1 FAITH at WORK Faith Lutheran Church August 2015 Greetings, Sisters and Brothers in Christ Jesus, Amazing things happening around FLC in the past couple of weeks. Day Camp was a wonderful success with st -6 th graders attending. We had to have three great young adults from Camp Lutherwood lead us because we had so many children. One of the leaders was our very own Brandie!! And then there were the bunch of our own budding young adults who volunteered to help with all the wonderful children. I swear and declare: I think they had more fun than the Campers. And then there was the truly wonderful Kitchen Crew, who made the lunches and snacks for probably 35 people every day, kept the water nice and cold, as well as the volunteers who were at the front table for check in and check out of Campers. Everyone who participated was kind and gracious (who is surprised at that?), and, (don t tell then I told you this, but) I think they had just about as much fun as the kids did! And, I ve heard a rumor that Lutherwood staff begs to get to come to FLC because of the food and lodging provided by John and Paula D.. Please thank Dixie for all of her hard work putting together a team of volunteers to make this Camp the best ever (to date, that is. Wait until next year!). Some of you may have learned that if you see Alice W coming toward you, you might just as well say, Yes, I d be glad to volunteer. She s pretty good at that. Don t be surprised if you are forced to learn the hippopotamus song we all learned at Day Camp. You ll love it, too! As for me... well, I m still riding high about Day Camp. It s an amazing ministry of FLC, and it will have an impact on more people than we can imagine. We plant the seeds, God provides the increase. If I have missed any mention of others, please forgive me. Everyone involved, from toilet-paper roll and rock collectors, to all the mentions above, to those who prayed, dropped kids off, picked up kids, had a positive attitude, etc., was needed and blessed the Day Camp in many ways. (Continued on page 2) In and among all of our summer activity, please take time to thank God for sending Jesus that we might know the face of God among us. -Pastor Dawn Faith Lutheran Church 930 Queen Ave SW, Albany OR faithalbany@proaxis.com website: Pastor Dawn Gregg or In This Issue Church Announcements and Events Community Announcements and Events Missionary update Calendars

2 (Continued from page 1) Thank you. Also, I ve noticed there have been some gremlins around pulling weeds, clipping blackberries, cleaning out flower beds, and generally helping TOMs keep up with keeping the church grounds looking nice, even in this hot weather. Bless your weed-picking hearts! What else? Perhaps you have other things that we could add to our list of thank yous. Just say thank you to someone. Oh, and, August 29 th is my annual Backyard BBQ and Bash. This year, if I can afford it, you will receive a little piece of rib steak as I/we celebrate my new dental implants and ability (FINALLY) to chew real food. So, bring a chair and something to share and come on over anytime after 4 pm or so. All are invited. Bring the children. The Cool Pool is just across the street, as well as a basketball court, and there s always my backyard. (There will be soft drinks, water, and beer and wine. Feel free to bring what you like. Okay, that s all I can think of and Carolyn is champing at the bit to get Faith at Work out. In and among all of our summer activity, please take time to thank God for sending Jesus that we might know the face of God among us. I thank God in every remembrance of you, because I have you in my heart. Mailboxes The church mailboxes have been redone if you have been overlooked, let the office know you need one (see back page for contact info). If you haven t checked your mailbox in a while, try to get in the habit! Found one cell phone contact the office (see back page for contact info) September newsletter deadline August 15 Peace and joy, Pr Dawn Have you taken a good look at our sign recently? Not only are there enough letters to write messages (thank you Council), but the weeds growing under the sign have been removed. Lovely flowers now grace the bottom of the sign. Well done Pastor Dawn and Nancy. Thank you for spiffing up the appearance of our church. -Dixie D. School Kits contain essential supplies to help children---and in some cases, adults continue learning despite the hardships they face. And that learning leads to a better life for them, their families and their communities. INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING ITEMS IN EACH SCHOOL KIT: Four 70-sheet notebooks of wide- or college-ruled paper approximately 8 x 10 ½ ; no loose-leaf paper Five unsharpened #2 pencils with erasers; secure together with a rubber band One 30-centimeter ruler, or a ruler with centimeters on one side and inches on the other Five ballpoint pens (no gel ink); secure together with a rubber band One pencil sharpener One box of 16 or 24 crayons One blunt scissors (safety scissors with embedded steel blades work well) One 2 ½ inch eraser One sturdy drawstring backpack-style cloth bag approximately 14 x 17 with shoulder straps (no standard backpacks); recommended fabrics include heavy cotton, canvas, denim, and twill The school supply sales have begun and we have 75 backpack style bags ready to be filled with the supplies listed. If we get more than enough for the 75 bags, the extra will be used locally. The first 75 go for Lutheran World Relief.

7 Third Annual Midsummer Arts at Montieth Park, Saturday, August 1st Get your blanket and picnic basket ready then pack up friends and family for entertaining fun and a great collection of talent at the Third Annual Midsummer Arts on Saturday, August 1st, This free performing arts event will take place at Montieth Park from 10 am to 2pm on the first Saturday in August. There will be performances of ballet, gymnastics, singing, drama, Hispanic dancers, and more. Cafe Riviere will provide food and drinks for purchase. Visit the covered picnic area (the gazebo ) for several free arts & crafts activities for kids and families, and to meet some of the directors, leaders, and performers from our main stage entertainment. Midsummer Arts has received generous grant funding from the Linn County Cultural Coalition and Altrusa International of Albany. Without these funds, the festival simply would not exist. Thank you. Midsummer Arts is an all-volunteer, 501(c) 3 non-profit arts organization committed to engaging the communities of the mid-willamette Valley through greater access to local arts and cultural diversity, and exposure to historic downtown Albany. For more information: Contact: Michael Winder Phone: Web Site: midsummerarts@gmail.com Facebook: July 15 We leave tomorrow from O'Hare airport for South America. Details and prayer points are inside the attached letter. As you may recall, we moved into an apartment and rented our house to five football players from the University of Sioux Falls This has been a good change. Leaving from an apartment made our trip preparations much easier. We re thankful that the Lord prompted us to downsize and that He enabled us to move here during David s busy graduation weekend! Our cozy apartment feels like home, and we re able to enjoy easy access to bike trails. David s work and classes are nearby so he goes to and fro independently. We spent the week leading up to July 4th with Mike and Lindy in Minnesota. They were blessed with little Jada Hope on May 11th. She's even cuter up close than in this picture. Most of our time was spent with her four big brothers: Tristen (7-1/2), Elisha (soon 6), Jeremiah (soon 4), and Jace (2). We had lots of fun visiting parks, even canoeing and fishing with the older two. This is the first summer in many when we haven't been teaching linguistics in Grand Forks. What a blessing it is to have time to enjoy God's beautiful creation! (In addition to these five grandkids, we also have three in Sioux Falls: Mara (10), Alli (8) and Smith (4-1/2). Inside the letter you can read a little about their plans.) We have seen God's good hands at work in our lives and ministry. Thank you for interceding on our behalf!
