Holiday Service On July 5th, there will be one service at 11:00am in the sanctuary. Rev. Fred Thompson will be our guest preacher. Summer Sermon Series This summer our preaching will be focused on what it means to be set free and transitioned by the Holy Spirit. Each Sunday we will examine the Fruit of the Spirit and reflect on the nine traits of the authentic Christian life. Save the Date... 2 WELCOME persons into the body of Christ UP * IN * OUT Wednesday, July 15 9:00 am to 12:00 noon Rising K-6th grade children are invited to meet in the Activity room. We will spend this time Glorifying God (UP), building strong Christian friendships (IN), and serving through church and community projects (OUT). Adult VBS 2015 Sunday, August 2nd through Thursday, Aug. 6th You are never too old for Vacation Bible School. Plan on attending the Ice Cream Social on Sunday at 6:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall then join Pastor David Greene in the Gomedela Room for a bible study by author Adam Hamilton titled Revival FAITH AS WESLEY LIVED IT. John Wesley s message and his faith continue to speak to 21stcentury Christians-calling for a revival of our hearts and souls so that our world might be changed. This six-week journey to England will take you through Wesley s land, life, ministry, and teachings. For Methodists, Wesleyans, and all Christians, Wesley s story is our story, defining our faith and challenging us to rediscover our spiritual passion. This class will meet Sunday-Thursday from 6:30pm to 8:00pm. Vacation Bible School 2015 Sunday, August 2nd-Thursday, August 6th 6:00 to 8:00pm G-Force, God's Love in Action >>> Make plans now to be a part of FUMC's VBS. An Old Fashion Ice Cream Social will kick off our VBS week on Sunday, August 2nd at 6:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall. The children will rotate to Fuel up on Faith, Science Lab, Creation Station, High Energy, and the Filling Station each night. On Thursday, August 6th please come and enjoy a hot dog supper and let the children share with you that in God we live, move, and exist, Acts 17:28a.

3 GROW as disciples of Jesus Christ Children's Ministries Summer Sunday School 10:00 am to 10:45 am Preschool 2-4 years, join Ms. Kim and Ms. Bev for loads of fun with the building blocks of faith. K-5th grades meeting in the "BeeHive" for the Beatitudes this summer. Welcome To The Best Place To Bee! firs you h HAPPENINGS Sunday School for Youth grades 6th through 9th meet with Lisa Johnson on the third floor corner room each Sunday morning at 10:00am. The Senior High Youth in grades 10th through 12th are joining the Young Adult Class for the summer. Amy Cable leads this group in the Activity room at 10:00am. SUMMER YOUTH SUNDAYS : July 12th and 19th we will meet from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm in the Fellowship Hall for music and word with Josh. Come and bring a friend! Wilderness Trail July 22nd -28th Wilderness Trail is held at Mt. Rogers, Virginia ( and is a ministry for rising 7th graders through adults. Attendees will have a 1 day retreat followed by backpacking on the Appalachian Trail. Cost is $225 per person. We have a few spots open, so please contact Julie in the church office if you are interested in participating.

4 SEND them to serve in the world New Hunger Walk in Catawba County THE BACKGROUND For many years in the past, ECCCM has conducted an annual CROP Hunger Walk in conjunction with Church World Services. This walk placed an emphasis on hunger, both in our community as well as on a global level. Through the years, Church World Services' emphasis on global hunger has become a major emphasis in CROP Walk, with a local (Catawba County) emphasis at a much lesser priority. Unfortunately, the need within Catawba County is still severe, with many of our residents experiencing food insecurity on a daily basis. To this end, in 2014, ECCCM distributed 1.4 million pounds of food to 16,000 qualifying families through our hunger programs. A NEW EASTERN CATAWBA COUNTY HUNGER WALK While we at ECCCM are concerned about global issues, we are also concerned about our residents, friends, neighbors, and associates who are in need of hunger program assistance. Clergy members from the Newton Ministerial Association agree that Catawba County needs are serious and that most churches are already involved in global mission work through the local church. To this end, the Newton Ministerial Association has affirmed its support of ECCCM's move to the new Eastern Catawba County Hunger Walk. With this newly forming local walk, 100% of supportive dollars will stay right here in Eastern Catawba County as ECCCM provides hunger relief to our community. The Eastern Catawba County Hunger Walk is scheduled for the usual annual day on the third Sunday of October: Sunday, October 18 beginning at 2 pm. THE FIRST PLANNING MEETING The first planning meeting for the Eastern Catawba County Hunger Walk will be held on: When -- Monday, July 13 at 2:00 pm Where -- First Presbyterian Church, Newton NC WE NEED YOU!!! You are invited to come and help in the planning stages of the new Eastern Catawba County Hunger Walk. Preliminary suggestions include returning the Walk back into the downtown Newton area with a larger involvement from, and visibility in, our community. As you are an important and supportive part of ECCCM's Hunger Programs, we want to hear from you: What elements are important for you or your church? What should be considered as we return to a traditional walk in town? What elements would be engaging to youth groups? Would your church be interested in helping with the Walk's event with "elbow grease"? What other comments, suggestions or questions do you have? Bring them with you! You are a part of reenvisioning the Hunger Walk that helps people in our community. Thank you for your participation!

You may also call Julie at the church office to volunteer. Peanut Butter and Jelly Sundays Bring a new, plastic container of peanut butter or jelly for Conover School! On the first Sunday of every month, First UMC will celebrate PB & J Sunday, a day designated for everyone to bring either a plastic container of peanut butter or a plastic container of jelly. These gifts will be given each month to the students at Conover School. Thank You!
