Clothing Drive For Habitat Your old clothes can help build a house this year! The Pentecost Team has chosen Penfield Coalition of Habitat for Humanity as one of our mission recipients this year. The Penfield Coalition of Churches is aiming to raise $65,000 in the coming months to build a new house this fall. Please help us with donations of any type of clothing that you can part with. The Habitat team sells most of the clothes at consignment fairs and whatever remains is then sold to a textile company. We will have donation boxes in the foyer for the coming few months. Thank you for your generosity. The simple act of saying welcome can set the tone for a worshipping community in a way that nothing else can. Greeters and Fellowship Hosts are very important throughout the year to make all people feel welcome and to help everyone make positive connections at PPC. The organization began in 1960, involves people aged 9 to 90 and works in over 1100 locations in over 180 countries with a staff of over 18000 people.

3 Easter Team Mission Initiatives Youth with a Mission (YWAM) and the Discipleship Training School (DTS) in the Dominican Republic Since 2006, Jan and Wes Kleppe, and recently Dr. Rodis Marinez and her daughter have been involved with a medical mission team traveling to YWAM and serving the needs of several very rural communities near Jarabacoa in the Dominican Republic. In that stretch of time, the medical team treated nearly 10,000 Dominican and Haitians. Also in that span of time, PPC has helped by donating medical supplies and financial aid. YWAM is a global movement of Christians from many cultures, age groups and Christian traditions, dedicated to serving Jesus throughout the world. The organization began in 1960, involves people aged 9 to 90 and works in over 1100 locations in over 180 countries with a staff of over people. The DTS School in Jarabacoa is directed by Joel Zamorano and his wife Val with their daughters Isabella and Alicia helping more every year. Typically, classes of young adults (Numbering students) spend 5-6 months in training. The first 3 months consist of lectures and discussions followed by a 2-3 month evangelistic and service outreach usually in a foreign country. On several occasions, Jan and Wes as part of the medical team was on location while a DTS class was in training. The medical team and the DTS class enjoyed each other s company in service, prayer, singing and sharing meals. The YWAM young people are missionaries-in-training and very inspiring to be with. It is hoped that their efforts may continue for many years to come. 441 Ministries (Web Site What has grown to be known as 441 Ministries began approximately 10 years ago when two families from Grace Church PCA felt the call to move into the Beechwood neighborhood of Rochester. Their hope was to live out their Christian faith before their neighbors. From engaging those nearby by simply being good neighbors, ministry to neighborhood children soon emerged, which quickly outgrew backyard settings. In 2007, 10 three day Bible Clubs were established at the park on Grand Ave. These happened monthly, averaging children nightly. Teams were supplied by various local churches. However outdoor children's activities don't work so well in January so these families started searching for building space to establish a ministry center. In 2011 space was leased at the corner of Parsells Ave. and Greeley St. in the heart of Beechwood, the space was renovated and Saturday Kids Clubs soon started, followed by a Farm Stand in partnership with Foodlink in In this year also funds were provided by Grace Church to purchase the property. These were followed by starting periodic Community Meals, Men's Bible Study, Summer Meals Program, and in 2013 Certified Christian Counseling and Narcotics Anonymous were added saw the Kids Club program grow, and in 2015 a Teen Mentoring Program was started which includes One on One tutoring. Summer 2015 two weeks into our Summer Meals Program a first time volunteer was shot as she exited her car on Parsells Ave. She returned 3 weeks later to share her experience with the children, and is currently teaching a foundational Spanish class to adults interested in urban ministry. In 2015 we also hosted the Beechwood Christmas Store where through the generous donations of local churches, businesses, and organizations, parents and caregivers were able to shop for gifts at greatly reduced prices and thereby provide their loved ones with a joyful holiday and maintain their pride. Currently we are launching the establishment of a Community Garden on Parsells Ave. through which we not only want to help our neighbors grow their own fresh produce but also offer regular classes on nutrition. Our biggest undertaking so far will be the creation of the New City Cafe on Parsells, where we hope to provide job skills and training, internet access and faxing capabilities, as well as a community gathering space. The Beechwood neighborhood is certainly not the worst neighborhood in Rochester, but it is plagued with extremely high poverty, broken families, drug addiction and crime. Our hope is to see hope, healing, and holistic development lift our neighbors up from those things which have them bound.

