4 Work It Out Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work or device or knowledge or wisdom in the grave where you are going. Ecclesiastes 9:10 God s Rules for Successful Living 1. I am the Lord your God. You shall have no other gods before me. Put God first in your life. God wants to shape everything you are and everything you do. Look to God for every good thing. 2. You shall not make for yourself an idol. You shall not bow down to them or worship them. Worship God, not His followers, or some image of God. 3. You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God. Take God seriously. Don t use His name lightly or in anger. 4. Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Take one day a week to worship God and learn who He is. Get together with others to worship. These first four commandments teach us what our relation to God should be. 5. Honor your father and mother. Honor and respect everyone who has authority over you; Your parents, teachers, supervisors, police. 6. You shall not murder. Do not do anything that will hurt someone else. 7. You shall not commit adultery. Keep your sexual activity within marriage. 8. You shall not steal. Do not cheat anyone. Treat others the way you want to be treated. 9. You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor. Do not lie or exaggerate. Do not say anything that will cause harm to someone s reputation. 10. You shall not covet. Be content with what you have. Look to God for every good thing. These six commandments teach us what our relation to each other should be. (The Ten Commandments can be found in Exodus 20:1-17.) When Jesus was asked which commandment was the most important; this is what He answered: Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength; this is the first commandment. And the second is like it; Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. There is no other commandment greater than these. Mark 12:29-31 Women s Auxiliary W.M.U. 5 The Music Ministry The purpose of the Music Ministry is to share the gospel of Jesus Christ through song, encourage believers in their walk with Christ, lead the congregation in worship and provide an avenue through which individuals may share their gift and be an integral part of the worship. The Music Ministry spreads the Word of God through music experiences Musical Ministers of Music - Rev. Anthony & Kimberly Nash Derena Goree - Minister of Music Miracle Temple St Paul District Charity Department President Sis. Vlessie Smith Secretary Sis. Pearl Matthews Treasure Sis. Edith Gibson 2012 Workshop Choir What is the Meaning of Christian Charity? Christian charity is mainly about loving one another. Christians are called to embrace their fellow man with their whole heart and soul; they are called to offer support to their neighbor through their thoughts and their deeds. Christian charity means giving with your heart, as well as your hand, and doing so without boasting or expecting anything in return. Charity is not just about giving to the poor; it is also about truly loving your fellow man. Dana Thompson Ministering in Song Page 5

7 The Good Shepherd After being chosen to pastor, I began searching for a true, concise understanding to what being a pastor looks like. Being somewhat familiar with the bible, it didn't take long to find Gods description of what a good Sheppard was. I ran across several verses that identified what a pastor was suppose to do and how he was suppose to conduct himself. Of course the first one that crosses my mind came from 1 Timothy 3:1-7, which showed me the character of a pastor. But the scripture that gives me a clearer understanding of what God wants and expects from his Sheppard comes from 1 Peter 5:2-4 which says "Be Sheppard of God's flock that is under your care, serving as overseers - not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not greedy for money, but eager to serve; not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock. And when the Chief Sheppard appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away". This scripture helped me to realize not only my responsibility to God but also to God's people. Understanding first that the flock belongs to God and not to the Sheppard, helps the pastor to keep the right perspective on how he deals with Gods people. God's people are not only created in God s image but also endowed with God's spirit; they are to be treated as treasure and not throw away trash. As a pastor watches over the flock, he must do so not because he feels forced to but because he has a love and a passion to please God and wants to do his best for God; knowing the joy of the Lord is our strength. This scripture also puts money in its proper place in the pastor s life. Money should never be the driving force in your service for God. How much or how little you receive should never affect the way you serve God. Our dependence on life and its necessities is entrusted to God because he said he will supply all our needs. Also we are to be eager to serve; when Paul said the Lord loves a cheerful giver, he wasn t just talking about money. Whatever we do for God, we should be happy and excited to be chosen by God for his purpose. It s not about us but it s about God. Last but not least, the scripture explains that we are not the exception but the example to doing God s will. We are to explain what God wants and show how it is to be done. In other words, walk the walk as we talk the talk; being doers and not hearers only of the word. The Sheppard is to lead by example. You can t guide sheep by telling them where to go; you have to walk with them using the word of God as your Sheppard s staff to guide them. And if we are obedient to God, we will receive; be obedient and be blessed. Pastor Ralph Beavers First Baptist Church Rev.
