinegar, sugar, and honey. Let simmer for 15 to 20 minutes or until reduced by half. Keep warm for glazing on grill. In a 1 gallon re-sealable bag, add the balsamic vinegar, olive oil, sea salt, pepper, and garlic and mix until combined. Next, add the carrots, celery root and onions, remove excess air. Allow to marinate for 30 minutes. Then add the zucchini and squash and allow to marinate for 10 more minutes. Preheat grill to medium-high. Brush grill with oil. Add onions, carrots and celery root. Cook on both sides for 3 to 5 minutes brushing with balsamic glaze. Mark and brown evenly on both sides. Remove to holding pan and cover with aluminum foil. Add squash and zucchini to grill, brush with glaze and cook for 2 minutes per side, until marked and evenly brown. Remove to holding pan, and cover until service. Drizzle veggies with remaining glaze and serve on a warm platter. Midwest Living

3 From Your Pastor: Jim Ewing As we roll into August I want to share some things with you and give you some updates and some heads-up on what ll be going on over the next several weeks. El Salvador Mission Trip July 7-14, 2018 Our Purchase Area Baptist Association completed a weeklong mission trip to El Salvador. My sincere thanks to the FBC family for allowing me the time to make this trip. Here s a summary of what happened: On Sunday, we visited a church in El Triumfo where Bro Dennis Manley, our Director of Missions, preached, as did Pastor Jaime Masso, the pastor of a Spanish speaking church in Mayfield. In addition, our team ministered to 55 children and provided leadership training to several children s leaders. On Monday, we traveled to Berlin where I led a seminar on new Christian follow-up and discipleship, Pastor Masso led a seminar in building strong family relationships, and Bro Dennis led a seminar on church administration. There were 50 leaders present from 6 churches. On Tuesday we visited a small orphanage outside the city of San Miguel and were able to minister and share the Gospel with 27 children and 3 adult leaders. Wednesday we traveled to the town of Jiqulisco, where we provided the same training seminars for 30 pastors and adult leaders as well as 27 children s leaders. I preached that evening. On Thursday, we visited a Middle School in Jiqulisco and shared the gospel with 225 children... 6 made professions of faith. That evening we visited 12 homes and I was blessed to lead a young lady to faith in Jesus. It was an amazing blessing! We re starting to plan for a return trip in April If you are interested in joining us, let me know. There are several ways you can be involved and I can give you more details. Monday, August 6 CCES Teacher Luncheon The Calvert Area churches are joining together to provide a lunch for the CC Elementary School teachers as they make final preparations for the new school year. Building Fund Update: Although you may continue to give to the building fund, we have sufficient funds to complete our current planned projects and no longer need to emphasize giving to the building fund. Newest Members: Be sure to greet our newest members, Jason and Stacey Young. Jason is a retired State Police officer and a resource officer in the Marshall County School System. He is also on the Board with me at HOPE Clinic. Stacey works in Patient Relations at Baptist Health Paducah. They have a son, Taylor. New Priest at St Pius X Catholic Church - Father Brian Johnson has just joined the team. He s a Kentucky native, born and raised in Owensboro. If you have a chance to see him, be sure and give him a warm Calvert City welcome. Here are some other planning dates for your calendar: Lord s Supper Service Sunday, September 9; Fellowship Meal to follow. LifeLine Stroke Screening Clinic, Monday, September 10; we re hosting the Purchase Area Baptist Association Executive Committee Meeting on Thursday, September 20; and our annual Church Family Picnic will be on Sunday, September 30 at Joe & Karen Owen s Lake House; our almost annual Veteran s Fish Fry will be on Friday, November 9... FBC is hosting again this year with tremendous support from Ron & Joan Lappin and the wonderful FLW Outdoors team. I ll provide additional information on these events as we get closer to the actual dates. Church Photo Directory The last day for professional photographs is Friday, August 3. You can still sign up but after that, the only way to get your picture into the directory is to send us a digital photo of your own. We expect to have copies of the directory about 3-4 weeks after photo shoots are complete. It s been a long time since we ve updated our directory, so please come get your picture taken or send us one... we want to make sure everybody is in the book. Be sure to read the other Staff Team letters... there s much more on the docket for the fall. Thank you for the privilege of serving with you all. God has blessed us... and I still get excited about what is yet to come! See you Sunday! Together in Him, Bro Jim Children s Ministry: Janet Dietsch It s coming! AWANA starts Sunday, August 12 at 5:30pm. We are going to start our year off with a scavenger hunt about the Bible. We will have registration and children will get to know their leaders. It is going to