~ Message ~ MISSION STATEMENT We, the Seventh-day Adventist Church exist to preach the gospel to prepare the people in Peninsular Malaysia for Jesus Christ s second coming, by ministering to their physical, mental, social and spiritual needs through in-reach and outreach programmes of the Church. VISION STATEMENT To prepare our members for Jesus soon return and with united spirit evangelize the whole of Peninsular Malaysia. Within this period of time, they built a new Church for the villagers in Munggu Lalang, Sarawak, treated about 150 patients (medical and dental), and conducted a series of revival/outreach meetings. During the farewell gathering on Nov 4, Pr Gilbert Tan, the Executive Secretary of the Sarawak Mission told us that the presence of our team created a great impact on the villagers. The questions raised among the villagers were: (1) Who are these people? (2) Where do they come from? (3) How much the Church pays them to build the Church? The villagers curiosity provided opportunities for our Church Members to witness to their neighbours and friends about God s love. It is a marvel to them that people are willing to work so hard without any pay. They could not believe that our team members paid our own travelling expenses and raised funds to put up a new Church building in the village. As the medical doctor treated the patients and the dental technician extracted teeth for the villagers without any charges, they acknowledged that we went with love, the love of God. As Jesus helped, healed and taught the people, they listened and accepted Him. By doing missionary works in Sarawak, we were doing what Jesus Christ did when He was on earth although we may not be able to do what Jesus did exactly due to different ages and environment. But we still have something to do here for the people. I hope at least 5 Churches will set up a Community Health Centre by the end of By 2010, at least 50% of our Churches become a Community Health Centre. We have a full-time Health Director, and a model Community Health Centre set up at Cheras, Kuala Lumpur, for this purpose. May the Lord help us and bless us as we pattern after Him. Vision 2 Carry each other s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. Galatians 6:2, NIV.

1 ST IPOH ENGLISH CHURCH CAMP FROM AUG 31 TO SEP 2 SHARED BY PR TAN MENG CHENG: It was a wonderful fellowship and learning experience for all of us at the Pangkor Sea View Hotel. Pr Samuel Money (seated, 4 th from right) fed us our spiritual food with the theme The Closing Events on Earth. On Sep 1, Bro Immanuel Tan Zhen Min (seated, 2 nd from right) was baptized by Pr Money. BAPTISM SHARED BY MR CHAN OI KENG: Ms Lim Sook Fun (3 rd from left) was baptized into the Ipoh Chinese Church by Pr Terrance Sim on Oct 27. A close friend to Pr and Mrs David Lee, Ms Lim accepted Jesus when she was staying at the Malacca Health Farm. During her stay at the Health Farm, she learned about the teachings of Christ, and prayers brought her closer to God. After Bible studies with Pr Tan Meng Cheng (right), she decided to be baptized. FREE HEALTH TALK SHARED BY MRS RENITTA EDWARD: On Aug 19, the Sungai Way Indian Church members and Sunway Pathfinders joined hands together to conduct another free health talk and health screening for the Indian community in the Dewan of Block B10, Desa Mentari, Petaling Jaya. More than 150 people turned up for this event. We had to shut the main door temporarily in order to stop the overflowing crowd from taking the free BMI & Body Fat test, Blood Pressure test and Blood Sugar level tests! Pr James Edward (center), PEM Youth Director, presented a health talk. We thank the Lord almighty for blessing us with the crowd in which many were very keen to learn more about the causes and effects of healthy living. We plan to conduct more health services for the community. Thank God for giving us the privilege to serve the community around us. Vision 4 Apply your heart to instruction and your ears to words of knowledge. Proverbs 23:12, NIV.

