1 St. Mary s Catholic School Friday Notes, October 6, 2017 Look for these Friday Notes on the school web site and in your as well Math Goal of Computation I never get tired of telling all the great things going on daily here at St. Mary s. Just to give you a little snapshot of our day the pictures for this week are all the activities going on at one point in time at the school today. Hope you enjoy reading the notes on each! The visit from the Diocesan Education Department went very well. They were very complimentary of the school, the work our teachers and students do, and the planning we have in place to continue improving on the education we provide and the environment we create. The main instructional goal from the School Improvement Plan written last year was to increase math computation skills. To meet that goal, you will see homework targeted on fact practice and increasing fluency. We appreciate your Thank you! to Rosary-Making Volunteers. We will keep you busy in October! Thank you for your help. Please let me know if you may be able to help for an hour or two. Prayers For new baby EmRyn Olive DeWispelare! Congratulations Jared, Paula, and siblings McKie (K), Niles (PS), and LeLia! Please feel free to let us know of other prayer needs and joys to share with school families ( or call). time and patience working with your students on this important skill. I was glad to see this goal selected. In working with high school students earlier in my career I know firsthand the struggles students will have if they don t have these facts firm in their mind. The rest of math can become almost unbearable when it takes students too long to compute the addition, subtraction, multiplication or division facts. So, as tiring as it may seem to listen to strings of addition or multiplication facts, the rewards will be great for them in the future so the teachers thank you for your support at home! Oct. 7: First Saturday devotionrequested at Fatima (5 consecutive months: Mass, Communion, pray rosary, mediate 15 minutes on the mysteries, confession within 2 weeks) Oct. 9: NO SCHOOL teacher institute in Lincoln Oct. 10: Fire Safety Assembly 2:45-3:05 Oct. 13: 100 th Anniversary of Fatima, Consecrate school to Mary at Mass, blessing of Miraculous Medals from Bishop Conley Oct : St. Mary s Scholastic Book Fair look for complete details in stapled flyer. LOTS of fun, deals, and 2 big events (17 th, 23 rd )! Virtue for October Friendship: helping the people you like to be good (become saints/get to heaven) Sts. Benedict/Scholastica (gr. 1-2), Sts. Basil/Gregory Nazianzen (gr. 3-5) Challenge: Find a way to be a better friend to classmates (holy competition) All Saints Day All Saints Dress Up Day is Oct. 31. They can trial-run their outfits at the trunk-or-treat on Oct. 30 as well! You can find lots of fun, EASY costume ideas at: pinterest.com (search saints costumes for kids ) or CatholicIcing.com. Let me know and I will send them out! **Since we are so close to Fatima, it may be fun to have a sea of Lucia, Francisco, and Jacinta s if you are looking for an idea. (and it is an easy costume ** Coin War for Hurricane Victims $ so far! We will continue collecting donations through Oct. Students can bring in spare change to their classrooms and we will send it on to Catholic Relief Services for help victims in Texas in Florida. Charitable Charles replies: Suffering and evil come from man's abuse of his free will. Free will is an awesome gift from God because it allows us to love. He permits suffering and evil because the gift of free will is worth it. And God knows how to derive good from it. "We know that in everything God works for good for those who love him." (Romans 8:28) Suffering was not intended for humanity; it resulted from original sin. Yet God can still bring about good from suffering. For example, humanity can know more about the love of God through the example of Jesus' suffering for us. 6 4 th and 5 th Grade volunteers gave up recess to help get rosaries bundled up for students to make into rosaries during the month of October. (Had some technical glitches this afternoon so I ll get the rest of the grade level pictures up when we get back to school on Tue.)