4 A Report About Mission Day The following is 11 year old Clare Mathes' report from Mission Day, which she shared extemporaneously to the congregation on Sunday. Our Mission Associate Jordan Sloat stated that the best part of his day was pulling grape vines from the Cameron fence line. Here is Clare's report: I went to Cameron Community Ministries where we began by working on removing weeds, garbage and vines around the building. After, we walked to Cameron s Community Garden. We removed weeds, rocks and tilled the soil. Finally, we went and saw how the free lunch was made and served to about one hundred guests. We game back to the Gates church for lunch and talked about our day, and what we learned, and what we might do differently next year. Some of the other work teams did things like learning about Mexican immigrants at the Covington Presbyterian Church, people needing help at Judicial Process Commission, the Rochester Presbyterian Home, Peoples Ministry ion Christ, painting bathrooms at Cameron Community Ministries, and experiencing permiculture with young adults at Lagom Landing. It was a fun and helping day. If you want to talk with me about what I did and what I learned, that would be great. Thank you. Our kids were really inspired about helping others. Two of our kids were on their first mission project ever. And probably for the 4th or 5th time in my life I cleaned up the Cameron fence line. This time I was prepared by bringing clippers with me! 5 Rural & Migrant Ministry (RMM) For many years, Rural & Migrant Ministry (RMM) has been a leader in the effort to pass the Farmworker Fair Labor Practices Act (FFLPA). The FFLPA seeks to end decades of unfairly excluding farmworkers from basic rights and protections afforded to all other groups of workers in the United States. This year, RMM is organizing a 200 mile march from Smithtown, Long Island to Albany, NY, to push for passage of the FFLPA. Beginning May 15, farmworkers and their allies will march for two weeks, to bring attention to the need for legislative action to end the inequality that currently burdens farmworkers in the state. Concurrently in Western New York we will hold three events in solidarity with the march. On Sunday, May 15, at 12pm in Buffalo, at Pilgrim St. Luke s Church (335 Richmond), we will hold a press conference and rally. In attendance will be supporters of the bill, including elected officials, faith communities, educators, union members and many others. The following Sunday, May 22, at Grace Episcopal Church, 9 Phelps St. in Lyons we will host a number of farmworkers and their allies for a mini-march and a meal. We will gather at 3pm. At 4pm we will march to the offices of Senator Michael Nozzolio and Assemblyman Bob Oaks, where we will leave a document stating our demands that farmworkers no longer be excluded from basic worker protections. And then at 5pm we will gather for a shared meal. RMM will provide the main dish (chicken) and everyone is asked to bring an item to share. On May 27 beginning at 12pm, there will be an event in the Syracuse area, organized by the Worker s Center of Central New York. We will meet at the Worker's Center, 2013 E. Genesee St. in Syracuse for a meal and a march to the State Building to visit the offices of state senators Velesky and DeFrancisco. Finally on May 31 and June 1, we will organize caravans to go to Albany to participate in Farmworker Albany Day, which is June 1. The May 31 caravan will leave western New York and meet up with the marchers in Glenmont, NY and join the march into Albany on June 1. The June 1 caravan will leave western New York, drive directly to Albany, participate in the day s activities and return that same day. Postcard Campaign: There are many ways to participate. We would particularly ask if you would be willing to have us send you 100 postcards, half addressed to Governor Cuomo and the other half to Senator Flanagan, asking them to push for passage of the FFLPA. If you could make the postcards available at your office, asking people to take a few seconds to sign them and then collect them, we would be happy to deliver them to the governor and Senator Flanagan. It would be great if you could also attend and invite others to attend one of the above events in your area. Please let me know if you would like for us to send you the 100 postcards. We could also provide an announcement or an insert for your bulletin, briefly explaining the campaign and the postcards.