~ Damansara Adventist Hope Centre ~ DAMANSARA ADVENTIST HOPE CENTRE S 1ST OUTREACH EFFORT SHARED BY MR SIEW KAM SOON (STANDING, 2 ND FROM LEFT): Mark 10:45: For the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many. Matthew 25:40: I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me. Aug 11 marked a milestone in the Damansara Adventist Hope Centre s (DAHC) spiritual development. Embracing our outreach vocation for the third quarter, a convoy of 13 members from DAHC paid a visit to in-patients at the Selayang Hospital, Kepong. The Sabbath afternoon was spent in uplifting interaction with the in-patients and spiritual administration to individuals in need. A briefing was given to the members beforehand by Mr Tay in order to prepare us for the practical work at hand. Upon reaching our destination, we separated into four groups to begin our ministry. Sharing, listening and praying together, members and in-patients alike drew strength from God s gift of companionship. Our outreach sessions are scheduled every 4 th and 5 th week of the month. This outreach is summed up in the words of our members below: GLENN: The Holy Spirit moves in mysterious ways. It is a wonderful feeling to pray for people of different faiths. LISA (standing, right): Jesus commanded us to love others, care for the oppressed, sick and poor. We have been blessed that we may bless others. Hospital visitation is carrying out what God has asked of us. Sometimes people just need a pair of listening ears. CHOOI JIN: Thankfulness God has shown me that there are others out there who are suffering in pain, loneliness, poverty and hopelessness Trust in the Lord and draw strength from Him He gave us the strength to approach strangers who are possibly in pain and not in their best of moods, and assures us once again that He can make all things possible (though it seems impossible at first) and fulfill the spiritual emotions of our souls friendship and encouragement as we go out in groups for service - I realized that it fosters a closer relationship among ourselves as well. YIM KHIM (standing, left): It was a very fulfilling experience; it was God's way of communicating to us how blessed we are to have normal, healthy bodies, and to take care of them like His temple. From our conversation with a lady who was stricken with SLE, we learnt how the disease affects the body's immunity. I thank God that we managed to cheer this lady up, at least a little bit during our short chat on that day. I hope to touch more lives, one at a time. KAI YEN (standing, 3 rd from right): Fulfilled spiritually because I could feel that God was using us to reach out to people, though at that time we felt that we could not do it. CHAVIT: I would like to encourage the Church to do more, especially for people in life threatening situations, because that is when they need us the most and we can be there for them. JASON: The hospital visit was a great experience as I was lost from God for a while and this trip helped me to recall what being a Christian meant. I was a bit nervous at first because it was quite a long time since I did any visitations and in addition, to strangers. This was a great experience that I can say made me understand more about the things Christ did. Note: Picture above was taken during a Paintball session the DAHC members and friends had on Jun 3. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God. Matthew 5:9, NIV. Vision 5

NEWSTART FOR PASTORS SHARED BY MRS JANE YAP, PEM HEALTH DIRECTOR: This was a dream-cometrue for us to have our very first NEWSTART for Pastors! those were the words from Pr Leong Fai and Pr Terrance Sim, the President and Executive Secretary of PEM respectively, during the conclusion of a 4-day NEWSTART conducted by the Health Department at the newly founded Adventist Community Health Centre in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur. Attended by about 45 participants, including Pastors and Pastors wives, the event started off with a comprehensive health screening which included blood tests, fitness test, BMI, % fat analysis, etc. COMBINED SERVICE SHARED BY PR EDWIN JOSEPH: On Sep 22, the Nibong Tebal and Kulim Indian Churches had a combined service and training on Why Personal Witnessing Is Important by Pr Matthew Mambu. It is a vital message for every Church member to know that it is a Divine Commission directed to every believer of Christ to proclaim the message of the second coming of our Lord. Pr Matthew concluded the training with a consecration prayer. The climax of the service was every Church member recommitted their lives to God. The 4-day programme (Oct 22-25) included both theoretical lectures on Nutrition, Exercise, Water, Stress Management, Sunlight, Temperance, Air and a session on relating healthy lifestyle with their relationship with God. Along with this, some practical demonstrations on cooking, flexibility exercises (picture above), aerobics, water-therapy and stress management were also included in the sessions. At the end of the programme, each participant was given a comprehensive report of their health status and a knowledge regarding their risks to some chronic diseases like Cancer, Stroke, Diabetes and Heart Disease. We can only praise God for making everything possible in His time! BLOOD DONATION SHARED BY PR EDWIN JOSEPH: It was held on Nov 4 at Bangunan Rukun Tetangga, Taman Sri Nibong, Nibong Tebal. We had the Adun Jawi YB Tan Cheng Liang as guest of honour to inaugurate this Blood Drive and Health Lecture campaign. The blood bank from Bukit Mertajam helped us. PEM Health Director, Mrs Jane Yap, and Nutritionist, Ms Rosalinda, gave a lecture on chronic disease. About 30 attendees benefited from this event. PICTURE LEFT, 1 ST BATCH OF KLEBANG YOUTH ALIVE GRADUATES SHARED BY PR DAVID KUMAR: 12 Klebang Youths attended the Youth Alive programme jointly organized by the PEM Health and Youth Departments held from Aug at NUBE Resort, Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan. All of them enjoyed being the 1st batch of Klebang Church youth attending such an excellent programme. Now they are planning to organize a similar programme for the local Church and community youth. We thank the ASI Metro Chapter for sponsoring these young people. Vision 6 An honest answer is like a kiss on the lips. Proverbs 24:26, NIV.

