Many thanks to "Miss Rosemary" for supervising the skating component. This is the final week for skating in physical education/health classes. When I am alone, God is there, well-known. He helps me when I m sad And calms me when I m mad. When I help people in need, It breaks away my greed. Jesus was always kind, He spoke of his mind. Being a Catholic has taught me respect; It is something I cannot reject. Jesus, Mary, and Joseph Are a perfect family focus. We are all joined as one in the faith, And with Him I always feel safe. 3 P A G E 3 Blessed to be Catholic Oh how I love being Catholic. God is always there with a smiling face. He helps me brace through the day. He knows who I am and knows who I want to be. Oh, I am so blessed to me. Being Catholic means I have someone to turn to, Even when I don t have a clue. Every time I go to mass, I think about what Jesus has done for me. That s why I kneel on one knee. I love learning about the Catholic faith. I go to mass on the eighth hour. I know I m blessed. He helped me when I was stressed. Blessed to be me Oh God, you helped me. You make me feel happy. Meredith Salesses Computer 8 EXTENDED TO MARCH 28TH MATHATHON PARTIES Thank you to all who are supporting our St. Jude's MATHATHON. This is a most wonderful way to help boys and girls at St. Jude's who are suffering with life threatening diseases. For the class that has the most participants, we will have an ice cream party at the end of the MATHATHON! For the class that raises the most money, we will have a Pizza Party! He gives me the items I want and need. He always feeds me. He gives me a great family. He gave up His one and only Son for us. His name is Jesus. He died on a cross for us Without fuss. He wanted us to have eternal life. Even though I do actions that are bad, He never gets mad. He comforts me when I am sad. God always forgives me. This is why being Catholic is it. I have to admit. Anthony Mancini Kids In Mind - is a website that enables adults to determine whether a movie is appropriate for them or their children, according to their own criteria. Unlike the MPAA, they do not assign an inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for sex/nudity, violence/gore, and profanity, on a scale of 0-10, and they explain in detail why a film rates high or low in a specific category; they also include instances of substance use, a thorough list of discussion topics that may elicit questions from children, and the message the film conveys. Since their system is based on objective standards, not the viewer s age or the a artistic merits of a film, they enable adults to determine whether a movie is appropriate for their own children. 4 Diocesan Tuition Assistance Program P A G E 4 What is the program? The Diocesan Tuition Assistance Program provides financial assistance to families in Catholic schools in the Diocese of Arlington through the Rooted in Faith~Forward in Hope Capital Campaign Endowment. It is open to all qualified students whose parents might not otherwise be able to pay the full cost of tuition. Who is eligible? Students attending or accepted by a Diocese of Arlington Catholic school (K-12). Preschool and Pre-K are not eligible. Not applicable to students of private Catholic schools associated with the Diocese and/or international students. Students who are Catholic and members of a parish in the Diocese of Arlington or military base parish. Families reside within the boundaries of the Diocese of Arlington and are registered and active members of a diocesan parish or a military base parish. How do I apply? Submit to FACTS Grant & Aid an application and all supporting tax documentation by due date. Paper applications are distributed through individual schools. Applications may also be completed electronically online at Only one application is required per family. Remit to FACTS a processing fee of $ Families seeking aid for students in BOTH ELEMENTARY AND HIGH SCHOOL should follow the high school submission date. Awards Awards are made for ONE ACADEMIC YEAR and are based on each family s demonstrated financial need. Individual schools determine the amount and the distribution of all awards for each academic year. The schools will contact families when award decisions have been made. Once these final award decisions have been made, the schools will then credit the tuition accounts of approved families. 8 PAGE 8 St. Francis of Assisi PTO News St. Francis Art Auction March 15th This year s Spring fundraising event will be on Saturday, March 15 th. Please join us for the Art Auction sponsored by the Parish. The preview hour begins at 6:30 p.m. and the auction begins at 7:30 p.m. Hors d oeuvres, dessert and beverages will also be available. Admission is $15 per person. Advanced ticket sales will occur after each mass on March 8th and March 9th. A separate flyer is found in the newsletter. Donate your Used Books during the Lenten Season The PTO is collecting book donations throughout the Lenten Season. We will send them to a Franciscan Catholic School in a low income area. Please send in your gently used books for children in grades K-8. Simply place them in a bag or box that is marked Used Book Donations and bring them to the school library. Thank you for helping us share the gift of reading with children who are in need of books. Volunteers are needed to assist the Event Coordinator, Mrs. Kik Poon. Please access the Sign Up Genius link to determine how you can help: A Volunteer form was sent home to families for the remaining PTO events this year.
