Snyder, Pastor OUR VISION The Columbia United Methodist Church is passionately committed to proclaiming God s Word, growing in the love of Christ, and using our gifts and talents to serve God in our church, community, and world. On January 31, 2009 the first meeting of our Executive Council was held at 8:00 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall of our church. This council meets on an every other month schedule in between the regularly scheduled bi-monthly Administrative Council meetings. The Executive Council is made up of chairpersons of all committees and teams. This group has been extremely dedicated and hardworking over the past couple of years. We completed a major consultation with Dr. Sharon Barley from November 2009 through May of We interviewed 70 of you to see what has been meaningful to you in the ministry of our church. And then we asked ourselves how do we get more of what has been helpful to you. Under my direction the Executive Council completed the proposed strategic plan that we formally adopted at a Congregational Meeting on March 20, Currently we are working with a second coach, Dr. Bill Easum, Co-Director of 21 st Century Strategies, one of the premiere church consulting firms in the United States. Columbia United Methodist Church was chosen as one of twelve high potential churches out of the 500 or so churches in our Eastern PA Annual Conference to receive this highly subsidized coaching. Dr. Easum is helping us create highly focused tasks based upon the goals of our strategic plan. Dr. Easum has a different approach than Dr. Barley. He has asked for pages and pages of statistical information on our church and community and for surveys of our church leadership. Then he makes recommendations based on that information. Dr. Easum s group has worked with over 1000 churches so they have a broad base of experience from which to draw on. I want to thank the leadership of our church for their excellent work and I ask for your prayers as we continue to lead Columbia United Methodist Church into a vibrant future. Pastor Jeff UNITED METHODIST WOMEN The United Methodist Women s meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 17 at 7:00 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. The program will be Legends of the Garden presented by Steve Gallion. Devotions will be led by Bonnie Varner. A love offering will be received. COMMUNION BEING OFFERED Maybe you re a person who unfortunately has to work on Sunday or for another reason you had to be out of town the first Sunday of the month and had to miss communion. At the request of some members, we are going to extend the Lord s Table and offer communion in the church chapel on the Tuesday following our monthly communion. It will be available from 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.; a self-serve communion of the elements from Sunday s church service will be served in communion trays. The Worship Committee hopes this additional communion offering will help enhance your Christian life. Tuesday night communion in May is scheduled for 6:30 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 3.

2 DOG WALK TO BENEFIT THE MATTHEW 25 PROJECT REPORT Receipts Monthly Mission Envelopes $ Year-to-date $ Expenses Second installment World Service Fund MONTHLY TREASURER S REPORT MARCH 2011 Income: $19, Expenses: $20, Sunday, May p.m. (registration begins at 1 p.m.) Rain date: June 5 Pre-register by May 1 st and receive a free gift. Registration fee: $5 per person. Even if you are not walking a dog, come join the walk and give $5 for our Matthew 25 project to help pay down the mortgage. Everyone must sign in on the day of the walk at the rear of the church. Pledges The walker who receives the most pledges (total dollar amount) will receive a $25 gift card. If you are not walking, find someone who is and make a pledge in any amount. Pledges must be paid prior to the walk. Route: Directions will be available at the registration table on walk day. Start at parking lot in rear of church. Walk down Walnut Street to River Park. Walk up Locust Street to 6 th Street. Turn right on 6 th Street to Janson Park at 6 th and Cherry Streets. Dog blessings will be available near the registration table on walk day. TOYS FOR THE PARK Small toys or gently used stuffed animals are needed for the Community Day event to be held in the Locust Street Park on May 28 th. There will be a box in the lobby for your donations. Toys and stuffed animals will be collected until May 8 th. Thank you for your support. Sponsors: If you would like to be a sponsor and have your name placed on the back of our T-shirt, the cost