Pathfinder Giann Juena (right), who is also the Adventurer Club Director, reaffirmed by Dr Chew Yu Gee (left), pioneer and Elder of Kulim Church. ADVENTURER INVESTITURE IN KULIM CHURCH WRITTEN BY JIWAN, EDITED BY MRS MELODY CHEW: It was another humble little Sabbath worship in Kulim Church on Sep 22. However, that day was different as we had the first Investiture for the Adventurers! Four young Adventurers (non-sda and Church Members) were invested with the Busy Bee Class witnessed by their relatives and parents. What a witness to the community of Kulim as these people were in Church worshipping on a Sabbath because of the Investiture! The Penang Pearl Pathfinder Club was there to give support to this event. The whole troop of Pathfinders and Master Guides added life and colour to the event by taking over the Sabbath Church Service in their uniforms! They enjoyed the loud and energetic singing with the Kulim folks as it felt very homely and refreshing. Our Pearl Pathfinder Club Deputy Director, MG Steve Kuan, was delighted to be given the honour of presenting the Kulim Adventurers with awards and badges for which they had worked for throughout the year. It was an inspiring and heart-warming experience as we saw these young Adventurers receive their accolades, all the result of the hard work and commitment of their passionate, adventurous, determined and persevering teacher and director, Pathfinder Giann Juena Sibarani. The Adventurer Club was started by Pr Tay Song Wen in early The response was very good and it was the sole outreach for the little Church in Kulim. Due to unexpected circumstances, the pastor had to leave early in the year but Pathfinder Giann Juena, a young student of 16 years took up the challenge as the Director of the Club to run it. Pathfinder Juena is indeed an inspiration as she is the sole runner of the whole Adventurers Club, assisted by her supportive brother, Levon Sibarani and by Pathfinder Tan Yangson, who tirelessly drive out to Kulim every Friday. They were occasionally helped by volunteer Pathfinders from Penang Pearl Club. Despite living so far away on the mainland from Penang Island, Pathfinder Giann Juena travels by public bus every Sunday to join the Penang Pearl Pathfinder Club meetings to gain knowledge, work for her honours and pursue her Master Guide requirements. She is indeed one of our finest in the spirit of Pathfindering! May Pathfinder Giann Juena's enthusiasm to serve the Lord inspire us to give more of ourselves to the Lord. PICTURE LEFT, SHARED BY MRS LEONG FAI (RIGHT): Representing PEM, I presented RM (funds raised through the Community Department) to Ms Voomoabthi (left) on Oct 17. She is a handicap Klebang Church member. Another RM from PEM was also presented to her later in the day. We pray that these contributions will help her to replace an artificial leg, and resume her drinks-stall business. Praise be to the Lord, to God our Saviour, who daily bears our burdens. Psalm 68:19, NIV. Vision 7

TRI-CHURCHES EFFORT IN JOHOR BARU (JB) SHARED BY PR SAMUEL MONEY: The JB English, Malay and Tamil Churches held a combined evangelistic series in the Church hall during Oct. Using the theme, "The Seven Pillars of our Faith," the talks were given by Mr Robert Lee, Pr Abel Bana and myself. We were blessed with a few visitors who are currently attending our Sabbath School. Hopefully, they will be assimilated into our Church fellowship in due time. COMBINED CHURCH SERVICE IN JB SHARED BY PR SAMUEL MONEY: On the last Sabbath of Sep, the JB Tri-Churches held a combined Church service in conjunction with a musical programme led by a group of 33 ~ Good News from PEM Churches ~ choir members from the Likas SDA Church in Sabah. The attendance was overflowing, so much so, that there was no room for many of them who came late! After the musical programme, there was a lunch fellowship for all. The following day, there was a tour organized for the choir members around JB city. The group flew home after the tour. GOTONG-ROYONG