For years, every time a new album came out I purchased it. While I enjoyed his music as a whole, I spent most of my time listening to only three or four songs on each album. They were my favorites. They stirred my heart; and I would often sing with those songs. After his first four or five albums, Steven put out a greatest hits CD. It had almost all of my favorites in one place. No more skipping songs on the other CDs. With today s mp3 players and ipods, where you can craft your own greatest hits set, my story doesn t seem all that amazing. But, back then, it was. Maybe some of you can relate. And still today, those songs from the greatest hits album immediately draw me in. What does this have to do with a pastor s article in the church s newsletter? Just this! Our church has a greatest hits album. God has put 150 people together in this congregation, and has crafted a unique church that is gifted and impassioned to bless our community with the presence of Christ from those strengths. Most, if not all of us, do not see our greatest hits. That is because we each carry pieces to the puzzle. Some of the pieces others are carrying will match a piece we are carrying. Some pieces that others are carrying may be totally foreign to us. Discovering our church s gifting and passion means sharing the stories about the pieces we carry. Your part of our greatest hits story comes from answers to questions such as; What are the best ministry and/or mission things we do or we ve done? Why? What is it about Holly Calvary that drew you here and/or kept you here? Why? What is the greatest blessing you get from being a part of Holly Calvary? Why? How has being part of Holly Calvary impacted your relationship with God? How have you perceived others growing in their relationship with God? Take some time this week to think, pray, and write. Then, bring it to church and give them to me or share it with our leadership team. 1 In His Grace, Pastor Cliff

2 ANNOUNCEMENTS Graduation is coming sooner than you think. The plan is to have the graduation reception on June 10 th. We need to know of any graduates from high school, trade school or college. Call the church office at and leave the name of the graduate, school and degree. Annual Craft and Auction The Auction will be held on November 6 th at the church. It seems far away but don t wait start working on those projects. Some large or unusual items would be nice. Hilary Ann Estes Applications are available and may be picked up in the church office Monday thru Thursday from 9 am to 2 pm or on Sundays from Marianne Nickels. All applications are due back to the church by May 15, The graduate awarded this scholarship will be announced on graduation Sunday, June 10 th. Please mark your calendars for our white water rafting themed VBS for kids aged K-6 th grade. It will be July from 6-8pm. The first 75 kids registered will receive a free VBS t-shirt! We have our station leaders in place! I am still looking for those who would be interested in volunteering to help with registration, decoration, and group leaders (those that take the kids around to each station). If you are interested in helping just one night or all week, please sign up in the hallway! We will be having our VBS volunteer meeting on Sunday, May 20 th after church for approximately minutes. We will get shirt sizes, sign forms and give general instructions. The United Methodist Women of Holly Calvary are sad to inform you that Andrea Maynard has decided to step down as president due to family Obligations. Julia Ford has offered to fill in for April and May but we will need a permanent president starting in August. Is God prompting you to lead? Please prayerfully consider serving in this important position. We ask that you join us in prayer as we pray for our next UMW president. The Young Adults would like to invite you to their May Event. We will be hosting a treasure hunt Saturday, May 19th. Here at the church starting at 3:00 p.m. For those of you that have not been involved in a treasure hunt, let me tell you a little about it. #1 Build a Team - Each team is made up of a car load of people. If you don t have a whole car load don t let that you stop you from coming...we will find you a team. #2 We will supply you with clues that will lead you to next clue and the next until you end up all back together for a celebration. Bring your best puzzle solving brain. Easy! Right? Look for a sign-up sheet on a bulletin board near you for more details to come. It will be great fun. 3 ANNOUNCEMENTS Grace. It s a game changer. And when never-ending love comes from God, it sometimes feels like more than you can take. Why does God want to have a personal relationship with me? You'll learn about various forms of grace prevenient grace, justifying grace, sanctifying grace, and glorifying grace and you ll come away knowing how God s grace truly works in your life. People like Hannah, Abraham, David and the like; their struggles, triumphs, temptations, even failures. Journey with us as we find that our times and trials are often not as different as we think, and that God allows and encourages people to be a part of His plans. 