is $20. See one of our committee members: Joan Bellamy, Chuck Flory, Carolyn Flory, Mitch Heim, Kay Leader, Dave Lewis, Bev Von Stetten, Ed Von Stetten. T-shirts will be available for sale. To pre-order shirts pick up a form in the church lobby. Even if you are not walking a dog, come out to the Janson Park for food and fun. THE DOG PAW CAFÉ will be set up in a tent at Janson Park (6 th and Cherry Streets) and will feature food, soda and water. Tables will be available for your comfort. CHURCH WORK DAY There will be a church work day on Saturday, May 14 th from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Please donate a few hours to help spruce up our church. We need volunteers for weeding, gardening, painting and cleaning the carport. We ll have the supplies we just need your manpower (and womanpower!!). Judging will begin at 3:30 p.m. at Janson Park with prizes for Cutest, Ugliest, Best Costume and BEST OF SHOW. Please come and join us in the fun and help support the Matthew 25 project. By asking your friends, family, and co-workers to sponsor you, they can continue to offer the following services FREE: pregnancy tests, material assistance, Education on (pregnancy, fetal development, parenting, adoption, and abortion), Biblically based counseling, limited ultrasound exams, sexual intergrity education, post-abortion counseling. One child said, God makes mothers out of clouds and angel hair and everything nice in the world, and one dab of mean. To the question What does your mom do in her spare time? one youngster said, Mothers don t do spare time. When the children were asked, Why did God give you your mother and not some other mom? one child replied, God knew she likes me a lot more than other people s moms like me. It will be four exciting nights and three days of great music, inspired teaching, worship, camping, friends and much more. Registration is now taking place. Please give Joan Bellamy your name if you will be attending any camp so that members from Columbia can send you letters while away. *Camp Scholarships are also available for everyone that attends a camp. You must let us know you are attending a camp. The scholarships will be sent directly to the camp you are registered for. If you are graduating from High School or College in May / June of 2011, or graduated in Dec, 2010, please call the church office. Let us know where you did or will graduate from and which service you usually attend. We would like to recognize you at a special service and present you with a gift. +++ DOG WALK = MINISTRY OPPORTUNITY Do you belong to a ministry in the church? Want to share with others what you and your ministry does? Want more members? Then come set-up a display highlighting your special ministry for others to see on Sunday, May 22 2pm, during our Dog Walk. By setting up a display you will have the chance to share about your ministry to those who come for the day. You can have flyers, pictures of your ministry, freebees, etc all with your contact info on it. Who knows, your ministry may be what connects them to Columbia Church and ultimately Jesus Christ. HIGH SCHOOL Chente Moore Columbia High School 6/2011 MAY 5, 2011 National Day Of Prayer Our next YOUTH SUNDAY is on MAY 15 th at both services THEME: I WILL FOLLOW If you are a youth in 7 th 12 th grade and would like to participate see Joan Bellamy or call her at We need singers, greeters, speakers, ushers instrumentalists and more. Hope to see you then Boy s & Girl s Chrysalis is the name given to the Youth Walk to Emmaus. It symbolizes faith growth that is necessary between adolescence and adulthood. This spiritual growth will take place at Camp Innabah from 7:30pm Thursday 4pm Sunday, the last two weekends in February Boys go first weekend and girls go second weekend. Youth must have completed 9 th grade or older to attend. If you might be interested in the February 2012 Chrysalis Flight, see Joan Bellamy as soon as possible. Brochures are in the Narthex. Space is very limited and it will be on a first come basis with forms in. There are only about 30 spaces available and youth come from Pa. and surrounding states. June pm This summer, connect kids to God and watch them grow stronger in their faith as they discover God is WILD about them. As your kids explore Psalm 139, they ll experience God Listening to them Watching over them. And loving them NO MATTER WHAT! This will be a great week for kids. BUT HOLD ON! What about adults? This year there will be a special Bible study group for adults based on the same theme & stories. So bring the whole family and don t forget to bring your friends too! More info coming soon.