IN JB SHARED BY PR SAMUEL MONEY: Without fail for the past many years, the JB Tri-Churches conduct quarterly "gotong-royong" or "clean up" programmes, usually on a Sunday. The "gotong-royong" is considered the day of Church reunion for all her members from the three Churches. Usually about 2 dozen souls would turn up, and vigorous work would be done in cleaning the Church compound. Some of the members will clean the fish pond, some will pick up leaves and papers, some will sweep and mop, and others will wash the toilets. Always, after the hard day's work, we will all sit together in a circle and have a refreshing meal cooked at our Church kitchen by some of the dedicated ladies of the Church. MEGAH RIA CHURCH RENOVATED SHARED BY PR SAMUEL MONEY: The Megah Ria Church went through an extensive renovation in June, and today, the beautiful and adorable Church Building is complete with marble flooring and two 3-horse power air-conditioners at the main hall. The Church is immaculate in cleanliness now, and it is one of the best shop-lot Churches in Peninsular Malaysia today! YOUTH ALIVE IN PEM SHARED BY MRS JANE YAP: It was a momentous occasion when 150 young people and adult facilitators gathered at Port Dickson for a weekend camp called YOUTH ALIVE. It was the first in almost 10 years that PEM initiated this programme, and the atmosphere of friendship, connectedness, and fun was very much apparent in the lives of everyone! The messages of Elder Victor Roach, a Substance Abuse expert and truly a man of God were well received by the young people, not forgetting the workshops conducted by Pr Simon Siew and Pr Gration Perera on Boy-Girl-Relationship, Pr Matthew Mambu on How to Develop a Deeper Relationship with God, Pr George John on Time & Money Management and Ms Rose Solano, on 7 Health Habits of Highly Effective Young People. Joe Rey Dayahan and Lalaine Alfanoso, Youth Alive trainers from the Philippines, did a very good job in facilitating the whole programme. There was no doubt that the Youth Alive fever has caught on with everyone, as during the altar call, there were close to 40 young people responded to have a deeper relationship with God, some of whom have already signed up to dedicate their lives as missionaries for 1 year. Look out for the next Youth Alive camp in the Northern and Klang Valley regions in 2008! Vision 8 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. Proverbs 3:5, NIV.

NEW KLEBANG SDA CHURCH BUILDING COMPLETED SHARED BY PR DAVID KUMAR: Aug 12 marked another milestone in the history of the Klebang Church as the new Church building was completed. We thank God for His providence and all the Vision readers for the many prayers. Currently, we are still waiting for the CF, please continue to pray for us. OUTREACH Studying Together by Mark Finley Get this book, at only RM1.00, for your friends and relatives this Christmas! Please contact your Church Pastor for your orders today! SARAWAK FIELD SCHOOL OF EVANGELISM SHARED BY PR DAVID KUMAR (RIGHT, STANDING BEHIND): I was one among the other 5 pastors from PEM led by Pr Matthew Mambu (right, standing) to attend this training by SAUM Ministerial Department. It was a wholesome evangelistic experience in Serian town near Kuching, Sarawak, from Oct For most of us, it was our first time to speak in Malay during an evangelistic meeting. Daily classroom training by Pastors H E Sinaga and Edmund Liah coloured our nightly meeting in 4 different villages, where we were assigned as the co-satellite meeting speakers. Pr Tan Meng Cheng was assigned to Kuhas, Pr Pragash Muthiah to Lanchang, Pr Petrik Andrews (right, next to Pr Matthew) to Ampungan and Pr Gerard Bernard and I to Labak Tungan village. We gained many experiences through attending this meeting and we hope to use them to conduct regular evangelistic meetings in our local Churches. SPECIAL TRAINING FOR CHILDREN DEPARTMENT LEADERS SHARED BY MRS LEONG FAI: On Nov 3, Mrs Sim Siew Moi (right, at the rostrum), the Union Director, covered topics including Children Development, Positive Discipline and Handiworks for teenagers. Ms Gan Hee Mei and Ms Koh Soo Bee also shared their knowledge on how to teach singing. Representing PEM, I showed the materials produced by the Children Ministry Department. Please pray for Mrs Sim s return on Jan 6, 2008 to conduct one more training. Be exalted, O Lord, in your strength; we will sing and praise your might. Psalm 21:13, NIV. Vision 9