4 PRAISES Thank you to everyone that donated candy and helped stuff Easter eggs for our annual Easter Family Night! The outpouring of candy donations and toys was overwhelming!! GIFT CIRCLE would like to thank you so much for your assistance in helping us prepare food baskets for 10 needy families in our community! We could not have done it without you! A sincere and appreciative Thank You to the ladies of our church who participated in the Crossroad District United Methodist Women Prayer Breakfast on March 10. A special thank you to Lori Felch and Julia Ford who were dedicated to the success of this event, Carol Walker for the wonderful music, Dennis Reed and Glenn Carpenter for setting up, the UMW members who helped clean up, and G.I.F.T. Circle for taking care of the great Ingathering we received for our. I received a note today from Marie Weaver who is the Spiritual Growth leader for this group letting me know she received many compliments on the location, decoration, and the lovely ladies from Holly Calvary Church. I just want you to know you are a blessing and we are blessed, Janet A. Jenks GROUPS Jim Diegel Here comes our hot dog & bake sale soon from 11am to 3pm. It s at Holly Foods on a Saturday. I will let you know when it is here. Easter comes on April 1, Come to Worship on Wednesday nights. Mike and I play guitars. The UMW met on March 5 th with 10 women present. They enjoyed snacks and fellowship and then had their business meeting. Al women of the church are already members so come and join us. We meet on the first Monday of March, April and May at 6:30pm and again in September, October and November. Please prayerfully consider joining us as we do the Lord s work. Our next meeting will be April 2 nd. Holly Methodist Men- Saturday, April 7 at 8 am All Holly Calvary men and friends are invited to come to our next monthly meeting on Saturday, April 7 at 8 am at Villagers Restaurant in Holly. We will finalize plans for our spring Rummage Sale fundraiser (set-up Wed. April 18, sale April 19 & 20) and other business. Contact Ron Pease at We will be meeting on April 22 nd in April instead of our regular third Sunday. There will be no May meeting we will be having our annual end of the year dinner at Chili s in Flint on Thursday, May 10 th at 5:30 pm.

5 Library Corner - by Judy Wood FEATURES Angels- by Billy Graham I love this book. It tells about angels throughout the Bible. The angel sent to Abraham to tell him of the birth of a nation. An angel sent to minister to Hagar in the desert, Gabriel sent to Mary to declare the coming of our Savior and one to Joseph in a dream. Who can forget the two angels sitting on the stone rolled away from the tomb announcing that Christ was not there that He had risen from the dead! Come read about these behind the scene agents. God has a dream for your life - by Sheila Walsh This book shows the loving shepherd who left his 99 sheep to find that lost precious one. Read about Sheila s experience with depression and how her Shepherd found her and brought her back into the fold. Be reminded that God loves us in ways we cannot yet image. Come read about other real people who discovered God s dream for their life merged with great biblical insight. Some exchanged their old dreams for new ones while others received unexpected dreams from God that changed the course of their life forever. God Bless You Always and Happy Easter!! Bring them in, put them into the box in the hallway and VG s will donate money to our Mega Kids program! We collect Box Tops for Elementary Schools in Holly. Each one is worth 10 cents and they sure do add up. Please save them and drop them into the blue file pocket on the bulletin board in the hall. It s an easy way to meet your needs while earning funds for our church. 6 MINISTRIES OF THE CHURCH No Mega Kids April 4 th For spring break In April we will be studying the crucifixion, stop and follow Jesus and the Armor of God. This month come for a quiet night of games and or movies at our house in Ortonville. Remember to put May 19 th on the calendar for the Treasure Hunt! We would love to have some new helpers. If you can cut, iron, thread needles, or sew in stitches we need you. Come join us the third Monday of each month at 1:00. Do you have peace that surpasses all understanding; which only God can give? Do you pray for safety and peace for yourself, family members, friends, our church, our community, country, the world, etc.? Funeral Dinner Seven men & women make up the newly established Funeral Dinner committee with Janet Stack-Miller as chairperson and Rachel Ray as treasurer. This function was previously part of the United Methodist Women s group responsibilities. This committee will meet on an annual basis & funds that have been donated by families served (above the cost of food) will be transferred to Holly Calvary s general fund for operating expenses; such as utilities. This ministry will, however, maintain a base amount in their treasury to support dinners for families, if needed. Dinners will continue to be provided by the generous men & women who volunteer to donate food and/or work at dinners. If you would still like to sign up, please call the church office. 6