be a great year! Children s choir has been so much fun with Mr. Danny. The children are enjoying learning new songs and singing old ones too. The first Wednesday of every month will be children s choir from 6-7pm. JUMP with Ms. Crystal and Mr. Aaron will start back on Wednesday, August 8 th. We will have a Back to School swim party over at Mark and Julie Noles house. We will meet at the church at 5:45pm. Have children wear their swimsuit and bring a towel. We will be back at church around 7:10pm. JUMP will meet the 2 nd, 3 rd, & 4 th Wednesday of every month. In August, September, and October, we will learn about Incredible Me. This is a unit on how I am Created, I am Chosen, I am Christ s, and I am Called. We are looking forward to learning about us. We have so many things to be excited about. Our children are working very hard to learn about the Lord and how to use their lives for Him. Great things are happening. We hope you re a part of it too! Children in Christ, Janet Dietsch

4 Music Ministry: Danny Granstaff (This is the second of three installments taken from an article by: Sam Storms, lead Pastor at Bridgeway Church in Oklahoma City, OK.) AND HIS SERVANTS WILL WORSHIP HIM! REFLECTIONS ON OUR ETERNAL ENJOYMENT OF GOD. To emphasize both the extravagance and inexhaustible plenitude of God s display of grace, Paul makes four points. First, God is going to put on a continuing and perpetual public display of his grace toward us! Heaven is not one grand, momentary flash of excitement followed by an eternity of boredom. Heaven is not going to be an endless series of earthly re-runs! There will be a new episode of divine grace every day! A new revelation every moment of some heretofore-unseen aspect of the unfathomable complexity of divine compassion. A new and fresh disclosure of an implication or consequence of God s mercy, every day. A novel and stunning explanation of the meaning of what God has done for us, without end. Second, it isn t merely his grace, but the wealth or riches of his grace. God isn t simply gracious: his grace is deep, wide, high, wealthy, plentiful, abounding, infinitely replenishing. Third, as if mere grace were not enough, Paul refers to the immeasurable or surpassing riches of his grace! His grace cannot be quantified. His mercy exceeds calculation. Finally, one particular aspect of God s grace is going to be uniquely highlighted and experienced: his kindness! There is a deeply passionate and emotional dynamic in God s gracious affection for us that entails tenderness and gentleness and longsuffering and joy and heartfelt compassion. Will there ever be an end to this grace? Does it suffer from entropy? Will it ultimately evaporate? Is there a specified quantity to God s kindness that will slowly diminish and someday run dry? The point of Paul s effusive language is to emphasize that the grace of God in Christ is endlessly infinite, endlessly complex, endlessly deep, endlessly new, endlessly fresh, and endlessly profound. God is infinite. Therefore, so too are his attributes. Throughout the ages to come, forever and ever, we will be the recipients each instant of an ever increasing and more stunning, more fascinating, and thus inescapably more enjoyable display of God s grace than before. With that unending and ever-increasing display will come an unending and ever-increasing discovery on our part of more of the depths and greatness of God s grace. We will learn and grasp and comprehend more of the height and depth and width and breadth of his saving love. We will see ever new and always fresh displays and manifestations of his kindness. The knowledge we gain when we enter heaven will forever grow and deepen and expand and intensify and multiply. To be continued Worshipping always, Danny Facility Manager: Ray Tucker Here s what s going on in and around the buildings at FBC. The old conference room upstairs in the gym is getting a facelift in preparation for becoming the YOUTH ROOM. The walls are finished and wainscoting, wood trim and paint come next with flooring afterwards. Then the project will be turned over to the youth for furnishings. Other major concerns are the stained glass window in the prayer room and the poor condition of our steeple. We have removed the old steeple and a new one will be in place in approximately 4-6 weeks. These projects have been in the works for many months. Scheduling equipment and craftsmen has proven to be very difficult but with some good weather this summer, things should start to happen. Ray Tucker Youth Ministry: Lance & Trena Gregory The temps are still sizzling but Summer Break for the Youth Group is starting to wind down since school starts again early next month! We had a lesson on Disappointment last week and how we don t need to lose heart in the rough times but instead take heart in knowing that GOD is with us in everything that happens in our lives!! We also had a special treat this month as two of our college students prepared a lesson for us one night and presented it to the youth group. Will McGee and Caleb Conaster did a great job and had some good points for us to think about in our daily walk. We are trying to plan a back to school cookout for the youth before the start back.