HEALTH SCREENING IN JOHOR BARU (JB) SHARED BY PR SAMUEL MONEY: Perhaps for the first time in the history of the JB Church, a Health Screening programme was conducted in the new cabin of the Church on Oct 7, with the help of Mrs Jane Yap and her husband, Allan, and some assistants, who came all the way from Kuala Lumpur for this purpose. They brought the essential health measuring equipments and more than 70 people turned up. The space below the new cabin was a hub of activities that Sunday morning with everyone being served by the Health Team. We had a lunch fellowship for the helpers after the health screening ended around 2pm. TRI-CHURCHES PICNIC FOR JB CHURCH MEMBERS SHARED BY PR SAMUEL MONEY: The 3 Churches in JB held a combined Church retreat on Sunday, Sep 23, at the Tasik Dahlia, Pasir Gudang, with more than 30 souls in attendance. The Bahasa Church members, who are school teachers in the public schools in JB, organized group games for everyone. The games included tug-of-war, bursting the balloons and running-in-sacks race. A Bible quiz was also conducted. At the close of the picnic, we had a lunch fellowship. Food was brought by the Church ~ Good News from PEM Churches ~ members, and we shared what we had and had more than enough and the left-overs were distributed among ourselves! MEGAH RIA CHURCH REJUVENATED SHARED BY PR SAMUEL MONEY: With the arrival of Pr Abel Bana, the new intern pastor who arrived in the middle of Aug, the Megah Ria Church is rejuvenated! He has been actively involved in visiting and gathering the absent members back to Church fellowship. The Megah Ria Church, which usually had a Church attendance of about 35 people each Sabbath in the past, now has doubled or more, until so much so that there is no space for some to sit in the Church hall during the sermon time. Praise God for blessing us with an energetic pastor! RED PACKET DAY FOR MEGAH RIA CHURCH SHARED BY PR SAMUEL MONEY: In July, we had a redpacket day for the Megah Ria Church when it received two student missionaries --- Marvin and Frendy from Penang! They were sent by PEM under a special programme called, 1000 Missionaries for Christ. They will serve the Megah Ria Church for a period of 6 months until the end of Dec this year. Their presence had boosted the growth and wellbeing of the Church. YOUTH FELLOWSHIP DINNER SHARED BY PR DAVID KUMAR: Klebang Church has been blessed with a group of dedicated young people who actively participate and contribute to the local Church activities. On Sep 6, my family organized a dinner for all of them as an act of appreciation, at Sungai Siput (U), Perak. Ms Daisy Rani (right) also celebrated her birthday! CONGRATULATIONS to Ms Santhamary of Klebang Church and Mr Martin Luther of Banting Church on their wedding held at Ipoh Church on Sep 9. This good news is shared Pr David Kumar, right, standing behind. 22 ND ANNUAL INDIAN CHURCHES CAMP MEETING SHARED BY PR DAVID KUMAR: Around 203 Church members from PEM attended this annual camp meeting held from Aug 31 to Sep 2 at Barre I J Center, Tanah Rata, Cameron Highlands, Pahang. This year, we had Pr Daniel Devadhas from India as our camp speaker. We praise God that his end-time messages renewed our commitment and dedication. We would like to thank God and Klebang Church (host Church) and all the dedicated camp committee members for the contribution towards the success of this camp. BEHOLD I AM COMING SOON Maranatha, come Lord Jesus! Vision 10 Buy the truth and do not sell it; get wisdom, discipline and understanding. Proverbs 23:23, NIV.

