The winners were: 1st Marnie Moyle 2nd Sue Simmons and Cathy Paterson 3rd Sue Carrington LUXURY WREATHS CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS INDIVIDUALLY MADE TO ORDER PLEASE TELEPHONE VERONICA SMITH We are happy to invite girls and boys of all ages (over 10 and up to 100+) to join in, and if bakers want to bring a companion who will also taste and score that's fine too - 2 each to cover costs. The next session is on Tuesday 1st November, when it's Lemon Drizzle Cake. General discussion suggests that the criteria we should be looking at are: overall appearance depth of lemonness (that may not be a proper word but we know what we mean!) texture Don't forget to bring: your cake, a copy of the recipe, something to set it out on plus your 2. See you at 8pm in the Village Hall. Andrea and Angela Or WIN EVERGREENS On Thursday 17 th November there will be a coach outing to Gloucester, leaving from outside West Ilsley church at 9.00 am. Downland Communion for All Saints This service is on Sunday 30 th October here in West Ilsley at 10am. It is the chance for us to worship with folks from the other churches in the Downland area and the service will be followed by refreshments. For All Souls, also on 30 th October there is a special service, a time of remembering and thanksgiving for those who have died. This is for anyone in the Downland area, especially those who have recently been bereaved, and this year the service will be held in Leckhampstead church at 4pm. The Downland Advent Carol Service starts the count down to Christmas on Advent Sunday, 27 th November at 6.00pm in St Mary s Church, Chieveley. Everyone is invited. Harvest All Saints church looked stunning with window sills attractively decorated with beautiful flowers, fruit and vegetables by our band of flower ladies. Additional harvest produce was donated by the children who attended the service and it was all received by Willow s Edge Nursing Home in Newbury, with much appreciation. There were not quite as many people as in previous years gathered for Harvest Lunch after the Harvest Festival service, but we all still thoroughly enjoyed the delicious cottage pies followed by apple pie or crumble and cheeses, kindly donated by numerous householders in the village. We would like to extend our thanks to all who provided these very tasty dishes as well as everyone who helped in any number of ways. Also, thanks to some of our younger members who did a sterling job selling raffle tickets. Autumn Clean Everyone who is willing and able please join us in an annual clean up of the church and churchyard, on Saturday 5th November at 10am. Bring your brushes, dusters and mowers to help prepare All Saints Church for Remembrance Sunday. SAFARI SUPPER ON SATURDAY 19 TH NOVEMBER AT 7.30PM (NOTE REVISED TIME!!) Everyone should, by now, have seen or heard about the Safari Supper. Arriving at the village hall at 7.30pm, you will gather for canapés and dessert later, but in between, be dined and entertained by one of several hosts around the village. You will not know your fellow guests until the night... Tickets for the Safari Supper need to be purchased in advance, and as soon as possible, from Sue Carrington, to ensure there is a main course waiting at your host venue for you on the night. Tickets guarantee you a delicious meal and a lot of fun in cordial surroundings, whilst bottles of wine can be purchased in the village hall before the main course begins. Cheques should be made payable to All Saints Church, West Ilsley. Come along for a fun filled afternoon! All Welcome. BLEWBURY BRASS BAND Blewbury Brass band are running a series of enjoyable "step up to brass" music courses, at their rehearsal hall beside the Blewbury recreation ground. The next course runs for 8 weeks starting on January 11th, playing each Wednesday
5 evening from 6.30pm to 7.20pm. There is also the opportunity to stay on and play with the main band afterwards as playing improves. The course is aimed both at youths and adults aged between 10 and 100 who can read music and play an instrument to something like grade 2, 3 or 4 standard - don't worry if you haven't actually taken the exams either! If there is sufficient interest, we can also provide group lessons for complete beginners. Perhaps you play in the school orchestra, maybe you played a brass instrument at school 30 years ago and fancy starting again. Or just maybe, you have a teenager who wants to play drums in a rock band and you'd like a peaceful evening once a week. Either way, this could be just your cup of tea. We provide good instruments and professional tuition, and all you need to provide is enthusiasm and 50. Instruments include Cornet, Trumpet, Tenor Horn, Trombone, Baritone, Euphonium and Drums.
