Dominic Tumusiime, AJ, Parochial Vicar Deacon Robert Parenteau Deacon Kevin Jacques Message from Monsignor René Mathieu: (1) Revised Summer Mass schedule changes: Contrary to what I printed last weekend, we will NOT add a 8:00 am Monday morning Mass at St. Margaret; One of the priests always takes a day off on Mondays and the possibility of a funeral can make scheduling difficult. However, during the St. James School summer recess, the 8:30 am Wednesday Mass at St. James will give way to an 8:00 am Mass at St. Margaret beginning June 21. Beginning June 25, the two Sunday Masses at St. Margaret will be celebrated at 8:00 am and 9:30 am to avoid summertime traffic later in the day; on the same day, a 9:30 am Sunday Mass will be added at St. Brendan. (2) Ordination to the Diaconate Bishop Deeley has called Mr. Kevin Upham to ordination to the (transitional) diaconate in our diocese. Kevin will be ordained to the order of deacons at 10:00 am on Sunday, June 18, at the Cathedral in Portland. All are welcome. God willing, he will be ordained a priest next year. (3) Two weekends ago was Commitment Weekend for the 2017 Catholic Appeal. If you have not already done so, please be thankful, intentional, and prayerful as you complete your gift form. If you have yet to complete the form, I invite you to do so this weekend. Please do not place the form in the offertory basket; you may give the form to an usher or priest at the end of Mass, or deliver it to the parish office. (4) From Pope Francis apostolic exhortation on the joy of the family, Amoris Laetitae: The Joy of New Beginnings (preparation) The Synod Fathers stated in a number of ways that we need to help young people discover the dignity and beauty of marriage. They should be helped to perceive the attraction of a complete union that elevates and perfects the social dimension of existence, gives sexuality its deepest meaning, and benefits children by offering them the best context for their growth and development (n. 205). Marriage preparation should be a kind of initiation to the sacrament of matrimony, providing couples with the help they need to receive the sacrament worthily and to make a solid beginning of life as a family (n. 207). Both short-term and long-term marriage preparation should ensure that the couple do not view the wedding ceremony as the end of the road, but instead embark upon marriage as a lifelong calling based on a firm and realistic decision to face all trials and difficult moments together (n. 211). A possible Joy in Action for this week: Celebrate the beginning of the Church, Pentecost, by holding a birthday celebration. Perhaps, buy or bake a cake for the occasion. (5) Seasonal Maintenance Projects: Some parishioners were curious to find the front doors of the rectory removed for nearly two weeks in May. It was an opportunity for a staffer and volunteer to repair & re-finish the antique doors. Among other projects, we will be addressing defective roof shingles at St. Philip and St. Margaret unfortunately much sooner than expected. Both used shingles by the same company, now gone out of business. We have made a request of the Diocesan Finance Council to allow use of (patrimony) funds from sale of properties to cover the cost. Also, Most Holy Trinity will be taking advantage of the availability to connect the property to natural gas this summer. Unitil installs the gas line and regulators at no expense, but the parish must cover connection and conversion cost for each HVAC unit and furnace on the property. Currently, these appliances all run on propane. (6) Thank You of the Week: To the parishioners who worked with parish staff to plan and work behind the scenes to enable many to enjoy the national production of Faustina: Messenger of Divine Mercy on May 26. Learn the purpose and significance of an Advance Health Care Directive, Durable Power of Attorney, and a Last Will & Testament. Questions will be welcomed. All parishioners are encouraged to attend the program on June 20 from 10 am to noon in the MHT hall. Copies of the booklet will be distributed. Preregistration is not required. The Importance of Memorials Throughout the Scriptures, we see God commanding His people to build memorials and giving them signs so they would remember what He had done for them. God knows how important reminders are to us because we are prone to forget His goodness and mercy to us. Examples: 1) God put a rainbow in the sky as a reminder of His promise not to send another flood. 2) Solomon built a beautiful Temple in Jerusalem as a place of worship. 3) Jesus commanded us to observe the Lord s Supper as a reminder of His sacrifice. 4) The Pro Life Committee maintains the Unborn Memorial as a symbol of His love for all life. When we as believers appreciate God s creation through our knowledge of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, it becomes even more important and meaningful to us. To remember the children who, through miscarriage, abortion or for any other medical complication, were never to be. We pray the Rosary every Wednesday evening at 7 pm at the Memorial of the Unborn in St. Joseph Cemetery (starting back at the Cemetery on June 7), to never forget God s love for all His children.