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Matthew 5:8, NIV. Vision 11

WE ARE HERE TO SERVE SHARED BY MRS LEONG FAI: In conjunction with the I am Hungry project, the Sungai Way and Petaling Jaya Chinese Church members, including Pr and Mrs James Edward, Pr Andrew Hau and Pr Robert managed to deliver 1,000 packs of rice and curry to the needy who were stranded at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport some months ago. Sungai Way Church members were in-charge of cooking and packing. All members who served in this community service were content with their outreach effort. COMMUNITY SERVICE SHARED BY MR JEFFREY JAMES, COMMUNICATION LEADER OF SUNGAI WAY CHURCH: On Jun 22, the Sungai Way Church members and youth conducted a free Basic Computer class in our Church. In order to let the community know about this class, we distributed leaflets a few weeks ahead. The class was conducted by Brother Daniel Victor Philip and Pr James Edward. The Church was arranged into a classroom setting with 10 computers for display and practical sessions with various operating systems installed. Many youngsters and their parents turned up for the class. The theory and practical sessions lasted more than two hours. One of the parents, who is also our Church member, was so happy with our outreach spirit that she decided to enroll her two kids into our Pathfinder Club! Praise the Lord. God is really great. We are glad that our service is being blessed by God and also, I would like to thank all the good souls who have helped us for the class preparation. CANCER AND DIET TALK HELD IN KUALA LUMPUR SHARED BY MRS JANE YAP, RN, MN (RIGHT): With the aim of promoting Cancer awareness to the community, the newly set-up Adventist Community Health Centre (ACC) headed by myself organized a 2-hour seminar on the relationship of Diet and Cancer Survival and Prevention in the Cititel Hotel, MidValley Kuala Lumpur on Nov 12. There were 3 speakers, namely: Dr Hope Ferdowsian (left), a nutrition researcher, physician and public health advocate and currently the director of the Washington Centre for Clinical Research in Washington DC USA, she was the main speaker during the night; Dr Pang Chu Yen (2 nd from left), a preventive medicine specialist who completed her doctorate in public health from Loma Linda University and has more than 10 years of experience in helping people with chronic diseases, guiding them towards lifestyle changes; she runs a wellness clinic in Selangor, Malaysia; and lastly, Ms Rose Solano (3 rd from left), a registered nutritionist and dietician who graduated from the University of El Salvador and is currently serving as a nutritionist/dietician at ACC, she contributed on the topic Phytochemicals and Cancer during the said seminar. The event was well attended by mostly non Seventh-day Adventist members and it was apparent that the public appreciated the talk. There was a question-and-answer raised at the end and many people from the audience raised important questions about the importance of choosing healthy diet in relation to cancer prevention and survival. The night was a great avenue to promote the programmes of the Adventist Community Health Centre and many expressed their desire to visit and attend during its official opening which will be held on Nov 25 by the honoured guest YB Datuk Ong Tee Keat, who is currently the Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Malaysia. Indeed, if Seventh-day Adventist Christians will practise what they profess, they will be a spectacle to the world. Ellen G White Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 14 HEALTH TALK ON BREAST AND PROSTRATE CANCERS AND LIFESTYLE SHARED BY MS MARY NGEOH: A free health talk was held in Kuala Lumpur English Church on Sep 8 at 2:00pm; organized by the collaborative efforts of the Health Department of PEM and Kuala Lumpur English Church. Andy Ng, Dr Ph & Preventive Health Director of Pacific Health Education Centre in Bakersfield, California gave a talk on Breast and Prostate Cancers and Lifestyle. His animated and lively presentation got the attention of almost 70 people present. Below is an excerpt of what Breast and Prostate Cancers are: intake is claimed to reduce risks. Also, a variety of plant ( phyto ) chemical are rich in elements called isoflavones. Certain plants and legumes have high levels. Soya beans, serenoa and red clover probably head the list. These are widely used by males, probably from the age of 40 onwards. It is believed they improve prostate health in general, and research indicates they may play a part in reducing risks of prostate cancer. Notes taken from Family Medical Care, please contact Ms Mary Ngeoh at (019) for more information. Breast Cancer--Symptoms. In the majority of women (about 80%) the chance discovery of a painless lump in the breast is the first sign. Less frequently, there may be other tell-tale symptoms, such as discomfort in breast. Or there may be nipple symptoms such as erosion of the nipple, itching, redness, retraction or discharge. The breast itself may show signs of redness, or generalized hardness, enlargement or shrinkage, or a pitted appearance. Thus, every woman should become proficient in regular breast examination. For Men Only--Prostate problems. Prostate cancer is the most common cancer of men in the over-45-years age group. Early diagnosis and treatment are essential. If left, it is uniformly fatal. GOTONG-ROYONG SHARED BY PR EDWIN JOSEPH: On Sep 23, a group of Nibong Tebal Church