2 B eloved brothers and sisters in Christ, welcome to Son-rise Service Let us focus our eyes on God, meditate on his goodness to us and on what Jesus has done. With these words, "Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done." (Luke 22:42), our Lord Jesus thrust himself fully into his loving Father s hands. Hours later, he was crucified and died an excruciating death on the cross for our sins. His disciples all scattered and one even denied him three times. However, the greatest miracle that happened after Jesus death, was his resurrection, which we commemorate today. No other faiths or religions can ever claim their founder to have resurrected to eternal life, except Jesus. This is the reason why we gather and celebrate. As we worship on the beach this morning and watch the sun rise, Let us acknowledge the LORD; let us press on to acknowledge him. As surely as the sun rises, he will appear; he will come to us like the winter rains, like the spring rains that water the earth." (Hosea 6:3) Not only has the Son risen, soon, He will return. 11 Testimony of Geraldine Yeo I wanted to follow Jesus as young as 8 years old but my grandma discouraged me. Reluctantly, I obeyed. I grew up, met Bernard in secondary school and in 1980, we got married. In 1988, I joined him at our hair salon business and we grew the business together. Deep down I felt there was something missing in my life. Bernard, meanwhile, had unpleasant encounters with Christians who couldn't give him satisfactory answers to his many questions. The angrier he got with them, the more they made him feel condemned. Meanwhile, he was going from one medium and temple to another searching for spiritual experiences, blessings and good luck. In 1999, Bernard suffered kidney problems and needed dialysis. He was very depressed as kidney problems ran in his family. In fact, his 3rd brother & 1st sister passed away with kidney problems. So, I advised him to go to church. But at the church we went to, we heard the speaker condemn all who went to other gods. That made him feel worse. As we operated our hair salon, some of our clients who were Christians reached out to us and they didn't make us feel condemned. Instead they listened to us, as much as we probed them with difficult questions. One of them is our regular client, Benjamin. For years, Ben and his wife, Audrey, kept sharing their faith with us. Earlier this year I told her about my health problems, as my lower back and ankle had started to give me pain. She offered to pray for me. I felt better after her prayer and I knew that God was answering my prayers. When I told Bernard about it. He was sceptical. Around that time, another regular client, Rosalind Lee, a member of BFEC, invited me to visit her church. On Sunday 5 February, I came to the 8am service. On hearing the hymn, Amazing Grace for the first time, I started to tear. I couldn't explain why. I came again the following weeks, and whenever the hymns or songs were sung, tears started rolling down my cheeks. I was touched by the message in the songs. God was working in my life! All this while, Bernard stayed away from church. He told me, "I ll give you 3 months and it'll be over." 11 When I heard that baptism classes were starting, I was torn. How can I get baptised if my husband doesn't believe? However, by faith, I decided to sign up. At the first lesson on 5 March - half the time I was listening to the lesson and appreciating it but the other half of me was troubled. I prayed, "How, like that, God? Please reach out to my husband. Only you can!" When I reached home after church, I was shocked beyond words! Bernard had removed the many idols in our home. The next big shock was when he told me he had made a decision to follow Jesus and had prayed to ask Jesus into his life. Wow! I could see he had a complete change of heart! God indeed answered my prayer so quickly by touching my husband's heart! And what's more, he said he too wanted to be baptised! So, the following Sunday on 12 March, he came to BFEC and joined me for lesson 2! Hallelujah! My prayer was answered and I was so happy! Later that week, Elders Alex and Danny came to our house and salon to do spiritual cleansing and prayers. The Lord gave me another assurance that He is pleased I'm giving my life to him through the waters of baptism. I'm the oldest girl in my family though I have an older brother. My siblings are not Christians yet. Though I am old enough to decide, yet deep down I wanted them to know about my baptism without them being upset with me. I went back to God in prayer, "How ah, God? How do I break the news to them?" Soon after, my 3rd sister Lu called me to meet for lunch. This is very unusual. I knew God was working. When we met, I said, "I need to tell you something. I hope you won't get upset. But I wanted you to hear it first. I've decided to be a Christian and I'm getting baptised." Before I could finish, my sister asked me, "Are you happy?" Of course, I told her, "I'm very happy". Then she said, "In that case, I and our siblings will be happy for you too." Indeed, we received blessings from all my siblings! I knew this was all God's favour in arranging this and preparing her heart. This morning I'm so happy to be baptised together with my husband, Bernard. We are both very grateful for Rosalind Lee, as well as Audrey and Ben, whom we've asked to accompany us into the water to share our joy. Thank you, God. And thank you all for sharing our joy.