Youth members helped out in the Church gotong-royong which is held every once a quarter. The Youth were very happy to make the worship hall sparkling clean. We thank the Youth for their involvement, not only in Church activities but also in taking care of the Church welfare and rising needs of the ministry. May God bless all the Youth! Prostate Cancer--Symptoms. Frequently there are no symptoms. Common ones include slow but increasing difficulty in urinating. It may take a few seconds to initiate the flow, the stream may not be forceful, and there may be some dribbling afterwards. Occasionally blood may be seen at the conclusion of urinating. Benign enlargement of the prostate occurs in nearly all men as they grow older. Almost all males suffer enlargement of the prostate. The chief problem with advancing enlargement is that there is an increasing resistance to normal urinary outflow from the bladder. Preventing prostate disease before it starts is always a good idea. Reducing the daily fat PICNIC SHARED BY PR EDWIN JOSEPH (SEATED, LEFT): On Oct 13, the Kulim Church members organized a picnic at Dam in Kulim. We had a service at the site, surrounded by the great nature. We also had Bible quizzes to refresh our minds. This special outing had given all of us a chance to further study on the words of God, and to truly understand His purpose for us on this earth. We thank God for the good weather, and the time for us to fellowship together. Vision 14 Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. Proverbs 3:7, NIV.

Children s Nutrition ~ by *Ms Rosalinda Solano, Nutritionist, June 15 ~ Food and feeding is a vital part of the whole development of the child, therefore proper nutrition in childhood can reinforce lifelong eating habits that contribute to the children s overall well being and help them to grow up to their full potential. We need to consider first the individual growth and development, understanding that, growth is an increase in size that occurs through cell multiplication; and development is the associated process in which growing tissues and organs take on increased complexity of function. Both of these processes are part of one whole and through these changes a small dependent newborn is transformed into a fully functioning independent adult. In the infancy (first stage of the human life cycle) the growth velocity is rapid during the first year of life, with the rate tapering off in the latter half of the year. At age six months, an infant has probably doubled the birth weight and at one year may have tripled it. In the latent period of childhood (second stage of the human cycle), that is between the infancy and adolescence, the growth rate slows and becomes erratic. At some periods there are plateaus, at others, small spurts of growth occur. The overall growth deceleration affects appetite accordingly. At times, children will have little ~ ~ or no appetite, and at other times they will eat voraciously. Parents should know that this is a normal pattern and do not make eating a battleground with their children. Nutrition for children is essentially the same as nutrition for adults. In fact, everyone, regardless of age, needs the same types of nutrients, such as, carbohydrates, protein, fat, vitamins and minerals just in different amounts. During childhood, the demand of more nutritive elements and energy is relatively great due to the development process, although there are variations that depend on the age, the condition and the physical activity of the child. The recommendation of the energy intake proportion is 50% to 60% of carbohydrates which is the primary energy source, 25% to 35% of fat and 10% to 15% of proteins. It is important to mention that an inadequate intake of the nutritional requirements can put at risk the child s health. A well known risk is malnutrition; this one has been responsible, directly or indirectly, for 60% of the 10.9 million deaths annually among children under five. Over two-thirds of these deaths, which are often associated with inappropriate feeding practices, occur mostly during the first year of life. No more than 35% of infants worldwide are exclusively breastfed during the first four months of life; complementary feeding frequently begins too early or too late, and foods are often nutritionally inadequate and unsafe. Malnourished children who survive are more frequently sick and suffer the lifelong consequences of impaired development. There is also a rising incidence of overweight and obesity in children and it has become a matter of serious concern. Because of poor feeding practices, these are major threats to social and economic development and they are among the most serious obstacles for attaining and maintaining health at this age group. *Ms Rosalinda Solano is a registered Nutritionist and Dietician. A Salvadorian by birth, Rose graduated last year at the University of El Salvador; she then continued to be trained in the area of Preventive Health at Pacific Health Education Center in California. Her passion is serving Jesus through the community, especially the young people. She speaks 3 languages namely, English, Spanish and French. She is currently stationed at the Adventist Community Health Centre at Cheras, Kuala Lumpur. Many health programmes are offered, please call for more information. Note: Please log on to PEM s new Health website at treasures.com for more health facts and tips. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Matthew 5:5, NIV. Vision 15
